Memories of the early 70s there, Nige when I was often to be found travelling over Shap behind a pair of 50s when I worked in London and travelled up to visit my family in Ayrshire - and sometimes both 50s were actually working.
Thanks Stuart, glad it brought back memories for you as I can just imagine travelling behind a pair with the top window cracked listening to that lovely English Electric sound, cheers 👍
Thanks Lynden, yes it was pretty poor when we left home but brightened up nicely, a great sight and sound climbing Shap with the appropriate stock, cheers 👍
Great catches nige. Didn't they look and sound great? I saw them at Birmingham New Street ( Not quite as scenic?🤣🤣), on my way to the Severn Valley Railway, and another 50!😀
Superb soundtrack at Shap but I just dont get the hoover moniker because If I had owned a hoover that sounded like this I would have taken it back to the shop and I think lawnmowers would have been a more appropriate nickname.😁👍
Thanks Stephen, yes they certainly made themselves heard on the climb, apparently they got there nickname from the sound of the engine cooling fans which sounded like a hoover until they we’re refurbished which removed that sound, cheers 👍
Another lovely video nige well done great camera work as usual I am really looking forward to seeing your next video I hope you get a nice video next time also when is your next video going to be on RUclips bye for now Philip
Nige, What a great day with a fine performance from the 50s and looking good with their new paint jobs in the fine weather. Regards, John
Thanks John, the weather certainly improved from earlier in the day which was ideal to show off the new livery and they sounded great, regards nige👍
