- LNER A4 Class Locomotive 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley was the motive power for todays Settle Carlisle Fellsman railtour from Crewe via Chester to Carlisle and return running both ways over the Settle Carlisle line, we first see the Blue Streak appear after Salt Lake Cottages over the Viaduct then on to Bleak ( Blea ) Moor with twelve on and 57311 on the rear, yes it was bleak today with the severe blustery cold wind blowing then from above the Aqueduct by Blea Moor Tunnel, later we see Sir Nigel with the return climbing to Aisgill Summit again with the severe blustery wind, thanks to Steve for the crack today and the lift this morning, hope you enjoy and thanks for watching.
my 2 fave spots for watching steam. Blea moor and Ais Gill. Brilliant.
Many thanks for your lovely comment Martin, two great locations that are ideal for the long view, cheers 👍
Just wonderful - a blue A4 with a blood.and custard take 😊
Great video ' thanks again Nigel
Many thanks for your lovely comment Keith, they certainly go well together, cheers 👍
Excellent footage there Nige of Gresley, especially over Ribblehead Viaduct
Many thanks Andrew, it’s alway a pleasure to film Gresley and over the Viaduct is an ideal location, cheers 👍
Gresley once again demonstrating that perfect valve setting. And just look at that engine - not a steam leak to be seen anywhere, even when working this hard. The maintenance crew have every right to feel very proud of their work. Great filming, much appreciated.
Many thanks Derek, yes it’s great to see Sir Nigel in tip top condition thanks to the people behind the scenes who deserve all the credit and the crew for a great performance, cheers 👍
Nige, Nicely captured with SNG performing well (as usual). Regards, John
Thanks John, yes a great performance and a nice change to see a different locomotive, regards nige👍
Excellent shots Nige. Another fine performance from the A4 and her crew
Thanks Austin, yes a great performance with no assistance from the rear and we were lucky with the weather, cheers 👍
A brilliant opening shot. Four minutes and 38 seconds of superb camera work. You really are one of the best I have ever seen.
Many thanks Ballinalower for your lovely comments which are very much appreciated, you are too kind, regards nige.
Absolutely superb Nige - and in your own 'back garden' too (well sort of)....!
Excellent zoomed in footage - and ol' Batty Moss viaduct looking spectacular.
Ol' No: 7 is flying the 'LNER Flag' with pride - much more pleasing to me personally
than any of the SR 'stuff', 'she's' got more of a 'bark' too, and no excessive 'clag'!
Thanks again Nige, well for simply just being there!
Many thanks George for your lovely comments, I thought you’d like this one and I do like being in the garden 😂 although the wind was a big problem it was a lot cooler and luckily we had no rain at either location, and yes a much better sound from the streak even with the wind issues, kind regards nige👍
Wonderful sight and acoustics, brilliantly recorded as always.
Many thanks for you lovely comment Rob and glad you enjoyed watching, cheers 👍
Lovely at ribblehead nige nice weather with it nice exhaust aswell going well at aisgill nice stuff nige 😊
Thanks Graham, it was much better weather than what was forecast as we were expecting some rain, a lot cooler as well so better exhaust, cheers 👍
cracking video nige, you can’t beat a fine day up blew moor. Cheers - Angus
Many thanks for your lovely comment Angus, certainly turned out better than what was forecast although the wind was a big problem, cheers 👍
Brilliant video.Judging by the steam from the chimney it must have been a bit chilly up there today.
Many thanks Michael for your lovely comment, it certainly was on Blea Moor as I had to put my gloves on more like Bleak Moor, cheers 👍
Very nice. I do like an A4.
Thanks Alan, It’s always great to see one of Sir Nigel’s finest and a vast improvement to the usual Tangmere, cheers 👍
Excellent Nige , fantastic opening shot with Gresley in fine form . We certainly got lucky with the weather 👍👍
Thanks Steve, yes we were very lucky we got no rain but would have liked a bit more sunshine, cheers 👍
Two great locations Nige and good panning that you are so good at . Thanks Brian
Many thanks Brian that’s much appreciated, cheers nige👍
Great day for a video. I do like seeing trains in the landscape and you have got some very high quality distance videos. And i have never seen a photographer brave enough to cut the "legs" off the the Ribblehead viaduct. You got the essence and the video is great.
Many thanks wgj4813 for you lovely comments, the weather was much better than forecast so the locations were ideal for the distance shots, it’s not the first time the Viaduct has been filmed with the legs cut off as you go any higher up you lose the back shot towards the signal box, cheers 👍
Excellent footage Nige at Ribblehead, Blea Moor and Aisgill. A very good day out chasing steam over the S&C 👍
Many thanks Simon, the weather was far better than what was forecast so an ideal opportunity for these locations and the perfect locomotive, cheers 👍
Great captures throughout the day on all locations Nige, better day than expected and a nice change of loco too cheers 🎥👍
Thanks Steve, yes it was certainly better than what was forecast and great to see Sir Nigel again, cheers 👍
Picked two good locations Nige and plenty clag. Great shots all round.👍👍
Thanks David, I was originally on the other side for the viaduct shot but the sun would have been right behind the loco causing problems so swapped sides where I had full sunshine unfortunately Gresley was late and the sun had gone in but that’s the way it goes with the sun still its the better side for a distance pan shot, cheers 👍
Another great video Nige, enjoyed watching knowing that I was somewhere in one of the coaches. Looks like you were lucky with the weather on the outward leg as is was atrocious at times.
Thanks Alistair, didn’t know you were on board but you’ll have had a great journey behind Gresley I’m sure, when we set off from home it was raining but that soon cleared and never got anymore while filming so we were lucky, cheers 👍
Great video Nige
Many thanks Josh glad you enjoyed watching, cheers nige👍
Another lovely video nige well done great camera work as usual I am really looking forward to seeing your next video I hope you get a nice video next time also when is your next video going to be on RUclips bye for now Philip
Many thanks Philip and much appreciated, next one should be Saturdays Northern Belle, cheers 👍
A very decent long shot over Batty Moss Nige witht the exhaust just lifting enough to make it successful. (It seems a lonf time since I was able to climb up there!) And another fair old climb for you at Aisgill with SNG looking and sounding well in all shots. Shame about the wind but it is what it is. Take care - Chris
Thanks Chris, I was originally on the other side due to the wind direction but the sun was in the wrong position so changed sides only to lose the sun when it mattered, it’s hard work getting to some of these locations now with all the gear🥵 cheers nige👍
A perfect capture from the position I used on 30/05/1998 to capture 60532 with The Wiliton Enterprise.
Many thanks Derek, I do like this location as I’ve done it a few times before and it a very rewarding shot but is weather dependent as you know, cheers nige👍
Good video Nige :)
Many thanks Simon, cheers 👍
