Welcome to the original source of the DeBarge sound. The lead singer on this song is the oldest sibling to the group DeBarge. His name was Bobby. His brother Tommy was in Switch also. Another member of Switch was, Phillip Ingram, his brother was James Ingram; who you have reacted to also, "One Hundred Ways." The reason the group was called Switch was because during a performance they were constantly switching positions of who was singing lead and they switched up on the instruments also. Correction, Bobby was one of the lead singer's in the group Switch and the eldest brother in the Debarge family. El Debarge was the lead singer in the group Debarge. Bobby and Tommy was not apart of the group Debarge it was the younger siblings although Bobby did sing on one of their later albums he was not part of the ORIGINAL Debarge group. It was El, Bunny, Mark, Randy and James that made up the group! Bobby and Tommy Debarge will forever be known as members of Switch!

Can't believe you guys finally got around to Switch. Prior to this release, Switch sang on a similar song of Jermaine's titled "You need to be loved." Worth a listen.

Finally! Switch is one of the best groups of the late 70's early 80's. You like Falsetto well he (Bobby Debarge) has the best one in my opinion. Brother can sing. Switch were originally called White Heat, who released an album produced by Barry White. When they became Switch, Jermaine Jackson (from The Jackson 5) got the band and sibling group DeBarge record deals at Motown. Jermaine wrote & produced a few of Switch's songs and members of the group were session musicians on a couple of Jermaine's solo albums in the late 1970s.

When El said that he didn't want to sound like Bobby, the producer basically told him to consider himself lucky if he COULD. El does sound a lot like him, but Bobby had the falsetto game ON LOCK!

You can't go wrong with either Switch or DeBarge. If you are gonna stay in the Switch lane, I would definitely recommend, "I Call Your Name". That is probably their best song, although I have other favs. I think its their signature sound. If you ever get back in the DeBarge lane, would love to hear what you both think of "Love Me In A Special Way". The only other DeBarge member was Tommy DeBarge. Eldridge DeBarge was never in that band.

Well well, it’s about time. This group was discovered by Jermaine Jackson and featured two older brothers of the group Debarge; Bobby and Tommy and James Ingram’s little brother Phillip. SWITCH had several hits; I Wanna Be Closer, I Call Your Name, Love You Over and Over, My Friend In The Sky.
Next Switch songs y'all react to should be 'Love Over And Over Again' and 'I Call Your Name'.
You all have to react to their song “I Wanna Be Closer”, the live version at the Rock Concert. You won’t regret it.

Man... Since the days of the colorful brick in your background, I asked for this group. Please check out the 1978 live video, I Call Your Name. Then, check out, I Want To Be Closer, live video. Seeing them makes it better. I got sick and almost missed it. 3 days late.
This made my evening! I love this group. You should listen to the song I wanna be closer; just seeing the video and how they are in their element is awesome. Also, the song "I Call Your Name" is my all time favorite. You will love the falsetto in those songs; just off the charts.
The group was named Switch, because all the members could sing lead. They would switch lead singers. Two of members were Bobby & Tommy DeBarge, older brothers of singing group DeBarge. Another member was Phillip Ingram, younger brother of James Ingram.
They would also switch the instruments they played.
I read because the band members play multiple instruments and they'd often switch instruments..

Before El DeBarge from the group DeBarge, that beautiful falsetto you are listening to is his older brother Bobby DeBarge. Switch had Bobby and Tommy DeBarge DeBarge (their older brothers). Also on lead was Phillip Ingram (brother of r&b singer James Ingram (..100 ways) one of his many hits. Please check out Switch "I Call Your Name" and my personal favorite " I Wanna Be Closer".
The name Switch came from their versatility. The group were able to switch lead singers, as well as many of the band members could switch playing different instruments. Good job guys
