    Great content brother. Thank you for the advice. I’m looking to get in within the next month. I found something super reliable but it’s really old a 97. I absolutely am terrified to buy equipment that I can’t make money with because of something so trivial as age

    I'm old school back of th yards neighborhood and I agree with u older used is better. In regards to due diligence your correct u have to do it. On mechanically inclined if you do your homework you can make a list of all the things to check 4 and bring a little tool bag with what you need to use to test with and u could bypass the cost of bringing a mechanic. Overall great video Thanks!!!

      With older trucks is it true most companies not going to take a chance on you or give you loads because your truck is below a 2016???

    • @markthementor
      @markthementor  8 месяцев назад

      @@dboog225 some won’t. I wouldn’t say most. I’ve been doing this since 2010. My trucks are from the mid 2000s. It all depends on the 3pl. California is tough and I believe your truck has to be 2016 there. The only other restrictions I’ve come across outside of California was your truck couldn’t be older than 15 years. Other companies don’t care as long as you pickup and drop off in time.

    Mark, great content. Please speak to the issue of companies requiring trucks to be newer before they contract an owner/operator. On the front end, you do save money starting out, but you will encounter other issues. Have you run into these issues?

    • @markthementor
      @markthementor  5 месяцев назад +1

      I didn’t personally run into these issues but carriers now are running into these issues because of the lack of preventative maintenance. Therefore companies want newer or more late model vehicles.

      Hello. Thanks for watching. My trucks came from a used truck dealer who purchased at the Budget auctions. GMC G3500 (16Ft) Vortec and GMC C7500 (24/26) Caterpillar C7/Allison had 1 that had a Duramax. Also had 1 E350 that I sold (16Ft) had a Triton.

    I have the perspective from working on a fleet of box trucks and before that working transporting vehicles. If I were going to enter the space with the knowledge and skills I have I would buy new. New what? F650 26ft with liftgate with a gasoline power plant. Yelling at the screen commence!
    You good? Now for why.
    1. A $600 obd scanner can help diagnose any problems. No proprietary programs needed.
    2. The PM can be performed behind any auto parts store 8 quarts of oil and a S2 filter and grease gun $40 and an hour out of my life. ( if you are not in your truck get under it)
    3. Ford dealers and mechanics are available everywhere, diesel mechanics not so much (especially when it comes to proprietary diagnostic programs)
    4. It will never de-rate or suffer an emissions related repair.(unless converter is stolen)
    5. Never have the fuel tank dipped or entry barred for emissions.
    6. Fuel is 25% less expensive (savings offset by lower mpg compared to diesel).
    7. EGR and exhaust are not prone to clogging from idling.
    8. No turbo to fail
    Yes they do get 6 mpg compared to 10 mpg for a diesel but between the 25% cost difference of diesel and gas and the ability to PM (and repair) the truck myself the cost is offset. A over cab wind deflector may squeeze a little better mpg.
    Something I learned along the way, trade in your truck at 150-200k while it still has value and you can take advantage of the new equipment tax write offs. Have truck payments or repair payments, try not to have both.
    YMMV

    Hey Mark! Quick questions.
    Other than your MC/USDOT number, do you need any other licenses/certifications for your cargo van business?

    • @markthementor
      @markthementor  Год назад +1

      Hello. Depending on what state your in, you may need a state number if their is local regulation. For instance, if your in Illinois you will also need an ICC number. Check your state to see if additional local permits are required.

    Do I have to have a minimum year age on my vehicle to get loads or find work?? Will I not get loads or app work if my van/truck/sprinter is too old?
    Thanks really like your channel, appreciate it !

    • @markthementor
      @markthementor  10 месяцев назад +2

      Hello. That all depends on the company/3PL or the app. Some companies do have a year restriction on the age of the vehicle, some do not. You would have to inquire with each company or app.
