    I really like how you 'dial-in' in specifics... I use DaVinCi for my editing and video creation.... so this is important to me. But I also use CPU (almost) entirely for my initial 3D processing which might be 5 to 10 minutes per frame running 24/7 on two 5950x machines. And yes, I thought of Threadripper and would so love to have one! But my 32 cores cost less than a Threadripper system.
    But I wonder if the Intel would do my 3D processing faster?
    Still..... with 5950x I suppose it'll be a couple years before I am serious about upgrading again.
    Thanks for your dedication to creators!

    • @theTechNotice
      @theTechNotice  2 года назад +2

      Even if the 12900k is faster for your 3d, I don't think it's worth the upgrade since you're running a very high end system.

    • @ambientnaturally
      @ambientnaturally 2 года назад

      @@theTechNotice yes... the 5950x is so amazingly fast! So strong! I can edit or render with DaVinCi while I have two processes of my 3D art processing AND have a few windows of browser that stays open so I can take a break and watch videos or news.... and when I restart every week or so the RGB doesn't even flash! The fans don't stop! The only indication it's restarting is the POST screen!
      And yes.. YOU are one of the people that convinced me to get 3900x two years ago, and the 5950x which you recommended was a good idea also.
      And yeah.... any upgrade now will be small and VERY expensive with new MoBo. I think I can wait-it-out for a couple of years and then upgrade to the new generation once it's all rolled out, reviews made by you and a few others.....
      Honestly though, the amount of good you and others do to help us winnow down our choices to what is the best 'bang for buck' is seriously awesome. Both my systems work so well and are so well-matched (except for the one old GPU I have to make-do with in one machine, LOL). That might be solved later this year. One GPU is all I need to use DaVinCi.

    for me i had a x370 premium board ... upgraded from first gen to Rzyen 5xxx and got a 5900 for 230$ used

    depending on use case and budget and platform u have Inte is not always the best choise :)

    Great explanation 👍 A short video on the bios would be very helpful for everyone. My rebuild features 12700k w gtx1070 and ASUS z690 mobo. The bios turned OFF the iGPU on the 12700k. I had to turn it ON. Back in Win10 it was disabled due to wrong driver until somehow the Intel software was auto installed. Butter smooth h265 10b 422 playback.
    Side note: the K version was only $20 more sooooo get the K folks. (& not the KF)
    Another note: there is very little editing difference between the 12700k and 12900k so if you want to save a little go i7k.

    Whenever I turn on Quicksync, Davinci does improve the playback of h265 422 10bit, however I also find my davinci resolve to becoming more unstable and prone to crashing. Everything up to date, clean install of windows, Davinci Resolve 18.0.4. This is with Intel i5 12600, nvidia 1060 gtx 6gb, 24gb ddr4. Im hoping its the the dGPU that cant keep up with caching the frames or whatever, causing the issues and not some other configuration, since when i disable quicksync, davinci doesnt crash anymore, but playback is unbearable.

      10-bit 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 seems unsupported even on RX 7900 XTX. While HEVC 4:2:2 is also absent on RTX 3000 and 4000 series, it's hard to say it "beefed". HEVC 10-bit 4:2:2 is available on Apple silicon since A11 Bionic on iPhone 8 (2017). And yes, even LumaFusion on iPhone 8 is still faster than any software on AMD system if you project is just a combination of trimmed 4K HEVC 4:2:2 source clips.

    Question: You are using Davinci Resolve Studio, so not the free version. My question is, is it possible to use both the Intel iGPU + dGPU? Because I thought this counts as multi GPU set up, which is only supported in the paid version of Resolve.
    PS. I am someone waiting for dGPU's getting cheaper, so in the mean time I am using my 12700K with only the iGPU (overclocked to 2200mhz). Which is still not enough for colorgrading, but doable.

    • @DesertCookie
      @DesertCookie Год назад +1

      You can use both GPUs for decoding. For example, the iGPU will decode the H.265 10bit 4:2:2 clip the dGPU doesn't support but the dGPU will handle the device of the next clip. Resolve still doesn't really support hardware accelerated effects (color grading) on multiple GPUs and mainly benefits from a single more powerful GPU.
      The case for an Intel iGPU also is that is higher quality for rendering than NVENC.

      @@EugeniaLoli The one you specified in settings (or the one automatically chosen by Resolve which in theory should always be the more powerful but you never know...). I think you have to options in the settings: GPU for processing which is a drop down and GPUs for encoding/decoding which is a checkbox list, allowing you to select all your GPUs (my laptop has both its 3060 and UHD 750 checked and thus can use the codecs supported by both).

Navidia 30 series GPUs do support 8 bit 4:2:0 in H.264 and both 8 bit and 10 bit 4:2:0 in H.265 - these are the most popular formats for most video creators using RUclips. Furthermore, Puget Systems has showed that, while using DDR4 ram, the 5950x has a better 4k media score in Davinci Resolve (and an almost identical overall score for Resolve).

    • @theTechNotice

      Yes that's true, also the Pugetbench for DR doesn't use a lot of h.265 codecs in the benchmark. Yet if you use h.265 codecs, then Intel would be the better pick.

This program made automatically proxy media at about 540p at 10 Mbit/s in H264 wich almost all GPUs can decode very fast. Davinci can this too but its a little bit more complicted. If you install Davinci there is an expra program called Blackmagic Proxy Generator lite. This program exactly does it after making the proxies you can load the video files into your project. After that you can cut videos even on a low end system.

    Hi, I am building an itx, msi z690i, zx-1 water cooling case. I plan to get the RTX 3060 as I had learned from your lesson that it can do 4k and is affordable compared to other spiked GPU models. My thinking is also when the GPU price is reasonable in the future and when it's appropriate to upgrade the GPU, I can still do it. However, I Iean towards the 12900K to future proof, my concern from your video is that it seems to imply that 12900k is going to run hotter than 12600k by default even if they are performing the same task; eg. excel etc, is that true? Or can I clock down for normal task so that it normalise with the 12600K for a normal task? And unlock OC for the video editing work. Would really appreciate your input, I am at this last yard on the chip to pull the trigger :). Your channel has been an inspiration :) Thank you :) Hope to hear your feedback soon.

    • @koningslakkie2498
      @koningslakkie2498 2 года назад +1

      No, it is not going to run hot substancially for less demanding tasks because those tasks wont use 100% of your i9 CPU. When clockspeeds are equal wattage is mainly dependend on the load. Ofcourse because you have more core's on the i9, it will be slightly more hotter, but those cores will be at idle. You don't need to have different "overclock" settings for different applications. As an example your excel will use 15% on a i5, and 10% on a i9, but still don't worry about the simple tasks.
      That being said, you could overclock (+overvolting) it to 110%, but only if you use the full 110%, it will get really hot. On the other hand you could undervolt it to have the same performance with lower power. Or you could both lower performance AND lower the voltage for even more decreased temperature. Also you have things like PL1 power and PL1 tau (look it up), which you can control you sustained 100% usage of your CPU.

The mounting system bends the CPU and PCB. I am not buying a new motherboard and CPU just to also fix it even though the washer mod is great but the backplate is too soft for this sockeet. Homeboy, honestly, i really do like this channel, i subbed to TN before GN, JTC, Linus, or anyone else...BUT this shit's getting old really fast. Can we be more creative than to produce the same boring advertisements for a cpu we all know will pale compared to the upcoming Ryzen? ...or maybe it doesn't; but how about actually making NEW videos, nobody needs weekly reminders that the 12900k is better than a kick n the teeth and will do "good enough" if u dont have any damned $. Hell, i've actually been editing n Resolve 17 on an old laptop with an i7-5500U & 6gb ram. Resolve opens to a window telling me to upgrade my graphics driver. I've rendered a few, it technically can produce something. If it weren't integrated, i could at least upgrade it. I dont mean to insinuate that would make this 8yr old laptop fly to mars, i just mean upgradability is important and it's never possible with IGPU. Ur pushin these things like an igpu is actually advisable; when, in fact, anybody who knows computers and needs performance is smh everytime u do this. I get that it's an alternative to spending for a gpu; but so is waiting for gpu prices to come down. This is all advertising, ANY latest new CPU should do well, but that doesnt mean it'sgonna be good n 2mo when the competition smokes it, lol...and with igpu, u dont just upgrade without replacing for big $. theres no such thing as a "budget" creators pc, there isn't even supposed to be, even communists know better, lol- its like buying a $30k Benz, u pay $30k for the symbol, a real Benz is f'n expensive, even under egalitarian rule! Video editing is among the most intensive processing most ppl will do, ur not supposed to get that for "budget" prices.
    Can we go back to some new content? I'm not trying to be a dick, I really like this channel. I have a fractal torrent on my table rn because of ur black ProArt build; except i went white because i like the AERO G board, Gigabyte fanboy...i wish like Hades those videos had swapped configs, lol. Anyway, yea, i like the channel, i like the homie, i want u to keep on with it; but 8 videos simpin for the new Intel cpu, after Intel has been holding up the rear on performance ratings for a cpl few years now? No, nobody wants to just only be sold things; we get it, they paid u to like the 12900K. How about some cooler testing videos? Better yet, why not do a deep dive on the specific components our fave manufacturers use to produce motherboards? Idk, gotta do somethin, this is getting old fast, there's no reason to run the fans away when u need them most.

      Thanks for your comment mate!
      Some things to clarify here. Nobody is paying be a single dollar to like a certain brand/component, that YT channel would sink real fast. Not sure if you know how all this RUclips business works, but the manufacturer(s) ask if you wanna review x product and then you have a choice whether to accept the product and make videos about it. Not sure if you were around last year, but I kept recommending AMD like crazy coz it was the best. This year-tables have turned.
      Secondly, you seem like an educated guy, but if you'd be reading the comments of all the videos know the channel you can see that there are a lot of people who don't know this and are wondering which should they go for. My goal with this channel is to educate Creators and help them choose the best tool for their workflow & budget. And I feel really passionate about that since I have seen a lot of bad advice given out there by other people, which just makes me sad to think that 'dang' all those people could've got so much more performance for their money if they'd only known (x) this.
      Thanks for sticking around with this channel. Just a suggestion why not help out on the comments and reply to those people who are asking exactly those questions mentioned in this video? 😉😇
