Been wanting a video like this for ages! Thanks!
I love the makeshift boxes for the intel chips lol. Well done on the video, its just what i needed.
Recently discovered your channel and happy that you are Britain based. Some channels advertise or talk about parts not available in the UK.
You are amazing!! We love you keep up the great work. We also need people like you in the pc community!!
Found this video trying to figure out how to build my first pc... I like this guy.. I don't know what the heck he was telling me a lot of the time but I guess I have rabbit hole to go down now.. see you in other videos my good sir.
I'm planning my first build thanks to the information in your videos, I was completely clueless and relying on pre built before I found your channel
some Prebuilts arebuilt by known companies like hp , do you think its a good option , i mean we cant build like they do
The videos are always educational and entertaining at the same time. Thank you! 🙏
Very helpful information! Thank you.
wow this video was so helpful I'm taking notes and I will be saving up.
This is the best demonstration video of CPU - GPU combos I've seen. Now I only have to look at a Graphics Card upgrade.
I think you should have included the 1% lows as the difference can be more apparent. Still a great review!
Right on. Thanks for sharing.
Love your videos and I was literally looking for this wow
Actually quite a useful video, well done
Glad to have discord alerts now : D
I needed this thanks!
thanks for doing all these videos!
Great video, Actually quite a useful video :)
Thanks for a great video! Time for a new gaming build and a round of what parts to start with!..........Where is your floofy kitty/supervisor?
You’re a legend, thanks mate. Top man
I think you picked some good titles to test, and I have no idea what else I'd suggest, but it would be cool to see more titles with the 5600x & 12400F. It would also be super cool to see a sequel to this video where you try to find the specific GPU that matches best (lowest bottleneck between CPU & GPU). It would make a great foundational suggestion for a team blue or red build for someone who is just looking for the most solid build without breaking the bank for performance they won't even see.
I think some videos already explained this pretty well. For 1080p, 5600/x or 12400/f, and a RX 6600. For 1440p, 6700XT and 3070 (same cpus). I think HUB and GN did some pretty good videos on those two topics previously. Specifically Hardware Unboxed did a video showing the best bang for buck performance out of a-lot of the current GPUs.

awesome videos mate
I have an Alienware from a year and a half ago. I have a Ryzen 3950X, 32 GB Memory and the Nvidia 2800 TI. I really enjoy the PC for both surfing the web and also gaming.
Fantastic as always but would really love to see Microsoft Flight Sim included in the games in future. Please 🙏😜

Thanks so much for making this video, I’m just about to order parts for my first build in over 12 years! And I really want a 60fps 4K machine on my lounge tv as a console alternative, and I’ve been scratching my head when others keep recommending ultra high end CPU’s 12900k etc if you’re buying a 3080ti or 6900xt, which didn’t seem right to me when I’m just gaming (with nothing else happening on the system) @ 4K with max settings, and now you’ve proved it! My 12400 is officially locked in.
is that i5? I’ve been hearing the same thing but I figured a 3080 could run pretty well w an i5
@@modifiedlandfish well I can happily report that I’m hitting my targeted 60fps with ultra everything’s rtx on etc with everything I’ve thrown at it so far! :-)

This video (combined with some of your other videos) has really helped me when I'm now considering getting a new PC (mainly for MMOs like WoW and FFXIV, but probably other games like Cyberpunk 2077 an photo editing). I'm still rocking an 11 year old i7 2600. (Yeah, you heard me, I said 2600, not 12600!) Looks like I'll be going for something like an i5 12600K, to have just a little bit of room to grow.
pc old as yours when u upgrade cpu you gotta buy a board, then hopefully your psu isnt shit cause thall have to go too. also, hopefully your cooler is good enough to cool your new beast, next thing you know 1200+ gone LOL
Updates?
Yes, what did you go for in the end?
Really wish you included the 12600k as in most tests I’ve seen it doesn’t perform much less than the 12700k but it goes for about $100 less
Its not worth it at all you can upgrade you gpu with that money

I love your dad style jokes! Keep up the great work this is an amazing video for a first time builder - still waiting for prices to get back to normal - so this information is great for me!
just build my first PC last week for my specs I went with
Radeon RX 6600 XT
Intel Core i5-12400
GIGABYTE B660M DS3H DDR4
I think I did good with the CPU i went with
Very nice 👍

bad mobo thou
@@juanme555 I agree
If you can return your mobo I would switch to an asus z series motherboard. I just switched to a z590 (msi but it was the only brand I could get the same day as everything else) with a 11600k and Radeon 6700xt. My point though is that z series is best for overclocking and xmp.
I have to say, you and Karl are bouncing off of each other perfectly here. haha
Interesting because as a consumer do you want the BEST gaming CPU or the best dollars to performance? Future proof vs value? I love these kinds of videos. I'm building a new PC right now and I went with the i7-12700k since it seemed like the best cost to performance for my setup with an RTX 3080 FE.
That's what I'd pair with it for sure
What mother board did you go with?
@@199isabeast My plan is to try and future proof this system a bit in hopes of scoring an RTX 40 series card within a year of release (fingers crossed). Then I'm going to take the 3080 out and move it to my other PC. That being the case, I went all in on DDR5 with CORSAIR Vengeance 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 5200 RAM, and an ASUS ROG Strix Z690-F mobo.
@@PcCentric 12900ks
Depends on how many dollars you have
I am still rocking with the ryzen 5 3600 it works very well with my Rx 6600xt but maybe need to upgrade soon when I get a new Gpu love your vids and keep up the good work 👌
Nah..itl be fine for a while
Very good, really good style.
This is a great channel. Definitely take the dude's advice.
"Why no 12900KS or 5800X3D?!"
These are terrible value for gaming, and I wouldn't brand those as "gaming CPUs" - they are for people that want to splash the cash and buy the most powerful, regardless of value. Don't buy into the marketing that those are for "gaming", they are for "unlimited budget, fastest gaming!" - which IMO is not the same thing! The benchmarks back this up 💪
am curious why you decided to not pick i5 12600k, since it is one of the most budget friendly high performance cpu's out there, could just be me tho.
also Greta would be mad if you promoted a gaming CPU that needs 180W at full load...(12900KS)
but isn't 5800x3d and i7 12700k almost cost the same ?
But the 5800X3D is nearly the same price as 12700k and is compatible with much cheaper Mobo's... You don't need to "splash cash" and you can compete with a 12900K
@@murffly that is right, also the only purpose of the 5800X3D is gaming, in everything else its a little bit worse then the 5800X
I have recently finished my build in no small part with the reccomendations from this channel and it has been working wonderfully.
Found a nearly MSRP 3070 and coupled it with an i5 12400f which is more than enough as i play on a 2K monitor and have no intentions to go 4k anytime soon.
It was a big upgrade from my frankenstein build made with a DELL OPTIPLEX and a 750ti, which carried my gaming for the last 7 years, until i was able to get a better job.
To be fair, even if at 1080p and at low/med graphics, the 750ti was still able to run the majority of games up to 2021 at around 45 to 65fps.
Nothing to write home about, but for a tiny buget card from 2014 it was quite the feat.
But i am loving what i can do and how pretty everything looks now.
It's a good setup and you should be proud of it... It's your baby 😋
Nice one
750TI was mine for many years but I change recently for RX6600XT because play on 750TI today for 3D games begin to be hard ... 900P60 in med/high option was for me the best option with 750TI but there are some games I can't run like Halo Infinite etc ... But yes, for a great majority of games, all little indie games etc the 750TI is just perfect and I will rebuild an old PC with it for sure ! (a I3 2120 with 8Go of DDR3 and the GTX750TI ! It's perfect for emulator and all little games / indies games and some 3D games !).
@Starlit Remembrance nice build. I'm not quite there yet. One question for my understanding: Shouldn't it be easier for the CPU if you changed from 2K to 4K? 4K would be more stressfull for the GPU, resulting in less FPS. Less FPS in return should be easier for the CPU. Is there something I did not think about? I'm about to change to PC gaming, so right now I'm trying to educate myself as much as possible.
Should i go with ryzen 5 5600x or i5 12400f with 3070 ti ?
Thank you Karl!
good advice and have started to look for your uploads that says loads as im twice your age and bn building for 30 yrs there abouts
I’m so grateful for these videos. Every day someone at work gives me absolute bull info about nvidia/intel/amd etc. a 2 min scan through these videos stop me from wasting 1000s on their advice. I’m just going to assume they’re wrong from now on.
I would recommend the next time to play a match instead of being in a custom lobby without any other players in it when you test competative games. There's a huge difference in dps between having 1 and 10 players in a game.
In Valorant Realisitic numbers for the 5600x are 440 fps and 290 fps for the 12100f in unrated/ranked. Both are good numbers but it's a pretty big difference compared to 549 fps respectively 464 fps in the shart at 15:30 in the video. Considering that the platform cost between the i3 and the R5 processor could be similar, it's a huge reason to buy a 5600x/5600 if you're mainly planning on playing Valorant.
Building my first ever PC tomorrow, have a Ryzen 5 5600X and an RTX 3060, hoping for good outcomes!
Exactly what I wanted to hear. Looking to build a pure gaming PC in the near future, and always get frustrated when I see other reviewers say you have to pair anything north of a 3080 with an i7 or more, when clearly it's not necessary (if only gaming). Thanks!

Good luck on getting them, there is a very high chance we'll see the same scalping issues with the 40xx as we saw when the 30xx cards released. Just go with the 12700K/3080 combo as 99% of games still don't use the full power of either of those.

12:55 actually it is a bit how it works if your motherboard cant deliver enugh power because of thermal throttling it can be a bottleneck but its rare
I love that you are talking so fast I can concentrate way better on what you are saying
I got the i9 with a 3090 strix building this weekend.
I think the reason for the difference in FPS for Valorant is due to the cache size difference between zen 3 and 12th gen, zen 3 has more cache

“I no longer have the skills to pay the bills” classic got my follow 💯🤣
Just got to 7:48 and realized, you cold have used msi after burner overlay to show cpu/gpu percent utilizaton. As well as show clocks and temps so if something is thermal throttling you can know because that test is invalid as your cooling limited not cpu or even gpu limited.
Chill video still though, just some constructive criticism.

then my gpu since I’m going to be needing it for more cpu intensive programs like autocad etc and sticking with intel since I was told it works better with adobe programs
TLDR: Intel i5-12600k or AMD 5800X3G is the best CPU for gaming when considering performance, features, L3 cache, and cost.
Think 5600x and 12400f are so close. If you’re on AM4 already I’d get 5600x. I went 12400f for new build as its newer supports both ddr4 and 5 and is has nice upgrade path think it’s best midrange option
sitting with a i7 9700 (non K) and 3060ti the bottle neck is brutal so this helps alot !
Nice!! Im building my first pc and i went with the i5-12600k and bought a radeon 6900 XT for pretty cheap as an open box from Micro Center. Kind of overkill i guess but judging from the video… all the results were pretty damn similar. Should i still upgrade my cpu?
No
What are you upgrading? You stated you already went with i5-12600k which is better than all these CPUs listed here. So why would you buy something worse if you already spent the money on the 12600k?
Amazing
For me the value proposition is altered by the fact that I was able to upgrade my cpu twice on the same am4 motherboard. I've been using a 5600x for a few months now and I'm not disappointed by the performance. Paired with an rtx 3070 ti I had no problems getting at least 60 fps at 4k in most games I've tried.
What did you have previously
@@donutmike I was using a 3600x, which I moved over to my htpc paired with a gtx 980ti. The performance difference on the cpu side at 4k is not much, but upgrading 2 machines at the same time is nice.
@@patrickmcgovern4004 I have a 3600, it still works great, but with how much improvement ryzen gets each generation compared to Intel, I'm sticking with amd and I will likely get a ryzen 7000 cpu when they launch.
@@alloftheabove8522 me too, especially if they end up making ryzen 7000 skus that are am4 like I've seen them speculating about in some articles I've read. That being said if I do have to go with a new motherboard I'll probably consider going Intel if the price/ performance is significantly better.
This is the only thing I am really stuck with, I am building a Gaming PC and have an MSI 550 Tomahawk board, 3070 Founders Edition CPU....and really can't get my head around which Ryzen processor I need at all. It's driving me mad! Didn't want a massive cooler in the build really either but obviously if that is required....
Purely gaming, any strategy action role-playing large battles might use more faster cores. Do want to use it for music production, science projects, photo video editing. if so you want more than 16GB ram and larger drive storage NVMe, SSD for files.
5600x would suffice
5600x is on a massive sale everywhere rn, you can get it for 200$ us on Amazon, or go for the 5600 non x if gaming. I have had no bottlenecks with a 6800xt at 1080p, beast of a CPU.
