An excellent video covering all the important tips for success that only someone who has experience can tell you. Thank you so much. Along with the brands how to video I’m now confident that I can do this job with good results. Bit worried about those pesky weed roots and seeds though so I’m glad you highlighted this as I’ll now take more time over the prep. So far I’ve just I pressure washed out all the old dirt and grout on one patio. Work in progress.
Super helpful video. The fence panel tip was inspired, worked much better than the grouting tool. I did 25 m2 of raj blend (4 different sizes) and used 2 boxes exactly. Thanks again for the vid
I have mistake 2 1:05 that all the weeds with its root deep down into joint were not removed thoroughly. A month later, clover weed burst out from the pointing. 😢 Now I realized I should use weed killer and let the weed die completely before repointing sika fastfix. Other youtube vidoes only tell you how to do it, and yours are great to tell how to do it successfully.
Great video, thanks for taking the time to put this out there and help others like me who are about to give this Sika stuff a go on my newly laid Indian stone...
Used a product made by Marshalls which seems to work on the same principle. Applied the product in ideal weather conditions which was a damp overcast day with some drizzle. The stuff I used definitely had some sort of resin mixed in with it so clean your tools well afterwards. Also watch out for surfaces you don't want grouting. Once set I noticed it was porous but so far no sign of any frost damage and it seems to be quite durable. It's not a cheap option but I would have been able to pick out the original "expert applied" sand and cement grouting with a teaspoon.
I used this stuff and followed similar instructions - worked great. The only thing I found different is that it took a lot longer to go off and harden. I had to leave it a week or so. At one point I didn't think it would go off but it did and it has lasted really well.
Brilliant how to video. One of those jobs I’ll get round to eventually. 4.21 …appears your garden chair felt redundant ! On a serious note..great video
We moved in a while back, patio laid by previous owners, only had sand between, so after a few pressure washes, there's nothing left and weeds grown constantly between. We've bought this stuff, but there between 3 and 0mm between slabs, will this still work?
It’s all about whether you’ll be able to properly compact it down. If your gaps are non existent in some areas then you likely won’t be able to compact it and should look to use something else. Good luck!
Hi, the gaps between my patio slabs are way deeper than 20mm in some places… up to about 50 or 60mm. I’m guessing I can still use Fastfix but it’s going to be expensive to be filling it that deep! Is there anything else I can pre-fill any deep gaps with that’s suitable for the Fastfix to sit on top of? Sand maybe? Soil?
100% Don't fill them with soil. I don't think there is anything that Fastfix will 'sign off' as a good idea other than their grout to be honest with you!
Great video. Do you have a tip how to clean the stains off the paving. I used the charcoal colour and have black stains. I’m thinking of using a product called ‘Wet & Forget’.
I haven't used anything for this so nothing to recommend unfortunately. If it's of any comfort I had one slab stained becuase it wasn't wet enough and 1 year later it's dissapeared.
Do you think the 20 mm depth is really important? I'm clearing out my old grout of sand and cement I've done it all to about 10mm then seen it needs to be 20mm I can't see why it would be a problem if its packed down
I mean my gut says "You'll probs be fine" - but manufacturers tend to say these things for a reason, usually because that's what they've tested and know works.
Is this stuff hard enough to hold slabs in place that rock slightly with the existing cracked grout? I'm hoping to avoid lifting and relaying them all if possible!
It will for a while but the realand lasting way is to lift and relay just the wonky slabs. The grout is not there to stop the slabs shifting, it is to give a pleasing finish and to help prevent weeds and moss infesting your cracks.
Another tip to add, this type of grout needs to be use on a slab that’s laid of a permeable base, ie not a concrete slab, because it will let water through which needs to be able to drain.
I'll be jetwashing mine soon and will likley be making a video on it. I've read reviews from people claiming that it comes out with a jetwash so I'm am keen to find out for myself.
Great video, thank you. Would you recommend this product to be used just to repair the area where the grout has gone in an old patio and top up where needed? Many thanks
@@sumeraybuilds I was a bit disappointed by it. I thought it was going to become very hard but it's not rock solid like cement. I think this is decent to fill the gaps underneath but you still need to use cement on top or probably should just use the 2nd one. At least in my case...
Yep, this stuff is great. I've stopped penny pinching because nothing is cheap anymore. Yes, I could've saved myself £100 by just using the good old dry cement and sand mix which you wet after, but compared to the total price of the patio it really isn't a biggy. Plus, the finish with this is so much better, especially since there's a few colours to choose from and I'm expecting this to last a lot longer.
No matter how compact it, it never really sets hard. It’s good enough and really quick but after a year, mine has not set hard. Also, don’t use a jet wash on it. It will force it out.
I bought this on my first attempt at repointing our patio as I was nervous about mixing my own mortar. After a winter it has all cracked and looked terrible. I’d just used it on the brick edging. I then did the whole patio mixing my own mortar in a 3:1 ratio. This lasted the winter perfectly and is a much cheaper and better way to do things. Would not buy Sika again.
Great video, my patio is 3 years old and the people that did it did not compact the resin. I need to re do it. When you are compacting do you put the stuff that comes out back in and recompact ? Also, what do you do with the stuff left all over the slabs ? Thanks dude
No I wouldn’t reuse the old resin from 3 years ago. I’d take out all of the old stuff and then redo it in the areas that need it. Anything left over gets brushed off and thrown away. Good luck!
Top tip - if you have part of bag left over at the end pour into the tub and cover fully with water with at least an inch of water on top so the sand resin does not go off and can be used months later for re-pointing if needed which it will 👍
as a builder myself i would say he has a few points correct but as for compacting down ther compound isnt a good idea as its designed to be highly porous! as you can see in the video the patio is at a lower level than the grass so natural drainage is at its lowest advantage. to you would need a better natural drqainage solution thats why there are builders and diy people. good builders will take into account these issues and work to suit. it also depends on what sub base is laid. also the natural run off. the natural levels all around the patio. so what im saying is each job is different from ther next and will need a tweak with its sourandings and installations of each material. so this video will only work for a handfull of you and not for everyone. i cant explain it any more as it will be 5 pages long.
@Philip5478 many things are designed a way but not used in the intended way. I've done over 300 patios and the pours side of the product it greatly reduced if compacted. It works 100x better if installed completely drenched and joints filled with water. The joints will be full of compound. The product stays pours as intended. If you install the compound just damp it won't have the same strengh. If your patio is surrounded with retaining connrete or edging etc with little run off and natural drainage around then your be gratefull of my knowledge as I'm 100000% right!! Knowledge is key!
I've used this stuff and it has great drainage capacity when compacted. It also comes out if you don't as pretty much anyone who's has used it will confirm. It also says to thoroughly Wet in the instructions bud.... My patio is all of these things and guess what, my drainage through this after being compacted is great. I also don't see why you would use this as a professional, it's great for diy but there are better and more efficient products for somebody laying a lot of patios.
Has anyone had any issues with a strange smell once it’s been laid. When laying this I never had any issues with smell but after it started to cure it produced a strong chemically smell which 4 days after laying in 20 plus sun so fully cured it still has a strong strange smell.
Just buy joint it simple its about the same cost but is a good 20kg tub is basically the same . Also don't wash your patio with beech or let your do piss on the patio this will breakdown the resin compound and it will crumble was told this by silka directly
Used it in my parents garden. It lasted a year before turning black and sinking in places. Re did it and year later it was back to being black and looking like 💩
Great for “all right on the night” and DIY but for a professional job you should avoid at all costs. Sand & cement, if done correctly with additives will by far outlast this crap and cost a fraction of the price.
I’ve recently done another patio and went sand and cement, mainly to save money and the brown colour suited the slabs. But this has nearly been down a year and they’re still holding up very well!

About to set out to do this job and SO PLEASED! i came across this. Many Thanks for your experience and guidance
Best of luck! 🤞

Great tips thanks. I wasn't expecting so many splinters from this even through my gloves! Happy with the results 👍
Glad to help

Thanks for the info, Mine has been down 12 hours & still not set, but i'm in Scotland so looks like it may take 2 to 3 days to go off 🥶 🤣
Yes I’d give it a few days!

Yeah I agree this stuff is better than sand and cement, but certainly more expensive!
I have a patio with steps (not unusual). Can you apply this vertically in the riser joints?
I'm honestly not sure, I would think so but suggest checking with the manufacture

Yes it's really depeant on weather conditions and temp.
Should used viagra
Good advice for anybody well done
Thanks man 🙏
Loved the video it was very thorough. Although I did manage to get it from a local well known supplier free delivery and
cost £31.99
Glad it was helpful! And very nice!
Absolutely brilliant video....I am so glad I watched this before I did my own patio. Thank you so much for the advice.
Glad it was helpful!
Top notch info. You are a natural.....👍
I appreciate that! 🙏
Great help🎉
Glad to hear it!
thank you
You're welcome
Great video, been doing all the prep work today, light rain tomorrow of course think it’s ok to do during light rain and it won’t impact the curing?
Yeah you'll be fine, will just take an extra day to cure if it's a decent downpour. Good luck with it!
Thank you for all your advice
No worries!
Ask advise from a professional not an enthusiast amateur

How would it hold up to future power washing the patio ?
Haven't done it yet, but if installed properly it should hold up well (according to the manufacturer)
@pete.i7057 thanks. Guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and do it the hard way!
I agree with Pete :D
Another tip to add, this type of grout needs to be use on a slab that’s laid of a permeable base, ie not a concrete slab, because it will let water through which needs to be able to drain.
Great point!
Yep, good point and another reason why I love this stuff, because it helps keeps the patio free from standing water
I have residual marks from the expoxy resin , any quick way to get it off ? 😅 ,I have 2 types of tiles , the rough texture tiles are the issue.
I've not done it before, but I'd expect white spirit and a scrub would remove it. Although, worth doing it on a scrap peice first!
Once this job is done, using the tips you gave in the video, will it be safe to power wash the slabs? Or will the compound come out?
I'll be jetwashing mine soon and will likley be making a video on it. I've read reviews from people claiming that it comes out with a jetwash so I'm am keen to find out for myself.
Great video, thank you. Would you recommend this product to be used just to repair the area where the grout has gone in an old patio and top up where needed? Many thanks
Yes this would work great, just make sure to remove all the old stuff around the repair and compact it very well

You and me both!
I use a black dye powder
brilliant
Thanks 🙏
Ive got york stone flags on my path and some of the gaps are quite wide will this stoll work
Yes, but it'll be expensive given how thick yorkshire stones are!
Don’t buy it. Mix your own. Much cheaper and way better
How do you remove it once dried? Because we've recently had Indian stone laid and they used black grout, which is an eye sore.
A lot of patience and a grout rake.. or something like an old chisel and hammer. It's a long a tedious process.
Step 4 is the best 👍
Thanks 🙏
Does this stuff brush off easily? I am worried that using this on wet sandstone will leave a residue that stains if brushed off and not washed off.
Yes it does brush off easily, just make sure it's super wet!
Does it adhere to wooden edging sleepers?
Yes I’ve done this and it worked. I did a video on laying a small patio if you want to check it out.
Excellent Video and yes, that sht is kerrazee money !
Indeed it is!

You’re not wrong, but the colour of this is its main benefit

I haven't...
You say better finish but mine looks horrible after only 4 months! It’s gone all green, black and brown. Looks like shite.

First mistake was buying it, wet point stone every time, takes longer but worth it, especially if your sealing it after.
Fair enough!! I wanted the grey colour choice tbh

Congrats!
@@sumeraybuilds used my typing keyboard for that
