Thank you! I've been waiting for this one. Got my first blue a while back and I need to clean it before I use it as it's really sticky. Awesome as always!
As clarification for people who don't have multiple alps boards to compare between (like me): How would I know when the point is reached where cleaning the sliders does "more good than harm", even if they have lube applied to them? Are the dark deposits a sign they've been so severely used it's worth it?
I just scored a NAN TAN mechanical keyboard : KB-6451EA with complicated white alps. keys very scratchy and some don't register. I think I am in for some restoration work and some deep cleaning. thats for this great series.
@@Chyrosran22 It was a joke! Anyway it might be handy for cleaning a whole case, or big and difficult parts like the plastic thing that has all the barrels on a model M (and that usually is the nastiest)

Next time, can you dub the sound to the background? I can't hear a thing you said. It immediately made me close the window. I just came back cause it pissed me off so much I had to comment. I understood about 3 words before it was unbearable. Next time, as a guy with over 100k subs, please do your viewers a favor and dub your voice over the sound, or get rid of it completely. I understand some people want to listen to it or know what a ultra sonic cleaner sounds like. But after a few seconds, please turn it down, or put your voice over it, or even speak after it's done cleaning. It's unbearable to listen to and when you have to speak over it, it's impossible to understand. (Yes I know some trolls will say they can hear you just fine, but I cant).
what a lovely sound the sonicator makes.
Oh, another video by Thomas. Let me grab my headphones so I can listen to pleasant keyboard sounds.... JESUS JUMPING JACK CHRIST WHAT IS THAT NOISE!?
Thumbnail looks like you're trying out different cereals.
I was secretly watching this at work and the sonicator's sound made me throw my headphones. My boss scolded me and I blame you.
oof
get fucked

Excellent video, this is good information to know next time I'm restoring an Alps keyboard.
What kind of sonicator do you use, Tom? Btw I'm really enjoying these cleaning and restoration videos, thanks!!
Lord Chyros, can similar techniques be applied to mid-late 90's era alps.tw switches or similar?
Yes, but Alps clones are more difficult to reassemble.
Breakfast cereal of champions.
I can't wait for the next video!
I thought you said don't mix the inner parts as they were together for many years, but you washed the stems altogether here... is that still good?
Yes, but sonicating one by one would take ages
Should the sliders be solicated too if they're dirty enough?
Did I spot a tube of Apiezon grease in there?
**Waiting part 3 like a maniac**
How about a switch which activates when it bottoms out, thereby giving you the clearest tactile feedback possible? ...Oh shit...
Lovely jubbly.
damn dude i remember when you had like 7500 subs
Looks like I know what guide I’m gonna use if I ever get some really fucked alps
holy hell your cleaner is massive compared to this tiny crest cleaner I have. you could deep fry a turkey in that thing
You should see iur BIG sonicator, it's about six times the size of this one! XD
@@Chyrosran22 So why not taking the shortcut and throw the whole keyboard in?
@@karellen00 Electronics + water = yay

Test using some variety of WD40 lubricants
They have a silicone one.
@@metallitech Then he shall buy that and try it out =). Though maybe not all the products are available in the Netherlands.
WD40 is not a lubricant

I'm pretty sure that's the sound of the machine fucking with the mic, I think he should just dub over this part and reupload
ultrasonics use sound waves to clean and that is what your hearing.
It's just some extratone techno > 10000 bpm on the background.
That's how you know the device is running.
