    The Schengen Agreement has ruined the dream for millions around the world to slow travel through Europe. Gone are the days of crossing from Spain to France and resetting your clock in a neighboring country. If your country is not a member of Schengen you have to look at these 26 countries as one, an American can only spend 90 days out of 180 days between all 26 countries. Montenegro and a handful of European countries including the UK are options to live in to reset your Schengen clock. If you’re an American, Canadian, Australian, New Zealander, or from South Africa a Non-Schengen country like Montenegro should be in consideration for your investment budget. Even if you’re not choosing residency in Montenegro, it’s a great place to live 90 out of 180 days if you need to leave the Schengen. There are some residency options available through a few Schengen countries, but most of these require €250,000-€1,000,000 invested in or paid to the country. Italy has some options that are vaguely written and subjective to local decisions that can be inconsistent. To us Montenegro is the easiest and possibly most cost effective options available if Europe residency is desired.
    We bought our home in Kotor Montenegro in 2016, we were enchanted by this medieval city from first sight. With the low cost of living, Mediterranean climate, UNESCO Heritage designation, and it's popularity as a tourist destination for Eastern Europeans and the British it made perfect sense to buy here. As we travel Europe over the next 5 to 10 years we will be using our home in Montenegro as our home base, rest assured our journey is not ending.

    Do you want to live abroad as an Expat? Are you looking for affordable and viable options? We are exploring the world to see what it's like to live in a country, and also discover if Residency is an option.
    We began our retirement in March of 2020 with the intent to travel the world, spending 1-3 months in a country or location. We want to see what it's like to live there and not simply visit, and we want to share these experiences and the costs with whoever wishes to follow along.
    If your looking for a place in Europe to live or retire Montenegro may be an option, stay tuned and follow along.
    We will make a commission on these links, your rates are not impacted.

    One of our spokes to our wheel for savings, and now an income stream
    is Fundrise. Basically we are invested in many apartment complexes around the country.
    We get a portion of the rents in the form of dividends, and growth in value with the appreciation
    of the properties. We currently have selected an income REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust)
    which historically pays between 7.5% - 9% annually in dividends. You can chose a balanced REIT which has a split between appreciation and dividends or a REIT where it's focused on appreciation and not dividends.
    Check it out to see if it's a fit for your savings, or retirement strategy. Feel free to share this with those you feel may benefit from this program.

    Hi Bumped into your channel. I am from US, and want to spend time in Europe with one of the countries as a base and travel around different parts of Europe for about 2/3 years. The Shengen visa allows only 90 days per every 180 days in the EU. I liked your idea which is shuttling between a Schengen and a non Schengen country. I was thinking of Spain on a Non Lucrative visa or Portugal on a D7 visa and even with that temp residence there, I believe they enforce the 90 day / 180 day rule and this doesnt help in staying in the EU zone and be able to travel within EU any time without the 90/180 rule. Can you please do a video on ideas how one can bypass this without going thru applying for temp Visa, the paper work etc. Will be Much appreciated. Is it possible to get apartment rentals for 1month duration in any given place that may workout cheaper than airbnb etc. Thanks and so glad i bumped into your channel

    Thank you for sharing important information , I think this interview covered good topics such as Residency, Bank , Car , duration of stay etc . Can you do another video in near future if possible about Serbia Residency , Banking system , Car ownership , duration eligibility during residency etc . I do understand that you have made one video in last few months In Serbia with lawyer in NoVI Sad , but still I feel it requires more through info as nicely presented in this video about montenegro . As I am owner of property in belgrade and I am eligible to enter Serbia for 90 days even without if not owning property ,as per my country passport ( UAE) , but I am exploring on temporary residency options if can be a better option only to enable and have the advantage of activating my current banking transfer / Receive online in there as I came to know this is not possible as banking policy in serbia if property owner os not a residence for this option ( only physical presence in bank is eligible for such transactions ) , this will help to be able and easiness to lease or sell any unit in future if required Also for propose purchase and owning of car etc. once again thank you for interesting and useful videos 🙏

    I must be missing something. You're allowed out of the country 10 mos out of 5 years if you obtain residency. How would this be a good a good base for you?? I guess you're in for 3 mos on a tourist visa and out for the 3 mos to explore the Schengen countries. Keeping your travel cost lower back and forth. I guess you keep rotating and never obtain residency? I've enjoyed your videos, the Ecuador tours were very helpful. Thanks

Does it have any advantage vs. when you get to the country to set it up? Also, in terms of the bank account, do you need to show the Bank residency proof in order to open an account with the £3650, or this can be done simultaneously? OK, let me make sure I understand this correctly. To qualify for a Business Owner visa, the only "business activity" one has to show for the business is to pay a tax of 100 Euros/month, which includes health coverage in the public health system for the business owner? And the Business Owner visa allows the business owner to be in OR outside of Montenegro for any length of time they choose during the year that they have the temporary version of that visa? And the only other requirement is that the business owner has to deposit 3,650 Euros into a local bank at the time they apply for the first temporary visa, but there is no requirement to keep that money in the bank once they get the visa or re-deposit it when applying for subsequent temporary visas?
    And if the business owner wants their partner to be able to have the same ability to move in and out of the country, the partner would need to "establish" their own separate business and apply for their own Business Owner visa with all of the requirements listed above?
    Surely I'm missing something. I know these rules can change at any time, but the apparent ease with which one can get a temporary visa in Montenegro seems too good to be true (maybe that's why your guest was laughing). If you aren't concerned about getting a permanent residency visa, this sounds like an option that is unbelievably easy to exercise.

    • @WarrenJulieTravel
      @WarrenJulieTravel  3 года назад +1

      Yes, and you summarized our understanding of the process quite well. 👍

    • @balkanexpert.9776
      @balkanexpert.9776 3 года назад +1

      Let me explain. Maybe my words were not so clear in the video. 1.It is about permanent residence permit which you renew annually. Visa is another document and definition in Monte. 2.Owner of the business no right to apply for a res.permit. Only director can. So to get a perm.res.permit the owner of the company in Monte should be an executive director of the same company. 3.If you want to apply for a Permanent res.permit one day the limitation for absence for the director is: no more than 10 months out during 5 years and no more than 6 months together within that 10 months 4.Deposit as of 3650 e has nothing with business. It is a guarantee deposit on your private bank acc.in Montenegro bank to confirm the authorities that you have money for livinig. You can spend this money after you get your temporary res.permit 5.As for family member - the restrictions regarding absence during 5 years are the same as for the director. But there are additional limitations, which dont cover a director. And it is that if you have permit as a family member or property owner you can not be out MNE more than 3 months a year. And from these 3 months you can be absent only one month without any approval. But if you want be out more than 1 month (and not more than 3 months) a year you need to inform the immigration police in an appropriate way, mentioned the good reasins for absence and provide the police with documents, which confirm your reasons.

    • @Calipeixegato
      @Calipeixegato 3 года назад

      @@balkanexpert.9776 Thank you for your response. I'm pretty sure that you essentially confirmed what I thought. I think we use different words to describe the same thing and that can cause confusion (for example, when I say "owner" of the business, I am referring to what you call the "director" of the business, even though I realize it is possible for them to be 2 different people).

    If you intend to come to Montenegro maybe 6 months out of the year the residency permit for setting up a business would be the most suitable.

      Limitations are mostly connected to the Permanent res.permit. So that if there is an intention to apply for a Perm.res.permit one day you have to remember that the general rule is no more than 10 months out within 5 years. I don’t think you have the ability to do residency without originating the process in your home country, I’m assuming it’s the US?

      A very thought-provoking video! Along the lines of Capitals194 comment, curious what qualifies as a business? Could one purchase outright four or five properties and then rent it out to locals or tourist with VRBO and Airbnb and be called a business owner? All the while, traveling back-and-forth to the US and reapplying for a temporary residency once the 10 months has been used up. If after 8 to 10 years of doing this, the owner retires permanently to Montenegro would full permanent residency be granted month one, based on today’s laws and residency rules?
      Long winded question but hopefully it’s a simple answer like.... yea and yes 😉
      Keep up the great work- love your videos!

    • @WarrenJulieTravel

      The scheme we were speaking about you don’t necessarily need a functioning business. You can however have a money making business, and I’d think your VRBO would qualify as one, I’ll let Yulie respond though. You would need five years of temporary residency with no more than 10 months out of the country for permanent residency. Thanks for watching 👍

      Yes, there is an economic citizenship programme. It is available until 31st of Dec 2021. Minim.investments are from apprx 400.000 e (including investments itself, commissions of the agency, government tax). It takes about 6 months to get a Montenegrin passport if you were approved by the complience

    Hi, I've 2 questions:
    1) Which bank (s) would you recommend?
    2) With the current Asian hate-crime, I'm trying to find out, which country are more open, and acceptable to Asians in general?
    We're looking at Serbia, maybe Albania, ... & am not entirely sure. Perhaps even Montenegro.
    Would truly appreciate a lot if you could help us out. Much thanks.

      I don’t know much about any Asian hate crime, that’s not a thing around Montenegro or Serbia that I’m aware of. Regarding banks our friend recommended Erste bank in Montenegro. Hope this helps.

    • @mkedan6741
      @mkedan6741 3 года назад +1

      m o i, as a Serbian/American, I can sadly say that Asian hate crime is a mostly United States phenomenon. Serbia has a very close relationship with China and these are thousands of Chinese living throughout Serbia(most of them are shop owners) and there are a lot of students. Novi Beograd/New Belgrade has a whole neighborhood that is dedicated to Chinese residents(over 10,000 people). There are Chinese/Oriental markets and restaurants throughout the city. As you speak English, you should be able to navigate there easily. If you look at our recent history, Serbia/Yugoslavia had and still has good relations with the Orient, the Middle East, Israel, Russia, most countries of the EU and even the USA which has large corporations investing there. Too bad we couldn't get along as southern Slavs. Many educated Balkan people are leaving for EU countries due to more opportunity and better pay.

      @@mkedan6741 Hi, hi!! Thank you so much for your input, truly appreciate you taking the time. 🙏🙏
      That kind of concludes what I've learned about Serbia. Really helpful indeed.
      Well, trouble is - I can't get into Serbia directly as a Malaysian Chinese. I need to fly into, either Albania, Or Bosnia where there's a Serbian Embassy, and hopefully they can issue me a visa to enter. Otherwise, I just can't.
      Speaking of hate crime, I do know it's mostly a US phenomenon. Sad though.
      What did you mean you're a Serbian/American? 🤔
      Just curious. 😄
      Younger generations of more educated ones are leaving their home countries to pursue jobs, and opportunities are everywhere, here in Malaysia as well. Because we don't get jobs easily, nor do they pay well enough in some segment of different fields, sadly. Therefore I can understand. I was fortunate, without a master degree, I had a pretty well paid job (s) & companies I was with, did well as employers. But that was some years ago. Things have since changed.
      I've a question: Hope you don't mind. What about the pandemic? What is your & general populations view on that?
      I've to be honest, I'm not a fan of vaccines, nor am I a anti-vaccine person, but I've no clue what is in that shot (s)! & I do think this whole virus thing is really all political, and with a huge agenda. & there's a reason for it to continue.
      Once again, thanks so much for being so helpful. You're appreciated 🙏👍
      Cheers from Asia x

    It’s sad to see this beautiful gem of a country to be displayed on RUclips now by anyone wanting to make $$$ for passive income. Now there is so much international interest from other developed countries where affordability is declining that the locals of Montenegro will soon be squeezed out of there out place. This hype is also driving up the price of real estate, soon will be making it just as unaffordable as neighboring countries. With that, foreigners bring their own bad habits, politics and take up employment positions. Yet, the locals are suffering. Locals always welcomed tourists, but now these tourists becoming residents. RUclips eventually will ruin the quaintness of this country. 😢
