I was there too... I drove on my motorbike from Italy, slept by the river in a sleeping bag and taped the concert as well with an AIWA and took pictures... probably the greatest concert I ever saw. It was an all day happening!!
I was here with many German and American friends. I climbed on top of the flag pole at the top of the stadium and added an American flag to go with the German one already there. I believe it was Jethro Tull playing at the time, who temporarily stopped playing and yelled something like “well will you look at that”. A security guard ran to the roof and began chasing me. When I finally got to the ground, two police officers grabbed me and started dragging me to the exits. The security guard (who I lied to in German earlier that I worked there) ran up and with the police holding me, he hit me in the face and bloodied my lip and nose. The police then said “well.. that’s good enough” and let me go. One of the most memorable days of my life.

I was at the festival too. I remember Michael Schenker Group, Jethro Tull, and Neil Young, although I guess I had been confused about the names of the other two bands. Some student friends from the University of Maryland Munich Campus took me by train. I had my tent and camped overnight right nearby, and the other students had tents too. I'm thinking we slept two nights in tents, and at least one for sure. The electric lead guitar for the Neil Young performance sounded great at the time! I really appreciate your sharing this!
The first band was Cheetah and the other was King Crimson. K. Crimson is a great progressive rock band. Bill Bruford played drums. Nils Lofgren was on lead guitar for Neil Young.

In Nurenburg that day it was very hot and sunny at the Zeppelinfeld. We were spraying water on the croud to cool down and the chicks were soaking wet, braless and drunk. Wow, what a great time! And the day before I saw the same concert in Wiesbaden!
I was also in Wiesbaden on the Rhine meadows the day before. That was really strong as the sun went down and Neil Young played. Before that, Jethro Tull was there. Greetings from Offenbach
