Would you rather just photograph something on your phone, or use a DSLR / mirrorless. Whats your preference? OH and spoiler alert - this ain't even close to 2 minutes lol.
Peter McKinnon I need a DLSR Camera, Please send me one, Peter😭😭😭
Peter McKinnon
Dslr is a first preference
Peter McKinnon Hi, please check out my first short film, which I shot only using my smartphone.
ruclips.net/video/N4Ll1xCI5G4/видео.html
Peter McKinnon id prefer dslr for the fun of the gear haha
dlsr because of the quality of course
I would HATE to be the main photographer for that wedding hahah
I would LOVE to see what they actually took though...
Yeah no pressure at all for the photographer :P At least, if he sucked Peter saved the day!
I was thinking the same. I mean I love Peter but this is stepping on some toes. I would have been so mad if I were shooting that wedding!
Adfectu Artwork Benjamin Ortega, is it you?😂
Stephanie Ramsey oh come on, every guest takes iphone photos at weddings these days
When Peter's iPhone photos look better than the pro wedding photographer photos. 😂
A. They only look good comparatively on this compressed 1080p RUclips video. B. Blown up on a computer screen and side by side there would be no comparison. C. Phone photos cannot be printed on large canvases or into larger photo frames. D. What you like is his editing style, everything else will fall short on phone VS. dslr. This video is a waste of time and filler. All he's showing is if you don't have a camera and just a phone, you can have some nice IG photos if you learn how to edit and practice.
Ruffneck101 chillll he’s just complimenting how skilled peter is with any camera geez
lol the over kill is real
@@Ruffneck101 damn why so salty were you the wedding photographer or something
Same situation with my id photo and profile pic
Hearing the way you talk about photography and the pure passion and creativity that flows through you is so inspiring!
Man, in addition being a good editor, filmmaker, creative mind, you're a great communicator! Thank you for sharing it with followers! Cheers from Lisbon, Portugal!
i dont think you used despite correctly but its aight youre from pourtugal
Shot my first wedding today, small wedding but definitely so much to learn.
Sem duvida nenhuma!!! ;-)
I hope to one-day be able to communicate as well as he does when I start doing videos on creators, interviews, reviews on tech, and other stuff.
As a wedding photographer I appreciate this video but I am SUREEE that the wedding photographer of your friend's wedding hates you now hahahaha...
Michelle Cox Photography YES, that must’ve sucked to be the photographer with peter there, and on top of that, him shooting pics on top of you!! Ughhh nightmare!!!!!
Michelle Cox Photography we do
Yeah, I dont think Peter should have done this, in this situation. A wedding.. it's time to sit back and be there for the couple. Not to make a point like this. The couple clearly hired another pro to do their job, and now that was possibly out shadowed by this video. I LOVE Peter SO much! But, I think this was wrong and in poor taste. Kinda like the "right tool for the job" in this case.. you need to know when to stop, and be there for others.
in my opinion, he is giving on some tips that you dont need an expensive equipment to shoot a good photography and this tips can come handy for those who cant afford a professional photographer on their wedding day but still want a good photos to remember by... and if his friends didnt want him to put their photos, then he wont put it on anyway... there are purpose for everything :) not everyone can afford thousands of dollars worth of photography but that doesnt mean they dont deserve a good photo. this is me speaking as a photographer as well :)
Travis Harris Photography I see where you are coming from and I can agree, but it’s their wedding and I can imagine that they would looove as many photos as they could get, professional and unprofessional to capture all the memories and moments. Also I recon he would have probably asked the photographer maybe and if he hadn’t, I don’t think he would get in the road of the other photographer, due to him being one as well. He also would know what it is like to have people getting in the road trying to take his own photos.
You talk with so much passion! I love the tips you gave, simple and useful!
the way you talk about photography really shows how passionate you are about it and its really inspiring for people like me who want to get into photography. I'm so glad I found your youtube channel!
_Twelve Minute Tuesday back again!!_
Katie Weinhold got that right 😂
LOL
lol
😂😂😂
eastern standard time, central standard time and then there is McKinnon standard time. in the last time zone it was only a bit over 2 minutes.
Pete rocking that Jared Letto hair haha
Pete my man! Your channel is amazing! Thanks for all the expert tips you provide, and I love the very down to earth style of delivery of your tutorials. It really makes all of this photography stuff, which is normally intimidating, seem very accessible. I have a question:
- When would you consider it most effective to use the lighter side of the vignette slider?
Awesome advice thank you Peter
Imagine being a wedding photographer and Peter mckinnon being there as a guest. Even armed with an iPhone I bet that would be pretty intimidating 😅
hahahahhahaahah
And when you know he is better than you. 😅
Ha ha ha ha ha 😂
Only if you're a novice.
lol forreals, don't care who you are if you're in the way

I'm using Snapseed rather than lightroom. But that Lens Distortion app blew my mind. "They were passable/acceptable" lol Peter, they were fantastic! Thanks for the video.
I started using Snapseed more than 7 years ago. I constantly comare different apps to it. And I haven't found anything easier and as intuitive to this day.
@@alexanderpetrov1038 Idk I find Lightroom easier on mobile
Peter McKinnon I love you so much your videos are the best I will always subscribe my mom subscribed you You are the best
your a iphone user?
Yes, I would love to see a video about having an eye, understanding the light, etc like you were talking about during the intro... Great vid, learned a TON thank you!!
When Peter can out shoot most people with a phone... Killer shots!
Super awesome stuff Peter! Thank you!
Pete I am shooting my first wedding this weekend!! Thanks to you, I never got into photography till I saw one of your videos back when you had about 60k subs lol. I would love to see more tips for wedding shots personally!
I watch a LOT of photography videos. Yours are, HANDS DOWN, my favorite. I always pick up something, from inspiration to a cool filter. . . .
since I watched your old video i use LD and SnapSeed all the time... I know most of the things i know because of you... thank you so much for being yourself and teaching all of us to these amazing things... I'm speechless
Glad to hear it
I use snapseed too...simple app..
I love snap seed, it makes it so easy.
Хванат в крачка :D
Bro! You have to stop. You're making wedding photogs with expensive gear look bad!
Neil.is.FAMOUS haha just show her this vid. It's definitely a common misconception about equipment... as we know, it's not all about the equipment, it's MOSTLY about the photographer (cliche, yes, but true)
expensive gear has an solid edge in IQ, AF etc., compared to phones. In the right hands, expensive equipment gives limitless posibilities and options on how to handle different challenging situations.
Just for digital purposes, once we print it goes away :/
Smartphone cameras have already replaced cameras by the masses, and professionally speaking - every new iPhone/Samsung that comes out has better and better camera quality its really only a matter of time before DSLR are unnecessary as well. People are shooting full on cinema films on smartphone cameras - everything evolves eventually
Smartphones won't replace DSLR. Just because of the sensor which is much bigger in a real camera than in a smartphone.
watching you edit photos is really cool and helpful! and describing why you're changing settings is awesome.
Peter, this video was great. Helpful, fun, informative, encouraging...you nailed it man. Thanks for doing what you do and sharing it with us!
Peter, I’d love a video with more detail about having a good eye etc. thanks for this one too.
Cole Belt I posted the same thing but deleted it when he gave some of his "I spy with my little eye" tips but going deeper in the subject would be killer content!!!! Hope he sees this
Pete took 3 minutes to put 2 minutes on the clock 😅
Thanks Pete. You always inspire other creators!
the passion conveyed in this video is priceless.
DUDE the table top set up with your phone looks really good 🤘
Great edits as usual. These phone photos look like they could be frames from a movie!
Justin Buice Eyy love your ch. man!! good to see you here!!
Another killer video and great tips Peter. Keep killing it!
Thank you for this video. I’ve been waiting for a video for a long time. Please do more like these!!
I've watched those 2 min Tuesday, I've watched them all but personally the longer the 2 min Tuesday the happier I am 😁 Quality content bro!
i totally agree with you!
No need to cut out too much to make it a two minute Tuesday. Re-title it to Tutorial Tuesday. Then you can make it any length video.
I hope he never actually makes one that's only 2 minutes!
Maybe Peter should change the name to 20 minute Tuesday - no pressure and we'd all be thrilled! :D
"Gonna Try to Keep it at 2 minutes" (Already 3 minutes in)
Joshua Bedford ho see his 15min video of 2min Tuesday right now..
Thanks for the inspiration Pete, just change it to 10 minute Tuesday your tips and info are too valuable to cut out.
Huge thanks.
You're a great guy! Genuine, honest and helpful, I like that. Thank you so much for all the high quality videos u make.
I would love to hear more about wedding photography from you!! You’re amazing at all arts of photography it seems
I am shooting my first paid wedding mid August, and shot my first (as a guest) last weekend. It’s very challenging
12:00 min Tuesday.
Portrait mode - during the day - outside, is absolutely beautiful. Im stunned by the pictures I can get on my phone sometimes. These were amazing photos and some great tips!
Loved this video!! Thanks for the app suggestions
DUDE, the magic intro WAS AWESOME!
There’s a lot to learn from a constrained environment like a phone. It’s almost like a boot camp for your creativity.
I almost don’t take pictures on my phone these days but this it’s making me want to go out there and just experiment a bit.
I'm so glad to have found your channel - you're such an inspirational, enthusiastic and talented individual I'm in awe. Got yourself a new subscriber and fan.
Awesome video, I love shooting through stuff. Warmth and unique are two styles I go for.
Alot of people here are asking Peter to explain more about having a "good eye" in photography. He did, having a good eye means knowing all the compositions in the back of your head and being able to spot them. Be it framing the shot with leaves (Creating depth), positioning the couple so that the sun acts as a hair light instead of a fill/key light, using leading lines, rule of thirds. On top of that, knowing what editing tools are available to you contributes to the "good eye" as well. Exposing for the subject but sky is blown out? its okay cuz we can add lens flare, color of that blue building not looking very good? its okay we can change the hue to Teal to match the orange skin tones. Watch more tutorials, keep shooting and editing and eventually you'll have the "good eye"
JESUS MCKINNON?
Piff that's what I thought.. 😂😄
Is it the hair 😄😄
No it's B-roll Jesus.
Piff thats what i was thinking to the whole vid.haha
Wahahahaha i think if he cuts his hair a bit shorter he wouldn't like a portrayer of jesus
Very much enjoy iPhone photography and your tutorials. Keep up the great work...
You are fantastic. Didn't know anything about photography until a few months back. Binge watching your channel, I learnt a lot. Thanks. You are now somewhat of a legend.
Been here since 100K, and with you till 100M 👍
Creative way to show your phone screen! Would love to hear what you did to make that happen :)
EposVox it’s apples new built in screen recorder
This is on Windows..
I feel like he recorded the screen. (You can tell he did because of the red around the time) maybe uploaded it to the computer to an image of an iPhone with that stuff in the background. And then laid the recording on the image of the iPhone?
Very good quality video there Pete. Every process is explained really well and absolutely like these tips videos. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for the awesome tips and app names.. Amazing tools...
Can we get a magic trick mondays
"Can I shine a light through that napkin"... this is the kind of mindset that inspires us to capture every moment in a way that is truly inimitable
I love how you filmed this video!!! lol the fact that you took a picture of your phone and cropped the video on to it. your artistic view is amazing!!
Love the lens distortions app works really well
Ten minute Tuesdays??
Twelve... lol
Twenty*
I would love to hear more about „Findling the right light“ and perspective and compositions e.g. Would you make more of Those videos?
When it comes to digital photography, I learn soooo much from you dude!! I just bought your fall 2018 presets! I prefer film but man, thank you so much bro!!
Yes! Would love to learn more about looking for the light, what to shoot for, composition. Love the videos so much man--thank you!
YES! make a video on what you look for when looking for compositions to shoot :) whether is a certain light, reflection, textures, symmetry... etc. Or the mentality you have before taking photos, do you freestyle it? no expectations? do some research? anything in the actual art of taking a photo and not just post production :)
Joshua Petersen he has already done a video on composition!!
OMG the way you ended lol 😂. I could watch your videos all day long..
If there more fans as crazy as me 👍🏼

Would love for you to do a video that delves deeper into your creativity process!! Loved this video!
Thanks for the heads up on Lens Distortions...powerful yet simple app....loving the 2 minute Tuesdays...
The end of this video ... LOL! Well played :)
Peter is stunting an Aquaman look these days
rclewright u so right
Peter, I learn so much from you with every video! You're awesome, and a super talented photographer and teacher.
I’m a Creative Pro at the fruit stand and I love this! This is such a great tutorial of what you can do! Thank you for sharing this! You’re awesome!
That moment when the photographer's photos arent even close as good as the photos taken on his phone 😂😂😂
If they're not I'd be surprised.
Knowing Pete and his expertise, I wouldn't be
Emil Daniel It would be nice to see them. As I'm sure he would agree, it's a lot easier to be a guest and take pictures of what you like, but if you're being paid there are expectations and requirements plus a lot of pressure. They've probably never heard of him anyway
They would've heard of him
gleneth Why do you say that?
Peter. . I love ya man.. but I wouldn't want newbie photographers to misunderstand what you're saying and just start going out and shooting weddings and potentially ruin the most important day of someone's life. . . .I would suggest they find a professional that they can shadow and second-shoot for first. . .and do that for a good few months before even considering going out and taking on a wedding as a main shooter. Weddings only happen once, and they're not a place to go out and test or build your skills without prior experience. 👍🏻 :)
but if that newbie is named peter mckinnon ,i wouldnt hesitate...
Pretty sure that isn't directed to a total newbie. More towards someone that has some experience and has at least a body of work (folio) to present to potential clients. That's what a couple would be looking for at a minimum from their potential photographer yeah? Peter did mention a few other styles have some transferable skills to bring into wedding photography too.
Light Science Studios: I tend to agree. I suppose you could do what peters talking about as a secondary photographer “in the side”. Where you just work on your skills and then give the bride and groom any photos you took that they liked.
Adrian Lagniton yes.. but the other part to it is weddings are unlike almost any other type of Photography. They are high stress environments where things rarely go according to plan. It’s a lot different than doing a family portrait session or shooting a product in a studio, even though those skills do come into play. So it takes a certain personality to be a wedding photographer and someone who is not only confident in their skills, but also quick on their feet and calm under pressure. So that’s why you should always second shoot with a professional before ever trying it on your own as a main.
Had the same thoughts as you. I'm a part-time wedding photographer and feel it's definitely not a place to experiment, especially if you're the primary shooter. Now if you're shadowing, that's totally okay to experimenting as the main responsibilities does not fall directly on you. A photographer covering a wedding should already have a developed groove on how they work and cover the event. Can't be there to learn how to dance; gotta know how already so that you can focus on adding on new moves!
Lens Distortion!! Love it!! After watching this video I took an old pic and played around. So cool!!!
Truly wonderful ideas, advice, and examples. Thank you sir!
Man, that footage looks so dope! You're such an inspiration for my channel. Keep it up Pete :)
Could you make a video explaining “The Eye”. Feel like that would build some confidence for a many and weed out the rest.
Great Video!!
Peter, I learn so much from your 2min Tuesdays that I can't process it all! Thank you I can't wait to try!
Just discovered your channel recently and catching up binge watching. I love the content and tips! I’d love more tips on wedding photography and portraits in general. Thanks!
Having an eye for "the shot" has been such a hard thing for me. I would love to understand the little things to look for. I am a videographer/photographer for about a year now, and although I am gaining some momentum in my career, I am aware that I am self-conscious of my shots because I know that I could do better. Love you Peter but if you could do a future video on that iD LOVE IT
I love how his two minute Tuesday are never two minutes 😂😂
I'm an mobile photographer using my iPhone XS and I want to thank you so much for this video! I downloaded "Lens Distortions" right away and so far, loving it! Using it a lot now!
Thanks man, for all your videos. Love from Brazil.
Are the apps free to use?
Thanks for the video, great job
Say what??? I'm intrigued!!! Okay BRB time to watch the vid
love it peter... love that you made a green screen rectangle and then fitted the procedure in... very neat and was to follow my friend
Such a helpful video. Just got Lens Distortion. Can't wait to play!
I haven't shot wedding in about 5 years (I hate shooting weddings) but you were "that guy" with the cell phone in the front row. At least it wasn't a 70-200 on your 1DX II..: ) ...Fantastic images as well!
Jesus, is that you?
I was asking myself the same thingggggg
this is my favorite coment lmaooooo im so here for this look
He's back...with magic tricks!!
That’s so true!! Look so much similar
Jesus would look like levant arabs. You are fooled by the fake Jesus depiction by europeans
Thanks Peter. Just went to install the lens distortion app and realised it was already on my phone. lol. Some of my favourite photos I've taken have been on my phone. When you use your phone to take photos you are in the moment and you aren't concentrating on the settings but you're focused on capturing the moment. I love Lightroom - I'm going to have a play with lens distortion now. Thanks for the great tips!
Boom! Finally grabbed your LUTS brother - can't wait to use them. Thanks for all your amazing work!
I was hoping you had them tip videos out already as I'm shooting my first wedding tomrrow😅
Hopefully it went well and everyone was satisfied!
