I was recently asked to contribute to a book by S.W. Lauden focused on punk drumming and was asked to write about ten songs that were memorable to learn and influenced my playing over the years. These are the ten songs that I wrote about.

I couldn’t have a top 10 which didn’t feature Byron McMackin but good to see Derek Plourde in there. I really liked his playing on Rock the Plank by Mad Caddies and he made Ludwig cool again.

I would have been personally offended if Derrick didn't make your list!! But rifle is also my favourite Lagwagon song so solid choice there. Hands down most underappreciated punk drummer, his death was a tragic loss for the genre.

I know punk drumming is not about virtuosity and precission but rather about having a blast, but damn, to anyone who says "punk drumming is for lazy, uneducated people" I say "but can you play it cleanly AND with feeling at the same time?" haha
