I just wanna point something out for y'all: In "The Headband", we learn that the Fire Nation doesn't dance. They don't believe in dancing. They don't even know what it MEANS to dance. But in this episode, we see that a dance is literally the most sacred, most ancient form of firebending. Dancing is integral to the Sun Warrior culture- the original culture of the element of fire. We see just how much the Fire Nation has perverted the element of fire- they no longer dance. They've forgotten their roots.
Also that even Jeong jeong, the "enlightened one", the first to desert the army, got it wrong about Firebending being just destruction and pain. Iroh was truly the only one in the firenation who REALLY knew what firebending meant.
It's because as the fire nation became more imperialistic they started to view their flames as a weapon to be used with precision and excessive force (the reason why azula is so good at it) whereas that doesn't accurately represent the nature of fire. It's energetic and free, it's unpredictable and lively due to constant movement similar to a dance (hence the emphasis on dancing) Which I think was a perfect way to parallel the 2 firebending styles and zuko was the perfect character to express them through due to his idealistic nature and his prior inferiority to azula because it meant that learning this new style was able to put him on a level playing field with her for their agni kai

The Sun Warriors are based mostly on Southeast Asian cultures like Thailand and Indonesia. Look up Candi Sukuh, Angkor Wat, and Phanom Rung. There’s probably little need to take inspiration for step pyramids from around the globe when it already exists in that area of the world. The closest thing that really ties them to Mesoamericans is their worshipping the sun and their celestial calendar, but a lot of cultures have worshipped the sun over the millennia.

From what we saw in the *“Avatar and the firelord”* Sozin was an extremely skilled firebender who incorporated different elemental philosophies into his bending style like waterbending, which was shown in his heat-redirection and play-fighting with Roku.

Also!!! In the episode “the headband”, we found out that people in the fire nation don’t dance. This is Zuko's second time flying on Appa. The first time was in "The Siege of the North, Part 2", although he was unconscious during that time. Sokka mocks Zuko by suggesting he should jump into a volcano. In the following episode, Sokka and Zuko both literally find themselves in a hot spot Aang calls Zuko "Sifu (Master) Hotman", a reference to his knowledge of what was common slang in the Fire Nation a hundred years prior. From this episode on, Zuko does not grunt in anger every time he firebends, which was something he did frequently in seasons one and two and part of season three.

Avatar Roku is Zuko's great-grandfather on his mother's side. So depending on how you view reincarnation, Aang (as a reincarnation of Roku) is Zuko's great-grandfather.

16:05 I love this shot cause it's a really smooth parallel to the slow-mo shot of aang's first attempt at firebending, the moment when he burned katara. for whatever reason it gets me right in the heart
I'm not gonna spoil anything. But low key this whole thing has been about Zuko. Aang and the fire Lord are just the playing out of a cyclical struggle humans have always had to face. Zuko coming of age and breaking the cycle is the real story.
This episode was part of an event called "Countdown to the Comet". The new episodes of Avatar began airing on July 14, starting with "The Western Air Temple", followed by "The Firebending Masters", The Boiling Rock parts one and two, "The Southern Raiders", "The Ember Island Players", and finally Sozin's Comet parts one through four. Iroh stated to Zuko in "Bitter Work" that firebending is fueled by rage and emotion, despite having known the true motivation behind the bending art. When Zuko is about to raise the golden artifact, Aang states that he is "very suspicious of giant glowing gems sitting on pedestals", most likely alluding to a similar situation concerning the booby-trapped golden idol from Raiders of the Lost Ark. Ran and Shaw resemble the red and blue dragons from Zuko's fever-induced dream in Ba Sing Se. The Sun Warrior's architecture resembles that of Indian Buddhist Stupas and Tibetan monasteries. The bowing gesture demonstrated by the Sun Warriors during Ran and Shaw's judgement is identical to the bowing gesture demonstrated by Kwan's students in "The Headband".
Watching y’all reaction, I JUST realized how Iroh got the nickname “Dragon of the WEST” because the Sun Warrior temple is in the western part of the world.
imo each of the gaang adds an element of what they were lacking based on their elemental attribute. Aang is an airbender who brings freedom and levity to katara and sokka's life, while they both help him adapt to a changing time/world and be flexible as waterbenders. Toph influenced the group as an earthbender by building on their North Pole victory, they went from travelling skirmishes/survival to seeking a foundation to oppose the fire nation via the library/earth king, and all being more headstrong. in this set of episodes, zuko as a firebender brings the group what they needed after two defeats (ba sing se+invasion) - drive, motivation, and energy. The next few episodes all go at a breakneck pace and thats in large part due to Zuko being the *spark* for the group to finally act on their deepest fears/motivations (aang learning fire, sokka's redemption/rescue mission, katara's revenge, mei+ty lee's decision, and finally fighting the fire lord)
I love y’all 🤧 Side note: notice how the true way of fire bending was through a dance which the fire nation kids (in the beginning of the season) didn’t know how to and were discouraged from doing so.
This ep gives so much depth and history to Iroh’s title: Dragon of the West !! Also Sheera was right, the two dragons are reminiscent of the two in Zuko’s visions, and his ancestry. They foreshadow that he’s related to Sozin and Roku earlier on. Love you guys
the only time zuko never covered his face if you notice was when iroh shot a fire blast at him while training because he trusted him other than when he was fighting zhao and wa able to block it zuko got that silver tongue hanging around iroh he knows how to talk eloquently i wouldnt say zuko not used to getting roasted i mean his dad did...... nevermind
I just love imagining the exchange Iroh would have had after he came back from “killing” the last dragon: Iroh: I killed the last dragon Ozai(probably): where’s your proof Iroh: There was nothing left for me to bring back Ozai: ... Iroh: .... Everyone Else: yeah that tracks
I love how the original Airbenders were the sky bison, the original Earthbenders were the badgermoles, and the original Firebenders were the dragons. But the original Waterbenders? THE F*CKING MOON! One of these things is not like the other! XD
The final move of the Dancing Dragon is reminiscent of the "Fusion" move in Dragon Ball Z. The entire Dancing Dragon form bears a striking resemblance to the real life Long Ying Mo Kui, the traditional Southern Dragon kung-fu style. Eternal flames are common to many ancient religions. In particular, the Hebrew Bible commands that the altar flame must never go out. The sun warriors also seem to have a shofar, a musical horn made from ram's horn that is used to announce religious ceremonies. This is the only episode of the franchise to first air on a Tuesday.
Red and blue dragons represented the struggle between good and evil in past episodes (Iroh and Azula in Zuko's nightmare, Roku's dragon and Sozin's dragon) so I always loved that the red dragon aligned with Zuko during the dance, symbolizing that he had finally chosen the side of good
Goosebumps for the last few minutes of this episode every time. The chanting buildup and then the music and visuals as they dance for Ran and Sha is beautiful.
About the music, the drums that start when they get to the top are the end credits theme. Actually, I'm pretty sure it plays whenever Zuko was fighting since the first season.
Actually, Azula's drive is to be perfect, and since the strength of her fire has to match her drive, it therefore makes her firebending perfect.(blue fire is hotter than orange fire)
You know, when Zuko had the mental breakdown in Ba Sing Se, the evil voice in his head was Azula as a blue dragon, and the good voice was Iroh as the red dragon. Then we learn that avatar Roku, who was Zuko great grandfather, spirit animal was a red gradon while his other great grandfather Sozin was a blue dragon. Then finally here, we see that the dragon who dancing with him is a red dragon, symbolizing that he IS good. Also, when they facing the dragons at rhe end. Zuko is facing the blue dragon, symbolizing he is facing his fear, and Aang facing the red dragon, symbolizing that he is also facing his fear of fire, when he burned Katara. The details in this anime is amazing.
all of this great story telling was done with drawn animation, our eyes can only take in so much so we really can't see true beauty or what the world is really like. but with animations you can help the brain understand things we would never see or fathom to ever think of.
I literally checked to see if you uploaded like 10 minutes ago and I was like, I feel like they will definitely upload today and as soon as i got back on youtube, there's the upload ready and waiting for me! Thanks guys!!
Hana People say the Zuko life-changing field trips didn’t need to happen (except sokka) but i strongly disagree. Just in this episode we learn about: - How Toph learned to see - How Zuko’s firebending would fuel, if not coming from rage - The original benders - That Iroh learned from the dragons - What happened to the dragons - The dragon egg - What firebending truly is - Why Zuko’s firebending was kinda weak before and why it gets so much better after this (This is a little more hidden but in “The Headband” we learn that fire nation have banned dancing so that means they never taught The Dancing Dragon.) And probably a lot more i missed out on! Amazing episode!
Y'know, that's really telling of the Fire Nation. This ancient Sun-Warrior form of fire bending is called the Dancing Dragon, and nowadays the Fire Nation won't even allow dancing of ANY kind in school. That's just so sad...
That was a magnificent episode!! I almost always tear up once the dragons come out, also with the idea that the rainbow fire binded Aang and Zuko together, and cleansed Zuko in a way too
10:51 never thought of it but now I get what their philosophy is he’s saying that with a lack of drive you have no firebending but with to much ambition and drive you can take things to far
This episode shows Toph learning earthbending from badgermoles. She had previously stated she learned the art from them in "Sokka's Master". Katara continues to be cold toward Zuko after he was finally accepted to the group in the previous episode. She remarks at the irony of him losing his firebending. The song chanted by the Sun Warriors to call forth the Masters is the same as the Avatar series ending credits song. The close-up of Aang shown as his first burst of fire is disappearing mirrors the close-up from "The Deserter" when he makes a ring of fire that results in Katara's being burned. That episode taught him the dark side of firebending and caused him to steer away from ever using it again; this one teaches him the true art, thus breaking that mental block.
is actually either self hatred or sociopathic tendencies that drive her fire to be that strong and precise. plus shes probably the actual child of the prophecy who benefits from sozin+roku;s bloodlines
This episode will always be my favorite in the whole series. I can't explain it. I just get chills and start crying when the dragons pass their judgement.
This is probably one of if not THE best episode of the show. Just the sheer majesty, world building, and spiritual details were amazing. And the music was absolutely amazing especially during the final judgment ceremony
I think it's cool that Iroh is known as "The Dragon of The West" and Zuko was on the west facing side of the dragon bridge. Kinda symbolizing him following in Iroh's shoes to me.

@Trashthlete Ohhh, my bad
The reason sozin hunted the dragons is so aang wouldn’t have a firebending teacher
That would make a good second theory reasoning lol
That's pretty clever.
@@bricky7081 I think mike and Bryan said that so i don’t think it’s a theory

@@xnortheast1106 oh ok I didn’t know
imo each of the gaang adds an element of what they were lacking based on their elemental attribute.
Pretty cool observation
I love y’all 🤧
Side note: notice how the true way of fire bending was through a dance which the fire nation kids (in the beginning of the season) didn’t know how to and were discouraged from doing so.
Sheera: "Don't tell anyone..."
2 seconds later... "But, seriously, don't tell anyone.."
Genius...
Lapusan - love, love, love how explosive your laughter is.. It's amazing...
Roshi "Whole-ass Pikachu.."

The dragon scene is imo the most beautiful in the show, I can’t help but tear up whenever I see it
Bruh at the start when sumo couldn’t firebend and said why she said “that internal conflict” so quick😂 mad accurate all the time
This ep gives so much depth and history to Iroh’s title: Dragon of the West !! Also Sheera was right, the two dragons are reminiscent of the two in Zuko’s visions, and his ancestry. They foreshadow that he’s related to Sozin and Roku earlier on. Love you guys
I was just scrolling through my subs and thinking man, an Avatar reaction would be great rn with my food.
Boom here you guys are. :D
Everyone gangsta till Zuko's scar is on the wrong side
Zuko has the best redemption arc ever written.
U ain’t lying
the only time zuko never covered his face if you notice was when iroh shot a fire blast at him while training because he trusted him other than when he was fighting zhao and wa able to block it
zuko got that silver tongue hanging around iroh he knows how to talk eloquently
i wouldnt say zuko not used to getting roasted i mean his dad did...... nevermind
I just love imagining the exchange Iroh would have had after he came back from “killing” the last dragon:
Iroh: I killed the last dragon
Ozai(probably): where’s your proof
Iroh: There was nothing left for me to bring back
Ozai: ...
Iroh: ....
Everyone Else: yeah that tracks
I only come here for Sheera's laugh. Top tier
Got that clown laugh fr
Perfect timing! just finished rolling up.
Time to spark up with you
That’s why Iroh is called The Dragon of The West!!
“He’s not used to getting roasted” yea his dad roasted him once and that was it
Zuko’s just not used to getting roasted by people other than his father lmao
Fun fact: Dragon Ball Z Fusion dance did play a role in the Dancing Dragon moves
Zuko is a Targaryan, the father of dragons, and the breaker of chains.
Nah Zuko is zuko,Game of thrones is trash
“What happened to his fire?!”
Me: don’t worry Sheera will figure it out per usual 😂
Its funny how this goes back to Iroh's first lesson with zuko.
Firebending comes from the breath.
Red and blue dragons represented the struggle between good and evil in past episodes (Iroh and Azula in Zuko's nightmare, Roku's dragon and Sozin's dragon) so I always loved that the red dragon aligned with Zuko during the dance, symbolizing that he had finally chosen the side of good
Zuko’s gotten roasted, but he hasn’t been picked on before.
Yea wat the gaang was doing here is just being petty towards him because they still didn't like him
Sheera with the early insight. She's constantly on the money with what this show is trying to do
Goosebumps for the last few minutes of this episode every time. The chanting buildup and then the music and visuals as they dance for Ran and Sha is beautiful.
5:00 love how she's always right
About the music, the drums that start when they get to the top are the end credits theme. Actually, I'm pretty sure it plays whenever Zuko was fighting since the first season.
Actually, Azula's drive is to be perfect, and since the strength of her fire has to match her drive, it therefore makes her firebending perfect.(blue fire is hotter than orange fire)
I laughed a lot when the dude on the right was speaking for the circling dragons and said "Yo, they just did the dance, that shit was lit."
Iroh was the episode's MVP even without a single screen time. woah.
Is no one going to talk about the fact that the Sun Warriors' music to summon the dragons is literally the end credits music from every episode?
Finally I've been waiting for this fire ass upload
Definitely one of the best episodes 🔥👌🏾
Was Just waiting for them to see Aang and zuko performing the dragon dance synchronously with the Dragons, dopest Scene in the entire Show
You know, when Zuko had the mental breakdown in Ba Sing Se, the evil voice in his head was Azula as a blue dragon, and the good voice was Iroh as the red dragon.
There's a theory that Sozin started the tradition of hunting dragons to prevent Aang from learning firebending from them.
I literally checked to see if you uploaded like 10 minutes ago and I was like, I feel like they will definitely upload today and as soon as i got back on youtube, there's the upload ready and waiting for me! Thanks guys!!
Hands down favourite episode!! 🔥🔥
For me, it used to be Zuko Alone, but watching this episode again reduced me to tears, so I might have to reconsider.
Hana People say the Zuko life-changing field trips didn’t need to happen (except sokka) but i strongly disagree.
Just in this episode we learn about:
- How Toph learned to see
- How Zuko’s firebending would fuel, if not coming from rage
- The original benders
- That Iroh learned from the dragons
- What happened to the dragons
- The dragon egg
- What firebending truly is
- Why Zuko’s firebending was kinda weak before and why it gets so much better after this (This is a little more hidden but in “The Headband” we learn that fire nation have banned dancing so that means they never taught The Dancing Dragon.)
And probably a lot more i missed out on! Amazing episode!
Y'know, that's really telling of the Fire Nation.
This ancient Sun-Warrior form of fire bending is called the Dancing Dragon, and nowadays the Fire Nation won't even allow dancing of ANY kind in school.
That's just so sad...
"You Fool!"
(with Excalibur from Soul Eater)
That caught me off guard. HAHAHA
@@mikelhardy7120 Worth mentioning but there is Soul Eater NOT! that takes place before Soul Eater.
The chills when they do the Dancing Dragon with the masters...
They skipped it but right after Aang said Zuko was smart he looked at us the viewer
That was a magnificent episode!! I almost always tear up once the dragons come out, also with the idea that the rainbow fire binded Aang and Zuko together, and cleansed Zuko in a way too
“He’s not used to being roasted”
Zuko’s scar: am I a joke to you?
10:51 never thought of it but now I get what their philosophy is he’s saying that with a lack of drive you have no firebending but with to much ambition and drive you can take things to far
One of the best episodes in the series imo
14:14 the happiness in his eyes
Sometimes I wonder if Sheera is a female reincarnation of Light Yagami or something.
I think this is the earliest I’ve been at a YaBoyRoshi video
that outro music with the visuals of the Aang and Zuko learning real firebending from dragons...chills, man.
Fun fact: Azula's fire is powered by hatred and because she has so much hatred that's why her fire is blue (very hot fire!)
is actually either self hatred or sociopathic tendencies that drive her fire to be that strong and precise. plus shes probably the actual child of the prophecy who benefits from sozin+roku;s bloodlines
@@hiroprotagonitis That's even cooler than it being powered by her pure hatred and it goes with well her personality
the "You fool!" Excalibur was amazing haha LOVE YOUR REACTIONS!!
14:45 „what is this magically delicious a** sh*t“
Yeah these flames are really fabulous max
(Anyone who knows the reference gets a cookie)^^
I love it when Sheera Laughs
Her laugh is unique
And it also love it when you make her head bigger
“He’s not use to getting roasted”
Looks at scar* huh
watching this again makes me so sad lol i miss this so much
16:52 i’m pretty sure he’s already used to it...
Ikr
I’m done😂😂. I get the joke
This episode will always be my favorite in the whole series. I can't explain it. I just get chills and start crying when the dragons pass their judgement.
What if Zuko said, "Hello, Zuko here." To the Sun Chief lol
"What is this magically delicious ass shit?"
My favourite quote from the video which caused my to choke on my own damn spit..
Would you look at that Zuko gave Aang his life changing adventure.
HOLY SHIT YESSS!!!! I can't tell you guys how much I love your reactions to the series and how excited I get everytime I see you guys uploaded a new vid!
14:42 Zuko's scar switched sides.
THE SCAR IS NOT ON THE WRONG SIDE
@@FreshZCORD in that shot the scar is on his right eye when it’s supposed to be on his left. Why do people act confidently when they’re dead ass wrong smh
