“my daughter is blind and tiny and fragile and helpless”
“damnn all of that!?” 😂😂😂
Imagine if she wasnt....hahahahahahah
Were you not paying attention while she wiped the floor with half a dozen other Earth benders?
Waves blind and tiny
@@iruga7379I feel like she wouldn’t be as good.
HAHAHAHAHA WHEN HE SAID THAT I DAMNEAR CHOKED ON MY FUCKING WOWBAO. The funniest shiet I've heard in a while!
“The boulder feels conflicted.”
*literally 0.01 seconds later*
“ThE bOuLdErS oVeR hIs CoNfLiCtEdD fEeLiNgS”
lmao! facts
I quote that daily for no reason other than those are my favorite lines ever.
Gets me every time. lol.
Sokka: I can't see anything!
Toph: Oh no, what a nightmare.
...Sorry.
Sassy Toph is funny and will never get old for me
@darkChigo Toph actually says in later in the future when they're looking for something in the desert.
darkChigo “IM BLIND”
I love how toph is the one making the blind jokes her weakness is her greatest strengths
when someone asks for strong females in animation, show them toph
Bruh, show them literally half of the god damn cast, even Yue was a well kept princess and stepped up when she needed to, this show don't do wronn
@Kathrina *Mai
It's not only that, the show just handles her character really well. The writers literally make jokes about her blindness for the whole show but do it in away that shows that these humorous moments really only happen because people in the show just freaking forget that she is blind because she barely acts like she is. It's through those jokes that Toph feels real. The subject of her blindness is never shown off as a "Hey look we made a handicapped person a main character, we're so progressive" but as just a natural thing that is happening.
hell, this series is so good that you dont even need to separate female from male characters, all characters on the series are awsome
I always think of Full-metal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
Toph is my favorite character in the whole avatar series, she is best girl
Clap if you had a crush growing up watching this series.👏🏾
Edit: Mine is Toph
Preach!
Yeaaaa
mine is iroh, than second is zuko
Facts
Fun fact: WWE wrestler Mick Foley, also known as Mankind, voiced The Boulder.
And its cool to cause the Boulders design is based on The Rock...... Someone Mick Foley used to Wrestle against in WWF
They actually wanted The Rock to voice him but they couldn't get him
I came to the comments to see if someone already said this! Not diasppointed
I like how it was foley but he did a macho man impression as Homage
Damn that's actually awesome thx for the fun facts guys 👌💯 anymore ?
I love watching new people falling in love with Atla ☺️
edit: thanks for all the likes y’all
same it makes me so happy that it’s popular again haha loved this since i was younggg
Same man top 3 best animated series ever 🔥🔥🔥
Same. I especially love the moment they realized that “it’s not a kids show” 😂❤️
Yung sxma *best series ever. None of that animated stuff 😂. This is an amazing show in it’s own regard
Sina Brad lol normies
From this point on, the series becomes legendary
It was legendary since the first episode
"AIEEE HIS BACK" LMAOOO
That killed me😂😂😂😂😂
I was dead when I heard that
I laughed so hard I cried and had to pause
So, Toph was originally supposed to be this loud and big macho dude as opposed to the little blind girl we see here, but Bryke (Mike and Bryan) were eventually convinced by head writer Aaron Ehasz to go with this Toph and it was honestly a fantastic choice in the end! Despite the disability, Toph shows us just how capable and badass she still is and I love her for that.
The Boulder was also obviously based on Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) and Bryke intended to invite him to voice the character as well, but due to scheduling conflicts I believe, that wasn't possible. So instead, we got Mick Foley!
Also, Toph's earthbending is different from that of Hung Gar (which is the typical style for earthbenders in general). Her style is that of the Southern Praying Mantis, which is a close range style that focuses on the arms while keeping leg work to a minimum, using low and short range kicks. Practitioners strengthen the arms and keep them extended in order to reduce the recoil needed to gather energy for the next strike.
decisions like these by Aaron Ehasz is what the Legend of Korra was missing to stand on par with ATLA
Best decision theyve ever made
Haha, it's funny how you start seeing the same peeps when you've watched many ATLA and LOK reactions, i remember your username from somewhere, not sure if Blind Wave, Normies or both. Have fun watching :D
Aaron was also responsible for the personality of uncle Iroh, and he also put a stop to the love triangle bullshit Bryke wanted to hamfist in Atla by using their version of Toph (the macho dude being competition for Aang for Katara's affection...). Unfortunately we can see Bryke carried on with their terrible ideas on LoK
Aaron also made the decision to add zuko it's so sad he doesn't get the recognition like the other two. I know they're the creators but he was head writer most of our favorite moments are due to aaron ehasz
Enter Toph: The most savage character in this entire show.
This episode is nothing short of insane. When master benders flex their abilities, EVERYTHING just hits the freaking fan. Toph isn't as artsy as water masters, but they aren't supposed to be. They made her as artsy as she was to set her above all the others. Most Earth benders just chuck rocks and make walls. Bumi and Toph just go freaking INSANE with their movements. As environment changes, it switches who has more power between earth and water. But air and fire always have all the ammo they need. Definitely cool to think about it like that.
Fire needs oxygen to work
water is change by how the world change you
fire is change by how is change the world
air is constant moving independantly of the world
earth is absent of movement whatever the world throw at you.
it's some phylosophies the bender use to manipulate the element. there is a certain balance in it. but look how toph handle earth bending compare to the others. the others are rigids and stuck, they take the danger head on. toph can't do that by her blindness, so she had to listen. change per say how the danger presents itself that makes jer closer to water bender which show itself by the way she bends. more fluid.
unlimited971 I mean yeah but I don’t want to talk about the various styles til characters do the explanations for us. And that’s soon so I’ll hold off on that gushing.
@@ofimportance5458
i was gonna say it comes from the breath but if theres no oxygen i guess youre dead
15:07 - From this moment there's nothing more, but "Toph is Blind" jokes.
The best jokes
Lord Hypertron Universum that’s rough buddy :D
Well, it sounds like a sheet of paper.. but i guess you are referring to what's on the sheet of paper.
Yessir
Oh no what a nightmare ;)
This show is literally 15 years old and the animation is still this fire
I have watched ATLA since I was 13 and I continue to watch it; I have had it on the repeat season 1-3 for the past 3 month 3 times in the past three week after work.... I know the lines are coming and the changes and character transformations I and I still grow every time Zuko changes; I still melt when Toph Earth & metalbends for the first time, Aang break when Appa is lost, and shake in terror when Aang & Zuko meet the last dragons... just name it!... When Toph "Armors" up in the airships in the 2nd last eps... OMG. I am 27 years old and I will never stop.
think fate unlimited blade works
The writing still feels strong too. Good character development and dialogue in almost every episode.
So what?
@@user-co7st1tb5e
So, what has been improved since?
I absolutely LOST it, when lupa said "aeee, his back!" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😥
Lupa funny yo 😂
Yeah😂
THE REAL GOAT OF THE EARTH KINGDOM HAS ARRIVED.
Zuko is my favorite character of avatar but toph is my favorite BENDER, and this is only the start of the skills display of this girl
"THE REAL GOAT OF THE EARTH KINGDOM HAS ARRIVED." The Boulder!
@Kathrina Why not?
Interesting favorite character lol
@@tellyg47 better than toph for sure lol
@@tellyg47 That's rough buddy
The Avatars before Aang:
Yangchen: air nomad. Celebrated as the smartest avatar to have ever lived, as well as very devout to her duty. Her political manouvering was so well done, no one even considered war until Kyoshi, skippin' a whole avatar.
Kuruk: dude had no work to do. No one was fighting. He traveled the world, doing whatever. He did his duties, there just weren't any.
Kyoshi: big gurl be like 6~7 foot tall, livin' 230 years
Roku: Roku.
Yangchen like MLK and Kyoshi was on her malcolm x lol
Would've been great if we had a spinoff that focused on Kyoshi.
@@_IsrealPerez pfftt that's hilariously accurate
@@proxythefool i think there is. isnt there a comic on her story or sth?
Well actually about Kuruk.... He was the worst avatar out of all the ones we know of. Sure there was nothing to do but in the end, his lover got stolen by Koh the face stealer..... and when he had the chance to kill Koh, he didn't because his lover was trapped in Koh. Which means he failed to do either of these two things.
1) Put his lover out of her misery cause I can't imagine she's happy being trapped inside of a centipede monster spirit for the rest of eternity.
2) Find a way to free her.
So yeah, he's a failure.
The Boulder feels conflicted about taking a nap or not.
YaBoyYoshi: uploads
The Boulder is over his conflicted feelings and is ready to leave a like.
Nice!

"Ain't shit sweet, bring the money or we kill the kids"💀💀😭 I can't be the only one who saw that
Toph was my favorite character from this show, and i’m so happy to finally see this one released!!!!
Es algo hermoso ver la reacción de cuando conocen a Toph por primera vez
was? toph is and always will be the best girl ;)
I literally watched their reaction twice!
Right here is where Book 2 KICKS OFF and doesn’t let up until the Book 3 finale.
10:59 that translation had me weak from laughing 😭😂😂😭
same 😂😂😂
Kyoshi was 7'1", she was leadin the wrong warriors smh...
LMFAOOOOO IM SORRY but this is underrated
lol aww come on, she wanted to empower non-benders too!
I think Roku was like 6'1, Aang got pretty tall as an adult, Korra is jacked to the nines, Kuruk too like...is it just a requirement of the too either be hella buff or hella tall? It's never both one or the other 😅
I like how her dad sees what she’s capable of, and then assumes he can make her do ANYTHING.
This was one of the best eps in the series, cuz after this it gets better and better. Especially now that Toph can now give the smoke.
weird how toph is one of the few characters with a last name, yet is not weird for people to just call themselves by their name only, even the royal family of the fire nation don't have a last name attached to them
Giving a character a name is really complicated and giving a character a last name could be even harder (especially in stories like Avatar, where you need to consider things like ethnicity, culture, etc). Then, the only character who has a last name mentioned in the story is Toph, because it's REALLY needed to the plot to move forward.
They talk about some common names in the Fire Nation, they just never introduce them with those names. The joke about Lee being a common name, later exemplified by Ty Lee and the other Lee sisters.
Are there any other characters with a last name?
Edit: Never mind, Asami exists.
@@dfidalgo2 You totally forgot about the other prominent family, Fire. Mr. Wang Fire and Mrs. Sapphire Fire deserve better from you!
@@TheSpiritOfTheHero She doesn't. The Legend of Korra doesn't exist.
She is here, the goat, the queen, the goodness.
“My names toph cuz it sounds like tough and that’s just what I am”
The most accurate description of toph
Master Yu's Earth bending Academy is a spoof of the "McDojo's" that proliferate (especially the US.) Basically where you pay for your belt no matter your skill level.
This when ATLA becomes Legendary.
Lmaoooo the translation you guys did for the ransom note..I'm dying 😂😂😂
10:59
My future kids: Hey, Dad? Weve been inside for like 5 whole hours😤
Me getting 2020 flashbacks: 6:22
When I was a kid we had to stay inside for months! Don't tell me about your childish problems!
😂😂😂💀
The moment when Toph makes the Boulder do a split coupled with the reaction is just priceless
Her fighting style is so no nonsense, like no showy tricks she just gets things done 😉
This was the first episode to use the "Previously on Avatar ..." teaser heard in all subsequent episodes.
The song that plays during Master Yu's first conversation with Lao Beifong is "The Jasmine Flower", a traditional Chinese folk song. It is used later in the show as a theme for the Beifong family.
Toph calling Aang "The fancy dancer" foreshadows Aang's dancing skills seen in later episodes
In this episode, Toph calls Aang "Twinkle Toes". This later becomes her nickname for Aang.
One of the boys that Katara beats up has the same hairstyle as The Hippo. In the DVD commentary, the creators say this is because he is a fan.
Toph is sooooo badass. My favorite earth bender out of the whole series. The creators did a hell of a job of getting her an intro to the show. Loved the reactions. 🤙😎
All the animators in the show learned the basics of these moves. They were given martial arts lessons by the man who designed the styles; Sifu Kisu. (Toph's bending came from Sifu Manny)
Here's a video of Sifu Kisu demonstrating the 4 main types. There are no spoilers.

And Toph's style:

The 5 Marial Arts Styles Used in this show.
Fire - Northern Shoilin Kung Fu
Water - Tai Chi
Air - Ba Gua Zhang
Earth - Hung Guar Kung Fu
Toph - Southern Praying Mantis (They created a style specifically for her alone.)
You guys should react to Avatar the Last Airbender- Creating The Legend- Bending. The master they hired to choreograph the fights explains how each nation's fighting techniques are based on real life Kung Fu styles. It's amazing.
"this is a simple cartoon"
Us: wow really...? simple cartoon? Okay
this episode: I'm about to ruin this man's career
Great reaction guys really loved it
It IS a simple cartoon. Simple =/= bad or unnuanced. Its a brilliant show. but most of the episode stories are very simple. The overarching story has some amazing twists and turns, but the stories in single episodes are mostly very simple, especially earlier on in the series.
@@mistrants2745 I wouldn't call it simple really tho, the characters are layered, the story is very tightly written, the pacing is really good, there are some twists here and there. The first season is the most simple tho so it's an understandable opinion
@@isaiascanete6651 all true. But the individual stories? Pretty simple tbh... Like what they said, Bumi being Bumi? Anyone can see that coming. Both tribes in the divide being in the wrong and having brought food? Duh. The earth general attacking Aang to force the avatar state? Not clear from the start, but COMPLETELY obvious the moment Aang tries to give up...
Thats what they mean by 'simple'. Not the themes, not the overall story (though something can be said for that), not the characters or their development, but the invidivual episodic stories.
@@mistrants2745 I think your example was bad... I mean... You used the simplest episode story-line of the entire show (also the worst one)... Like... If you used next episode's story-line (or something like the majority of Avatar's good episodes), you would conclude it's really not simple...
@@dfidalgo2 yeah and most of those storylines would either be part of the overarching story, or be later on in the show than they are right now.
toph entered the room:
the beginning of blind jokes
11:03 is my favorite!!!
"She must be so scared..."
cuts to Toph...
"You think your so tough! I'll smack that grin off your face!" lol
Now that we've reached this point in the series, it's a great time to let you know that the earthbender in the opening sequence is actually Toph's original character design!
The Boulder is also inspired by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (a bit on the nose if you ask me)
11:24. It's funny that he mentioned the WWE Universe because the voice actor for " The Boulder" is "Mankind " ( Mick Foley).
He is a parody of the rock
@@richardblevins9878 lol yep
@@richardblevins9878 originally the rock would be the voice of the boulder but he was busy at the time so he sent them to mankind
13:22 that sequence was amazing and I love that they reacted like they did. It it soo well done!!!
Fun fact: The animators took martial arts classes to help them visualize the bending and fight scenes.
1:18
This is a little in depth, there's an entire story on avatar kiyoshi, but her living long wasn't because she was just big, she had a difficult early life and wasn't known as the avatar until 16, that made her strong. Plus Kiyoshi might have learned the secret to immortality, which extended her life for a long ass time.
Ehh, the commentaries establish that many of the Avatars had exceedingly long lives. Aang for example, had a biological age of 66 but the creators said if he wasn't stuck in the iceberg he would have died at 178 years.
Also, canon establishes that children are told at age 16 that they are Avatars.
@@Geminias But Kyoshi lived 230 something years before she died, double that of the ages of past Avatars before her (& even with her future reincarnations). That's why she was noted as the longest living Avatar.
All the avatars are told at 16 that they are the avatar, she was not out of the ordinary. The only reason Aang knew earlier is because the monks were worried about the war.
Matuse right but in Kyoshi’s case, they though someone else was the Avatar (who was her friend) and spent ages doting over him until they realised they were mistaken and she’d had basically no training (and a bunch of other crazy shit involving Kuruk’s old friends happens immediately after that)
yesss toph and zuko and iroh are my favorite characters from the show
I feel like Lupa is gonna go back to CAPTAIN PLANEEEET! for season 3.
If he doesn't I'll be mad cuz that shits funny asf
The Goat is finally here. Toph 🐐
The season finale's gonna flip their mind when they sees her in a box
As in; you could /totally/ stand to mention it more! 😂
At last the real start of Book of Toph begins, enjoy guys.
Toph, has entered the fray. I love Toph’s character so much 💚💚💚
I dunno how else to say this, but when I first watched Avatar I was by myself and loved it. Watching it with you guys hits a whole lot differently, I'm so animated in my seat glued to the screen mirroring you guys, smile plastered on my face. This episode was amazing.
Toph is one of the best characters in this show
For me she is, with Iroh for close second
Aang: We need to help Toph.
Toph: I'll bury you all and dance on your graves.
Sokka: She's got it.
Fun fact: Mic Foley from wwe voiced The Boulder.
I can already tell you guys are gonna love the blind jokes in the show from now on
“Ain’t shit sweet, bring the cash or we’ll the kids”💀😂
I love the bit where she floods the area with debris. The dust cloud poses no disadvantage for her but her opponents are all reliant on their sight.
Fire Nation Man is a reference to wrestling's tradition of ersatz "bad guys" (referred to in professional wrestling slang as "Heels"). During the Cold War, many of these "bad guys" were supposedly from Russia but were actually Americans putting on accents. Fire Nation Man's accent was notably Russian.
Sokka's behavior during the match is a reference to the stereotypical pro wrestling fan.
Katara commenting, "This is just going to be a bunch of guys chucking rocks at each other", parallels the stereotypical friend who is forced to go to a sporting match.
The Earth Rumble Championship Belt is similar to the WWE Championship Belt.
The raised fist logo for Earth Rumble VI, while very similar to a Socialist emblem, is also a more subtle reference to the steel fist that used to be the iconic piece in the stage set of WWE SmackDown for a number of years.
"These were probably the best fights shown"
aaaAAAAAAHHHH it's too soon to say that...
Sol_ninja assassin Which fight’s your favorite??
@@ESPHMacD crossroads of destiny fight, last agni kai, every combustionman, kataravhama
Sol_ninja assassin Nice! I always go back to the last Agni Kai.
Can’t wait for you guys to looove tf out of toph
What I appreciate the most about Toph’s introductory episode is they wait to make the blind jokes until after they establish badass she is.
11:47 I think what tops did is she crumbled the the rocks underneath them into sand, then when she broke the floor all the pressure exploded out
Toph is by far my favorite out of all of them.
Same
I'm dying 💀😂💀 at that damn note: Ain't shit sweet, bring the cash or we kill the kids! 😂😂😂😂😂
Love how her first move in the big battle is to blind everyone. They have the numbers, but what a poetic way of immediately flipping the odds in her favor.
4:05 I love how they got the joke before the punchline. That's the best feeling ever XD
I was waiting for y'all to get to this. Definitely one of my favorite episodes. When this 1st aired I was shook. But I was also afraid they jumped the shark by adding a new, and younger character. And I was completely wrong, Toph was the perfect addition.
I was waiting for them to watch this episode for a long time because I knew they were going to love the fight and as Toph she is the best fighter, but more is coming about her and more incredible fights ;)
i don't know his name but the guy with the glasses is so funny! He seems like the kind of person I'll like to chill with, I hope you guys never split and stop doing reactions.
I get chills every time she says "Wait! They're mine."
"My daughter is blind! She is blind and tiny and fragile and helpless! She could not help you!"
"Yes, I can."
Toph's dad was right about 2 things- she was blind and tiny, but not helpless and fragile. Toph is the best!
In case anyone is wondering, they are completely caught up to the show on patreon. If you guys didn't want to wait like I did
It’s been over ten years since I first watched avatar and still rewatch it a thousand times since but I like watching videos like this because it’s nice to see peoples reaction for the first time. It’s like I’m watching it for the first time too! 😊
12:16 "look at the animation"...that right there sums up this series.

Nah Toph washing those dudes was still a top 15 fight in the series
toph: I'm not in danger, I am the danger
"My daughter is blind, she is tiny, helpless and weak" Literally roasted his own child.

I love you guys so much! Thanks for giving me friends to watch the best shows with. Honestly really helps me forget my problems and have a good laugh with good people!! One love!!
Fun fact: Toph is voiced by the same voice actor that played Meng in the fortune teller episode, the little girl who had a crush on Aang
i mean.. lupasan is smart af. i like watching you guys realizing that your theory was right
The best character has finally come in the picture.
She is not the best character
i think this may be the most iconic fight/character intro in the whole show
The detail on this episode goes even further than you realize, actually. To show how different Toph is from every other earthbender, her stance and fighting style uses a whole separate martial art for reference.
The bending styles are each based on real-world martial arts. Water is Tai Chi, Fire is Northern Shaolin Kung Fu, Air is Baguazhang, and Earth is Hung Gar Kung Fu. Toph however, is specifically Southern Praying Mantis Kung Fu.
Me re-watching these reactions
This is def one of the outstanding episodes of the series!
"Toph" "Toph" "Yeah, her name is Toph". hahahahha
13:49 kills me every time XD lupasan knows the real priorities XD
