    Does any one out there know what the average response time is with all the traffic problems thay have. Just asking.

    • @dofaproductionstudios5991
      @dofaproductionstudios5991 4 года назад +3

      The FDNY average response time is 5 minutes. Sometimes could be 10 minutes in the heavy traffic areas.

      Really, boy with some of the traffic thay deal with that is such a great response time, I guess the second or should I say, second alarm response units, have more time because thay come a longer distance.

    Why don't they have remote control doors closers?

  • @michaelrief4424
    @michaelrief4424 4 года назад +3

    Why the heck don’t they blow the siren when they are leaving the Firehouse? It amazes me no end because when I was a kid fire trucks used to do this all the time as they rolled out. What are they afraid they might wake someone up.? I see this in numerous fire videos...they pull out with zero sirens like it’s some kind of a stealth operation.

    • @emt5330

      And also yes, noise complaints from nearby residents, who I can appreciate being very annoyed by it.

    • @GMan-yv8cb
      @GMan-yv8cb 2 года назад +2

      @Michael Rief:
      They have personnel outside stopping pedestrians and cars, they safely pull out, the FFs get on the rig, and as soon as they start rolling, the usually start w/siren.
      Keep in mind:
      - You DO NOT want to blow the siren / air horn inside!
      Besides deafening everybody, it also adds confusion- "Where is it? I don't see it! " 1 trip into the City, you'll understand!
      - The audibles aren't usually necessary just exiting quarters
      (see #1)
      - If they're not needed, yeah, don't piss-off the neighbors!
      (The FFs DO 'live there' too!)
      - TRUE FACT: (Although not really talked about too much) --
      Hearing Problems are VERY common in Emergency Responders!
      Those sirens are surprisingly loud INSIDE the vehicle ( FD, PD, EMS ) and these guys (and gals) are listening to it (sometimes) ALL DAY, EVERY DAY!!
      After 20, 30 years, their most common sentence is, " HUH?"

      Excellent reply and explanation. I grew up in small town Norwood Ohio (Cincinnati)l I hung out at the main firehouse for hours waiting for an alarm to drop.
      I will never forget the time the entire house went out and they had me close the manual doors after they rolled out.
      I always wanted to be a Fireman but I never got the opportunity. Maybe it’s best that it happened that way since I would probably be gone by now but I still pull over and get excited whenever a fire truck is passing me on the road.
