2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport vs 2023 Tacoma: Is The Turbo Engine and Interior Worth $10,000 More?

  • 👋 Today I check out two nearly identical spec Toyota Tacomas! Here is a brand new 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport finished in Supersonic Red alongside the 2023 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport finished in Barcelona Red. Both have a similar basic trim with the fabric interiors as well. LEt's talk about the new 4th generation Toyota Tacoma and how it truly stacks up next to the final year 3rd generation Tacoma. On the used market this 2023 Tacoma with 13,000 miles is going for $38,000 and this new 2024 Tacoma has an MSRP at $48,000. So for $10,000 more money is the new truck really worth it? Gone is the V6 engine from the Tacoma. We now have the 4 cylinder turbo. So do you think the new turbo engine will be as reliable and robust compared to the old school V6 in the old Tacoma lineup? I will say it drives so much nicer. Very peppy and lots of torque down low in the RPM range. The new 8 speed transmission is much better than the old 6 speed automatic and further helps the new 2024 Tacoma drive very nice. This truck gets up to speed quick and feels light on its toes. The interior has a lot of plastic on the 2024 Tacoma, but honestly not much different than the 2023 Tacoma. I do like the rigged vinyl on the doors and dash on the 3rd generation Tacoma. And the 4th generation Tacoma having plastic rear arm rests is definitely cheap. The new Tacoma you need to spend even more to have the power sliding rear glass and power driver seat. So yes they have taken some basic features away in the lower trim TRD Sport. But the 2024 Tacoma is nicer to sit it. I felt much more comfortable in the driver seat and really felt at home. The 3rd generation Tacoma, my legs felt a bit cramped and the seat wasn't as comfortable. So I think overall the new Tacoma is a great truck. It just does cost a lot more than the previous generation Tacoma was selling for. But as long as the new four cylinder turbo engine can be reliable and resale value remains strong, I think the new 2024 Tacoma is a worth while truck. I don't think you should just sell your older Tacoma for the heck of it and spend the money on the new one just because. But if you are looking for the newest Tacoma and a nice modern midsized truck, the Tacoma is a strong offering. The newest Ford Ranger, GM Colorado/Canyon and Nissan Frontier all offer some nice choices. The GM truck have offerings in the similar price range as the Tacoma. So it's decently competitive. However it probably is the most expensive midsized truck in this class option for option. But if the dependability and resale remain as good as the 3rd generation, then the 2024 Tacoma will be worth the increase in price.

Good Video! We have a 2023 & 2024 Off Road. I think the 2024 looks better, more chisled and muscular and my son agrees. So a few things this 2024 gets is a new engine which is more torque and get up and slightly better mileage, a much improved smooth 8 speed transmission, an improved ride and handling with new coil rear suspension and safety sense 3.0 which is in a different universe from the previous generation and you also get a deeper bed. These upgrades are worth the cost but if you don't want to pay them get a used model or a maverick since they are supposedly less cost. I will say the tech is much better and modern but the use of hard plastics is not a step in the right direction. Frontier wil likely go to a turbo and change up soon so get them while you can if Nissan is acceptable to you.
BTW was that a prius that passed you when you were trying to accelerate in the 3rd gen? 🤣 I love how the 3rd gen owners now say the truck isn't SLOW and the transmission doesn't gear hunt...🙄
