I bought mine when it came out. I’ve used it maybe 20 times max. It’s still pristine and runs fast. I love it and won’t be parting with it any time soon

I have had a Surface Pro 3 as my daily unit since they launched. The keyboard finally started breaking down, so I just switched to a Surface Pro 8. However, its battery life was horrible, and the screen colours looked off. So I am back to the Pro 3. It is a beast. And I just got a new keyboard
Great to hear the Pro 3 had been great bite really odd about the Pro 8. Did you try get it swapped as a faulty unit?
@@AldoJames Yes. i went through 3 of the Surface Pro 8's actually. i wonder if windows 11 is to blame? They all had the same issue
I picked up a few used Surface pro 3's for $25 a piece. My wife's job was retiring them from the field. Slapped Windows 10 on immediately. Wish they had more than 4gb of RAM, but they work really well. Perfect for everyday tasks.
😮😮 you got them for $25 each! That is such a great deal! Agree upgrade them to Win 10 and happy days! Of course, the more ram the better but for basic tasks, especially light web browsing 4GB should hum along happily IMO

Great video. I have a Surface Pro 3, it took a backseat to other systems over the years but I recently started using it again and have to say that I really love the Surface. It’s not the best tablet in the world, and it’s not the best laptop, but if you want a bit of both in one package, it’s a great device and something that I think is a very worthy contender to an iPad Pro. If I could have only one device and really wanted the function of both tablet and laptop, there’s no better choice in my opinion. The iPad Pro is fantastic but it’s still a tablet. Apple has done a fantastic job on the hardware and OS, but when it comes to getting office work done, the Surface is still the better choice IMHO.
For years I've been saying that it gives me the versatility that no other device can, I now use a Surface Pro X as my daily PC and think its absolutely amazing
i've tried to use an ipad pro. most frustrating thing i've ever done in my life, after trying to use an iphone. no comparison in my opinion.
Thanks! I'm going this for my 76 year old mom. I'm replacing her old Apple iPad 2. Think this will be perfect for her. She's not a heavy user. She just uses Facebook, RUclips, the clock , and calendar.
I wanted to get her something that easy to use but fits within our limited budget. I think the size will work for her because her eyesight isn't as good as when she was young.
She doesn't mind that it's an older model, all that matters is it works!

my touchscreen is gone. the connector to the alcantra keyboard is faulty now. so now my Pro 3 is pretty much a desktop mini, relying on bluetooth keyboard and mouse. i must say though, it is still powerful enough for excel, browsing and netflix stuff. the screen and pixels are still crisp to this day. so i must say, if you're not planning to go mobile, this "mini desktop" still looks amazingly impress sitting on a desk!
Sad to hear that the peripherals are starting to fail but really cool that you're still finding it useful and stylish after 7 years!
I use a Surface Pro 3 with i7 and 8 gb of RAM.. Runs fine, works with a Surface dock to a keyboard, mouse, big screen and a row of 2Tb USB disks. Works fine.

Yo I've had mine since 2015 these things are fast and reliable , built to last and I'm using it right now as I'm writing this comment. Only downside I could state is the fan noise when its hot. But use to it now
Awesome to hear that yours is still going strong after 6 years! Yea the fan noise would be my biggest complaint too, the newer ones are way quieter and some don't even have fans
I have an 8 gig model, runs Pop!_OS (Ubuntu flavour) super smooth! And the screen is so nice.

man I tried to install Linux on Surface Pro. Tried Ubuntu. CentOS. Always an issue and when I finally thought I got Ubuntu running, it got extremely hot to the point where I thought it would melt my machine lol and I just said enough I'm going back to Windows. How the heck did you get it to run right lol?
Shame it can't be updated to Win11. Mine still runs smooth as new with Win10 today (SP3-8GB/256GB)
There are ways you can upgrade but it's not officially supported by Microsoft.
Just upgraded my SP3. It’s actually pretty easy. Quick registry edit and then upgrade from USB.

I wouldn't get it. It gets super hot to the touch and the fan noises go overdrinking over the simplest tasks.

I have the same model with exactly the same specs. The thing runs fast enough today however only issue, It needs 8 not 4 GB Ram

I'm guessing it's probably some old stock that never got sold. Or the original owner got it as a gift and never opened it. You never know.

i just got 1 with i5 for 200 euro! for the price i think its an ok windows tablet:) also got one for 120 with i5 256gb 8gb ram but not working touchscreen and i will use it only with the dock like a standar pc for my woman surfing the net:)
Sounds like you got a good deal on both! unfortunate about the touchscreen but it's still a great PC for net surfing
All versions of pro 3 are SSD?
if you downgrade to 8.1 ou have better preformance across the board due to win10 been a ram, cpu and storage hog compared to 8.1 and 8.1 is disign for touch meaning its a better expirence over all even if 8.1 is out of support...

I am buying a surface 3 4gb ram 129gb ssd i need it for normal use only for school use or some using RUclips should i buy?
Depends on how good a deal it is, for basic work and youtube it should be good :)
I ordered one off eBay I am impatiently waiting for, mine is also the i5, but the 8gb ram with the 240gb SSD.
My last tablet before it died was the Chuwi Hi12 and it was painfully slow with the Intel Atom & the eMMC storage!
But it was still neat to own a tablet till I think the battery died completely on it... & my theory is the battery completes the circuit between the charger and the tablet...
This tablet will be more then powerful enough for what I do on the tablet, basically videos, simple games, and light web browsing.
My only concern is how long the battery will last on this now 7 year old tablet. The eBay seller confirmed its good for 3 hours & 24 mins on RUclips. So already less then half original battery life...
I looked up how to replace the battery..... & its possible..... But I really don't wanna attempt it!
The fact you got a little bit over 2 hours likely means its around the same as the one I am getting, RUclips is basically a step above idling after all for this i5.
Can't be blamed since the batteries are so old now! Even tho that one was technically new.
That will definitely be an upgrade from your Chuwi! I wouldn't recommend trying to change the battery in it haha If it gets close to two hours or three hours of youtube, it sounds like it's still doing okay! Congrats on the purchase and let me know how it goes when you get it :)

Do you need to upgrade or are you just wanting to upgrade? Thew New Surface Pro 8 could be a great option as it's a full redesign over since the Pro 3

saw the new surface pro, can't afford it, ended up looking for refurbished old models that i could abuse. i was thinking of getting sp4 since it's very cheap now, but for the 'abuse' part, i was worried that i will have the infamous flicker issue within days. i NEVER turn my laptops off and just push down the lid to make it sleep. Do you think the sp3 would last much longer for that kind of usage?
I think the concern about having it always on is the older components getting too much heat / overworking, just try get the latest device you can with your budget

Correct not officially as it doesn’t have a TPM and the processor isn’t supported. You can force it on but this isn’t officially supported

Ohhh that's a hard pick! I like to Pro 4 with the nicer screen, fanless M3 so you won't here any noise and of course the nicer keyboard but the though of more RAM is very tempting. If it were me and just for home use, I'd go Pro 4. Let me know what you get!

I used an i3 Pro 3 for a while it was really great, if it's for simple tasks I think it's still good :) you might want to get an external MicroSD card in the back for more storage thought :)

They're sold separate on all Surface Pro's as they come in different colours
