    I have a SP3, i5, 8GB, 256GB bought Sept 2014 :)
I genuinely enjoy using the device to this day, even though it struggles and thermal throttles sometimes, and I've also had quite a few issues.
I've bought 2 type covers since, because 1st type cover, after a year the trackpad wouldn't physically click anymore, second one I had connectivity issues.
I've had minor issues with Wi Fi connectivity before but they seem to have been partly addressed through firmware updates.
Microsoft have been super helpful when I contacted them for support, they replaced my original SP3 unit because my webcam stopped working after 1.5 years of buying.
Stand is still Ok, as stiff as day one, it flops around a bit, but it always stays in place. Battery is about ~4h, not good but for a device this age it's ok.
It's been my only pc since I started my computer science course and it's been a pleasure to work with. I love the screen, keyboard/touchpad, portability, and the build quality is awesome imo. I remotely access cloud instances due to my need of GPUs, but otherwise, it's been able to take everything I throw at it. I sometimes think of upgrading but it still serves me very well and it's one of the few devices I have an emotional connection with, because it's a really really nice product, and I love Windows.
I've just stumbled upon your channel, you have a new sub. Peace from Malta

For those who are considering buying the surface pro 3, I wouldn't think twice. I've owned mine since launch back when I was in high school, and it has more than served me well through college so far. Many of the problems mentioned in this video have not happened to me. For example, the kickstand on mine is still very sturdy throughout, and I use it every day. Also, I haven't had persistent battery issues (software updates have always fixed any issues) and no wifi problems. Of course, I have the core i5 version, so performance is good for typical college student tasks while having 10 different windows and 20 tabs open, haha! I never use it for gaming, but for that I'd recommend something else. The only problems that I've had are with the pen, but again those seem to resolve with software updates. All in all, I recommend this laptop (at least the core i5 version) to people. The only downside to it is really the fact that it doesn't have a hinge. You really do have to be careful so that the kickstand doesn't fall off the edge of a desk, and thankfully that has yet to happen to me. I'd also recommend getting the surface pro 4 type cover with it in a dark color to avoid stains. The track pad in the 4's type cover is better too; I still have the 3's typecover, so I thought I'd give a recommendation. Again, I really recommend this laptop. It has and continues to serve me really well.

I have the i5-version with 128 GB SSD and 4 GB RAM. I bought it used a few months ago and it cost me (with type cover, pen, arc mouse and bag) around 310€, which is around 340$. I soon replaced the Surface Pro 3 Type Cover with a used Pro 4 Type Cover, which in my opinion is much better (paid 20€ [22$] for it).
I really love how thin the device is. My version is really fast and it's totally okay for normal usage (Surfing, Netflix, Office).
The big downside is the battery life. In energy saving mode I get maximum like 4-5 hours of battery life. It's really not good, but it's okay. The other bad thing is that it's gets hot pretty fast under heavy load.
It's a device with pro's and con's, but if you only use it for normal stuff and you want a lightweight device, then it's totally fine.

My job was selling off their old laptops, I wound up buying one of these for $100 bucks, the model I bought was treated with care and it's in great shape, the battery life isn't great after 4 years but if you're just checking emails and light web surfing it can go an entire day on a charge. I've had mine for a couple weeks now and I'm pleased.

FYI, I have the Surface Pro 3, Core i5 with 128GB storage, and I never firm press the left side of my track pad. I only firm press the right side (right mouse click) when using the track pad. But, most of the time I use the Microsoft Bluetooth mouse connected, which works flawlessly, so I don't even need to use the track pad. As for the kickstand, mine still works the same as the day I bought it, with no hinge degradation. Have you taken yours to the Microsoft store and asked them to tighten the hinges? It really sounds to me like you got a really bad unit. I use my Pixel 3 XL's Hot Spot all the time and I have absolutely no issue charging both my Surface Pro 3 and my Pixel 3 XL using the USB charging port on the Surface Charging block. I use a USB A-to-USB-C converter and plug my USC-C charging cable to the block and my Pixel 3 XL and it shows "Charging" on the Pixel 3 XL. Granted, it won't do fast-charging, because there isn't enough power, but it will charge my phone. I have never had an issue with WiFI on my Surface Pro 3. I have used it to connect to 2.5GHz and 5.0GHz WiFi signals and have never experienced any disconnects, stutters, etc. Again, you must have received a very bad device. The only other reason I could see for your issues (compared to my lack of issues) is the fact that you have the cheaper Core i3 processor which has different hardware internals. I would never recommend ANY device with less than a Core i5 processor, not even a laptop. This may also be why you can't play 3D games, while I have no issue playing 3D games on my Surface Pro 3.

The power brick is able to charge mobile phone and the surface at the same time. However I think that USB port only allows super old mobile phone (one that takes 500mA or much less), anything newer would just make the power brick go mad.

My Surface still does most of what I want out of a super portable device like this. I used it for work, mostly IT type stuff. Playing ROMS on my Surface Pro 3 is great. I use a wireless Xbox 360 controller. I can also play indie games from Steam. My complaints; heat, fan noise and battery life when playing games. I do not regret buying it. Edit: I normally connect to a wired 1gb internet connection.

You can clean the keyboard. Like anything. It looks good after a clean. My pen has only had 2 batteries new in 4 & half years and works great. The way not to loose it is to get a bag with a pen holder. You bought the lowest performance version and make performance concerns based on that? Get the I7 if you want performance. With the power supply you can run the Surface and charge phone at the same time? I think you have a stuffed power supply, or power source. Wi-Fi works fine now. there were some early issues in the first year. Agree with the battery. Mine's down to about 4 hours now. Not Bad in over 4 years.

In Australia I got my Surface Pro new in April 2015. i5 gig RAM, 256 gig storage. First new replacement September 2015. Second replacement March 2016 and given an upgraded keyboard. Last week July 2019 it died.
Microsoft office said it was not revivable. It was likely to cost around $800 to repair. It was 6 months out of extended warranty.
So... I loved the design concept, screen resolution and overall performance. Also the cool Arc mouse... HOWEVER
The kickstand would cut into your leg if you were wearing shorts. It would collapse or slip off your lap and drop on the floor. On a glass table it would slide around. I liked the keyboard touch /operation. The blue keyboard developed dead skin/oil stains around the touch pad. Rear of keyboard got dirty and hard to clean. Hinge became really market. Only modest use level.
    It had some functional foibles...
So did I replace the Surface Pro with a new one? NOPE...
    Bought a Dell XPS 13"

Surface like all M$ hardware is like a duck: he sing, fly, summing and walk, but can’t make nothing right.
