      You dont need wipers above 80 knots anyways the rain drops don't stay on the windshield...

      I wonder if they use RainX?
      Works wonderfully.
      I could drive my 18-wheeler with no wipers in heavy rain and see well.

      Yeah I agree. RainX does the job very well but unfortunately doesn’t last too long.

    This continues to be my favorite cockpit take off video of all time! I love the suspense in the night taxiing, running through checklists.. and then on take off the engines sound amazing! Climbing into IMC was also great. Makes me look forward to being a pilot. Hopefully I can be an A330 pilot too

    AWESOME!! THANKS FOR THE UPLOAD!! I remember, back in 2008, I flew on a USAirways (RIP) Boeing 767 (First Class) round trip from Philadelphia to my native country of Sweden. We had a 2-hour ground stop in Philly due to a severe thunderstorm. They had to close down a runway. Let me tell you, I was very happy that I was not working in the tower!! LOL!! What a mess! Airplanes had to backtrack down the runway, turn around and take off. However, after we had taken off and were climbing, we passed the thunderstorm that had hit us. All of a sudden, I saw a bolt of lightning from the very top of the cloud to the ground! GORGEOUS!! Great flight, despite the delay, and a great trip!! Again, Rest In Peace USAirways and we thank you for your service.

    Perfect example of the Newark loop SID off 22R for the Europe bound heavies. Quick Left 190 followed by a vectored right turn to pass the field tight to the right side and then on to the initial fix. Usually Merit or Greki. Great stuff. If your climb gradient isn't as good usually the hairdryer A340s they have them go 220 after the initial left turn for a few miles then loop them around to build up speed and altitude. They want you at least 6000ft or so abeam threshold of Runway 11 to be well clear of TEB and EWR 22L arrivals. Level off usually of 10K until 10NM north of LGA to stay under JFK arrivals on the LENDY STAR being vectored overhead. Crazy busy airspace.

      Exactly sir. Loved your comment. Thank you very much for it! Can you tell me if the Canarsie approach is granted often or declined when requested? I’d love to film that approach one day in our 333. have a great evening and thank you again for watching!

    • @ELcinegatto87
      @ELcinegatto87 5 лет назад +2

      @@dnhug my pleasure dnhug! Love your videos man, been watching them for years! To answer your question it really depends where you are coming from direction wise in JFK. Let's say for example on a typcial day with a mild wind from the south. JFK will land VOR22L and VOR13L (Canarsie) at the same time. Arrivals from the west and north get vectored for 13L in a loop overhead via the LENDY star and south arrivals come in on the CAMRN star. East arrivals virtually all transatlantic heavies coming in on the PARCH/ROBER arrival will be sent to 22L. For simple flow efficiency reasons. If you asked for 13L coming from the east it's highly unlikely they'd give it to you as they'd have to get you out of the easterly 22L flow and squeeze you into the 13L flow all while avoiding local smaller airport traffic like Republic and other VFR and potential interference with departures of 13R whose flightpath you'd have to cross to get into the 13L flow to join that loop from the northern and western arrivals. For these reasons it's highly unlikely. Best chance of getting it is on a day with a strong south east wind where JFK cant use 22L at all and has to use 13L/R for all arrivals and depart 13R as well as 22R for overflow. On a day like that you'll definitely get 13L Canarsie even the European and International flights coming from the east! So it's really the luck of the draw. In the Fall to Early Spring the predominant wind is actually a northern to northwestern wind. So the 31L and 31R operation will be in use 60% of the time. At Newark when there is a steady 15+ kts gusting 20+ kts wind from the Northwest. They will land on 29 and depart 22R. The Stadium approach to 29 at Newark is another really fun approach too. With a big headwind heavy jets stop in basically half the runway! And when it's really blowing 30-40+ kts they will even depart 29 at EWR too! Lots of interesting and unique combinations in NYC area. It's really just luck on the weather will be the day you are flying at the end of the day!

      I understand and hear you Sir. On the other hand, the mounted camera landings with steady clear shots sits on My channel with under 10K views (LAX Noseview landing B777), whilst this shaky video gathers hundreds of thousands of views. There’s much more steady stuff on my channel, this was an old one with poor equipment back in the days.

    Hi Dom thanks again for these really beautiful video's that you are producing of which I am an avid follower! one question for you, I know you use FSX and I believe the A320 if so have you ever flown into EVRA (Riga) using the LAPS6A.GUDIN approach to runway 18? I have bought the latest Aerosoft X A320/21 and Aviasoft EFB which uses a Navigragh database 1503 airac and it was a very weird approach and I had to take over because I was at 6k feet when I should have been at 2500 at the FAP. It was most likely my fault as I am not very experienced at flying SIDS and STARS (only just started to use them) and help would be appreciated. Thanks and best wishes to you and yours in 2015. Oops forgot to mention that the flight was all done in Managed Mode until I had to disconnect the AP due to being far to high for the approach. Regards Clive.

    V1 is the decision speed beyond which the pilot cannot abort the takeoff as it Is safer to takeoff and deal with any emergency rather than trying to stop.
    rotate is called by the other pilot when the aircraft reaches necessary speed for lift off.

    Can hear that hammering noise from those turbofans even in the cockpit. How do you boys fly with that kind of racket? I guess that's why they teach you guys
    1.1 Maximum Takeoff thrust (MTO); 1.2 Maximum Continuous thrust (MCT); 1.3 Maximum Climb thrust (MCL); 1.4 Maximum Cruise thrust (MCR). Can't over stress those hammering turbofans. Time for a better design. Even one blade off can be disastrous. It's been happening and now an A380 with over 500 aboard witnessed a missing turbofan and the complete cowling going caboom

    Great video! Quick question: At about 5:20 is the pilot manually turning the bleeds back on? Was a max performance t/o required for this? Or was there some other operational necessity? And I guess the Airbus doesn't automatically do it? Thanks!

    • @AeolusCapital
      @AeolusCapital 8 лет назад +1

      +Joshua Weinstein (runwaysandrails) Usually, these packs will indeed be turned off when higher performance from the engines is required. This is usually due to hot weather conditions, very high take-off weight, short runway, high airport elevation (-> low air density -> low available thrust) or even a combination of these effects.
      What the exact reason in this situation is, I do not know and hope @dnhug can help you with that. What could be, but not sure obviously, is that they wanted more available power just for a higher vertical speed, hence to climb faster and so escape these thunderstorms faster.

When I am traveling with a colleague or family member, I tell them to expect some instant turns as soon as we are airborne!

      Hey man, and thanks for the comment! We only have the 320 and 321NEO on order (delivery somewhen in 2019). I’ve heard from a friend at TAP and Finnair that the Cockpits are so similar that you only need a few days of training and sim and you’re more or less up to date. Fancy stuff indeed. Hope that clarifies, best regards,dominic

    Why dont the wiper blades move at the same speed and direction that seem horrible for multi
    million dollar airplane

    • @dnhug
      @dnhug  3 года назад +2

      Because they work independently from each other. If the commander wants them on, and the first officer doesn’t. No need to sync them.
      Cheers and merry Xmas mate.

    great video! but with all due respect can not anyone hand fly anymore? can not anyone actually fly in imc without autopilot? why would the a/p be engaged just after gear up?

    • @J.Stein1
      @J.Stein1 8 лет назад

      I agree With you. But With this weather conditions, it is better to let the Autopilot fly. During final app it is different on every Airline, e.g. Most of the lufthansa pilots disconnect the Autopilot AND the autothrust quite early.
      Some airlines in asia only disconnect the Autopilot just above minimums. Connect me pls If I am wrong.

    New Jerseys airports, what do you think about them

    • @dnhug
      @dnhug  8 лет назад

      +Kaushik Das i liked EWR, seemed a bit older fashioned design, also on the interior. Very heavy traffic, tiny apron and gates,but i like this, somwhat.What i cant get into my head is why (often in the US) the need is there to roll out carpet in a terminal. Its annoying if you have a wheel suitcase/crewbag imo.
      I szill like coming to the US once a while.are you from new jersey?

    Silly questions, but when they call rotate, what does the pilot do to actually make the plane go up, or point up rather.?

    • @darkknightk
      @darkknightk 9 лет назад +2

      @Tina2tu: when the pilot not flying the plane calls rotate, the pilot flying calls back rotate, and pulls back on the control wheel, causing the plane to lift off the runway. Until that point, the pilot flying the plane must keep the plane straight down the runway by steering with rudder pedals, using his/her feet! On the ground, the control wheel does nothing as far as steering, but once airborne, the control wheel comes into effect. Hope my answer helps!
