  • During our month long stay in Chiang Mai, Thailand (with Mandy's grandmother who came to visit us!) we spent an entire day observing and interacting with rescued elephants at Elephant Nature Park. Founded in 1996, Elephant Nature Park is a rescue and rehabilitation center for elephants, many of which were previously forced into tourism or illegal logging.
Be aware of the issues regarding elephant tourism, and always do your own research before choosing to visit any elephant park.
Find out more about Elephant Nature Park's initiative:

When a elephant look at you he never forget you. Feelings are strong and listen the noice. Smarter then human.

Thank you for this informative video. I’m glad you bring these abuses to our attention. But also glad these animals are now in good care.

Chris and Mandy, wonderful footage of as you termed them majestic and intelligent giants. Truly apt and correct description. So good to see that there is life for them to be well taken care of. It was reported in the media today that there are some 365,000 thousands of these majestic giants left on our earth. Hence I am so for the control of burgeoning population growth as it is this conflict that increasingly cause the demise of the other species and also social problems. Really enjoy your grandma's approach to life and living. Such great attitude and get up and go. Stay safe and looking forward when you are out of the lockdown or whatever you have in Georgia and more videos. Remember to use mask when you are out and about, no value or point in playing a dead hero.

Thank you, Hang! It was a great experience and opportunity to learn. I will tell Mamaw you said that. She'll be happy to hear how her personality comes through on RUclips :D Chris and I have actually been hunkered down in Vietnam during the pandemic. Much safer to stay put during these times :)

17:55 most likely it's sugar cane. elephants love them.
    additional fun facts:
there's a saying "an elephant never forgets"
they are one of few species that can recognize themselves in a mirror

      Ah, sugar cane! :D
Also, thanks for sharing the cool fact about elephant self-awareness with the mirror test. We previously learned that dogs and cats were not self-aware, and now it's a bit funny to watch them when there's a mirror in front of them 😆

    Very nice indeed your reportage.
In the midst of the myriad of other similar videos (BUT NOT IN THE SAME ELEPHANT SANCTUARIES, UNFORTUNATELY) your editing shows us in great detail and with such sweetness how LEK has been working with these magnificent creatures for decades.
    You've done a great job.
I would emphasize the remarkable habit that the boys have (kind of mahout ...?) of not using any sticks to accompany the elephants. Unfortunately, in other "sanctuaries" they still use sticks …., sometimes even bull-hooks ( maybe hidden behind the mahout's back).
And finally, I found your final explanation of the emotions that elephants express wonderful.
And also the further clarification that not all "sanctuaries" for elephants are like this.
One of best videovlog/reportage about “the new wave” of tourism respectful for ELEPHANTS.
    Bravo to both!!!

They pull the long hairs from their tails to make "lucky" bracelets, so don't buy these.
