Lady Aretha- THE QUEEN OF SOUL This 65 year-old white guy grew up listening to her. Always loved her music. It came from her heart. You’re reaction is R E S P E C T
If I had to make a forced choice, I'd say Chain Of Fools is my favorite Aretha song. It's almost impossible to choose, though - she's so, so... She's Aretha Franklin!
The Aretha Franklin well never runs dry. The songs are endless: Say A Little Prayer For You, Who's Zoomin Who, Freeway of Love, Jimmy Lee, Ever Changing Times ft Michael McDonald, Until You Come Back To Me, Rock Steady, Spanish Harlem, Bridge Over Troubled Water and You Make Me Feel Like(A Natural Woman)!
ARETHA: The tall one wants white bread, toast, dry, with nothing on it. MATT: Elwood! ARETHA: And the other one wants four whole fried chickens and a Coke. MATT: And Jake! Shit, the Blues Brothers!
James, She the Queen of Soul! Next for you "You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman", "Until You Come Back To Me"(Stevie Wonder wrote it), "Rock Steady" and "Spanish Harlem"
Spanish harlem, originally a Ben E KING track, both belong in a Soul collection,She was great later, although did not sell as well, but did some great tracks, worth hearing, and owning.Another cover version of Otis Reddings" Cant turn You Loose" years later, which powers along, with a more modern backing.Other knock out tunes,"BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER" & "NEVER LOVED A Man" both powerful, lay back and listen tracks,on the Gospel side "OH,MARY DON'T YOU WEEP" from a great later Gospel album.
Aretha was the Queen...she passed away in 2018. My favorite song of hers is Chain of Fools. To see a great later performance, her 2015 version of Carole King’s Natural Woman at the Kennedy Center Honors is AMAZING!! The Obamas were in the audience, and President Obama wiped a tear as she sang.
Known as The Queen of soul because of how she could sing all kinds of songs. She had so many hits that I like. Unfortunately we lost her recently. Think, You make me feel like a natural woman, Don't play that song for me are all great songs. She had many great hits in the 80's also like (freeway of love, Who's zoomin who, Another night) are just a few. Love listening to her
The great Roger Hawkins on drums, little David hood on bass and on some of Aretha's Muscle Shoals work, Duane Allman was on guitar. Aretha became a soul and r & b star with a white band@ she always thought that was funny. Rest in peace. Aretha. I'm so glad you were here to star in the movie, Muscle Shoals, before you passed away. You were very important in the growth of the Muscle Shoals SOUND.
I've been listening to this song for 54 years now, starting as a 14 year old dancing away to this and now it still gets this arthritic body moving. Love it!
We might have divas today and they sound great, but Aretha Franklin is hands down the best female singer of all time, IMO. I am not the only one who recognizes this, either.
And it's so much better to watch the Blues Brothers scene. While you're at it, just watch the whole movie. You should have been here in the 60s. We heard all this 50 years ago. But then you'd be old too.
😂 Aretha knew how to slap the extra soul in her covers of other artists songs and make brand new...Sam and Dave’s “Hold on I’m Coming “, Simon and Garfunkel’s “Bridge over Troubled Water”, the list goes on. Aretha brought the soul, period
The undisputed queen of soul. Check out “See Saw” and “Think.” They’re both super short; you could fold them both into a double play video. Also her soulful rendition of “You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman.” And from 20 years later, her “Freeway of Love” is awesome, too. Aretha is simply one of the most important artists ever.
I watched this delightful video immediately after your Simon and Garfunkel "Bridge Over Troubled Water" reaction. Now that you've heard the folk rock version, you must experience The Queen of Soul's interpretation! You must!
He should react to Aretha’s performance of Natural Woman at the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors. Aretha was in her 70s, but brought down the house and President Obama to tears. m.ruclips.net/video/XHsnZT7Z2yQ/видео.html. It’s only five years old, but is already a legendary performance. (As an aside, she was honoring Carole King who wrote the song and many other hits. King is the woman going nuts in the balcony.)
I was 13 years old the first time I heard this song. They had just started playing Motown music on my local radio station not long before this. Aretha inspired me in many ways. First of all she taught me that women deserved and could demand to be respected. She also inspired me as an artist because I wanted to be a singer. If you do a reaction to her song think try and get the one that is the movie clip I've heard performing it in The Blues Brothers movie has a lot of great music in it including The Marvelous Cab Calloway. You should check that one out as well. And well of course you can always react to the Blues Brothers that's another whole story.
"Don't Play That Song For Me" is one of my favorites by Aretha. Also, her interpretation of the song "Bridge Over Troubled Water", originally by Simon & Garfunkel. She was the undisputed Queen of Soul.
Oh, man. Aretha was the Queen and there was nobody like her. In her 70s she could still command a stage like she could in her 20s. I remember back in the late 90s, there was some big show where she was on stage along with three really popular singers of a younger generation - Beyoncé and two others who I can't even remember. This was after Beyoncé went solo, but before she had really made that big leap. But she kept trying to go out and solo, and Aretha kept basically nudging her back into the line, and everybody was like, girl, if you're on stage and Aretha is on stage, _you are singing backup._ She was that much of a great and that much of a force of nature. Just listen to everything she ever did; there isn't a dud in the box.
Oh and check out Rock Steady. Mmm mm can’t wait for your REACTION 😎Have loved Ms. Aretha since the mid 60’s 💝☮️. Love, love your reaction & you have to discover more of her incredible songs !! 😃. Also ‘Ain’t No Way’ is another amazing recording!
Aretha Live at the Kennedy Center Honors "Natural Woman". It is one of the finest performances EVER! It is the textbook for all performers who follow. RIP Aretha, the QUEEN of SOUL
Aretha Franklin is instantly recognisable for this song internationally. It is a bit sad you were not taught the rich history of music before now. All the best.
'66 thru '70 was the time of some of the greatest music ever recorded, and Aretha was one of maybe a dozen people right at the very heart of it all. Just start with her "I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You." The whole damn thing. Next, "Think" and "I Say a Little Prayer." Then, "Chain of Fools," Rock Steady," and "Young, Gifted and Black." Finally, all of the double "Amazing Grace" Gospel CD, just for yourself. Hearin it for the first time? You are one lucky young brutha.
If you think about when this came out, women were just really beginning to fight for equality in the modern sense... so this became an anthem... Just give me my propers when you get home.
If you ever want to see something blow your mind, check out the time they brought her in to pinch hit for italian opera singer Luciano Pavarotti. He got sick and at the last minute Aretha stepped up and said "I got this boo" and straight KILLED it. It's so good. Look up "Nessun Dorma" from the Grammys. It's SO GOOD.
You MUST, MUST, MUST hear her live version of Natural Woman at the Kennedy Center Honors for Carol King (who wrote the song for her). She blew the roof off the joint!!!
This song has been blowing people away for 50+ years and Arethas voice will be doing that for generations to come. Try "Freeway of Love" video for your next Aretha. You also get The Big Man (Clarence Clemons) on sax!
"Where has this song been my whole life?!" Exactly! lmao Your reactions are priceless. Hard to pick an Aretha fav, R.E.S.P.E.C.T is definitely up there with "I Never Loved A Man", "Rock Steady" and "Natural Woman" for me.
The one that played at the end there...I never loved a man the way I love you...I belt that one out in the car! Lol...that’s my #1 personal favourite of hers
"She had to spell it out for you!"
Best reaction ever. What a great moment.
It would have been if he hadn't stopped it in mid-stream. Sacrilege!

Aretha had a long list of hits. Once she filled in for Pavoratii and covered an opera song. It REALLY showcases her amazing voice. "Nessun Dorma".

You need to enjoy her scene in The Blues Brothers when she does Think. Classic.
AGREE! I still think about that. That was one of the best R&B performances to make it to the big screen in recent times.
That scene is genius on every level. The woman stole the show while wearing a stained waitress uniform and fuzzy slippers.
Took me less than 10 seconds to find it ruclips.net/video/Vet6AHmq3_s/видео.html

Rock Steady is a badass groove.

Aretha Franklin - (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman [1967]
as a white boy from North Dakota I was raised on this
I watched this delightful video immediately after your Simon and Garfunkel "Bridge Over Troubled Water" reaction. Now that you've heard the folk rock version, you must experience The Queen of Soul's interpretation! You must!

Be sure to get the version of "Think" from The Blues Brothers. The scene is hilarious, and Aretha just keeps modulating UP....

She gave an incredible performance of the song "Think" in the movie "The Blues Brothers" - one of the top moments in a movie full of top moments.

Listen to “Nessun Dorma “ an opera song Aretha Franklin sang! Truly the voice of an angel!
"Good to me as I'am to you" pure class fracturing a very young Eric Clapton on guitar ....
My fave Aretha song is "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man"
Gotta RESPECT Aretha.👍
She has a great part singing this in the Blues Brothers movie. Lots of other great music in it too.
That lady can sing! Mentioning Jim Croce again - You Don’t Mess Around with Jim, Working at the Car Wash Blues. So many others!!!
Her 60s music will always be her most requested, but I like her 80s songs "Freeway of love" and " who's zoomin' who" better.
One of the greatest songs in history!
