A little about me and this channel:
My name is James Aubrey IV and I just recently graduated college from Iowa State University. After college I decided to take a leap of faith. So I moved to San Diego California to pursue my passion for videography/ RUclips. Overall I'm a pretty chill person, outside of RUclips I like to longboard, dance, play video games, lift weights and hangout with my friends. I know that success on RUclips won't happen overnight but I'm willing to stay patient and put in the work to try to prefect my craft daily. This RUclips channel will be centered around my life after college. You will be able to see all of the ups and downs on my journey to success. So if you like the content make sure you subscribe so you can be apart of the Rome Life Family. (Let's build our own personal Rome's together.)
What is the Rome Life ? And What does it mean to be apart of it?
Rome Life is something I started during my Sophomore year of high school (one of the worst times in my life) it started off as me documenting my journey to recovery from my shoulder surgery but eventually it turned into a platform that I could use to encourage myself as well as others to chase our dreams.
Rome Life isn't just a saying it's a way of life and for the people who want to be apart of it have to realize that. Rome wasn't built in a day it took a lot of handwork time and most importantly patience. So you can't expect your dreams to be any different
This is a reaction video used to educated and give my feedback on the song and artist

It's me. Such an awesome song. Thanks again to my Dad for leading me into this awesomeness!
My ex and I taught this to our 2 yr old daughter on the way to the airport for a getaway in 1994. So our chubby white daughter is singing "She's a Brick House' at the top of her lungs as we walk thru the Salt Lake City airport on a weekend that is out of school. It was full of very disapproving families. We sang right along with her. We danced too.
With all the Mormons around, I can just imagine.
I saw these guys live back when this song was hot. Thirty thousand people dancing to it, all looking very happy. It was impressive
The old expression was "built like a brick shit-house" meaning well built, having a voluptuous figure.
Yep
Yeah, that's what he's talking about
@@garyking6519 And in my circle its still used. Thank God.
We get it. Right. Got it way back then. But thank you anyway.
@@edgallegos496 Yup mine too
Here's how to start a party, any time, any where. Put on this song and then Superfreak by Rick James, and within those two songs, you will have women on the dance floor, quickly followed by the dudes, and the evening can proceed from there. At least back in the day.
It’s true, though.
It doesn’t hurt to add Get Up Offa That Thing by James Brown to the mix!
@@TheDivayenta Another vote for Get Up Offa That Thing
It would probably still work just as well now!
you said it man. Don't forget Lady marmalade.
The Commodores got me dancing when this first came out in my teens…and even now at 58 it does the same thing…..only difference is I can now identify more with the line, “makes an old man wish for younger days”. 😂✌️👍🤦🏽
When I was young we used to say something is built like a brick shit house, meaning it's built well and made to last. That is what they mean here. The Commodores is of course, Lionel Ritchie's first band. Try them doing "Machine Gun" and "Night Shift" along with the great Lionel Ritchie songs which he did while with The Commodores, "Sail On", "Easy", "Lady", "Just To Be Close To You", "Three Times A Lady", and the incredible "Still".
Machine Gun is an awesome tune....love it!!
Don't forget All Night Long😉
I love "Just To Be Close To You"
@@MrCRayAnderson He didn't do that with The Commodores. For that I would have included "My Love", "You Are", "Penny Lover", "Ballerina Girl", "Hello", "Stuck On You", "Runnin' With The Night", "Dancing' On The Ceiling", "Endless Love", "Say You, Say Me""Truly", and "You Mean More To Me".
On this particular song Lionel Richie was not the lead singer. It was Walter "Clyde" Orange. As other Commodores songs for reaction I would suggest Nightshift, Easy, Three Times A Lady, and among my favorites Funky Situation.
We’ll still run to the dance floor, even today! Major classic! ✨✌️
Thank God I was born in the early '70s and heard all this great music all my life, Try the *Ohio Players* Love Rollercoaster.
Another vote for Love Roller Coaster by the Ohio Players
And Fire please
Great suggestion - expose yourself to some more quality soul dude...
Mr. Blutarsky...Zero-point-zero.
Holy crap yes! Ohio Players!
Here’s what I remember most about this song: The Bump. This is the quintessential bump dance tune👍😉😷
Oh man....I forgot about The Bump, David Cohen! It was as close to "twerking" as I ever got. Ha! Brings back good memories!
“Don’t want to bump no more with a big fat women.”
Wasn't that Lionel Richie singing Brick house?
@@brandy6214 was that Lionel Richie singing that Barbara. Wasn't he lead singer for the Commadors
She makes a older man wish for younger days! I always liked that line. Lol At my Junior dance we had a band play this live back in the 70's. They did a great job! Yes a brick house means a solid women!
My love of funk music began when I was a kid in the 70’s and 40 plus years later, I still love it. So many brilliant artists in this genre!
Commodores were AMAZING! So many incredible songs.
There's just something in the water In Alabama. It turned out hits galore!
Night Shift - Commodores
36 - 24 - 36 what a winning hand ! Dam straight great tune great band many hits keep going
Lol, I love watching you "younger" people doin reactions to older stuff like this when the realization hits you that us "old" parents, and grandparents, weren't quite as "lame" as y'all always thought we were. Lol...pretty cool. New sub, so keep em comin...
One more. You gotta check out the most outrageous funk band of em all: One band with two identities, P-Funk, made up of Parliament and Funkadelic. They performed separately from each other. When they were Parliament, they played more standard r&b/funk songs, performing in more customary costumes of the time. When they were Funkadelic, they did some of the wildest titles imaginable in styles that ranged from hard-core funk to psychedelic, and their performances were spectacles of wild music and noise, visual effects and devices, crazed people wandering around the stage in diapers and mad costumes without having any obvious musical role, necessarily, and a seriously trippy connection between the audience and the band. You should listen to "One Nation Under a Groove" and "Maggot Brain." The new Smithsonian Museum of African-American History and Culture did a major exhibition related to Funkadelic, in which they displayed the original model of the Mother Ship, a space ship that lowered onto the stage and from which the band's leader George Clinton emerged in full costume to among smoke to start a concert.
He need to react to flashlight by P funk
Another vote for listening to something by Parliament Funkadelic
Bootsy just released a new album worth checking out!
Yep ❤️❤️
Ya gotta do Parliament; because We Want the Funk - Give up the Funk, We Need the Funk - Gotta Have That Funk!
Take Your Time Do it Right - S.O.S. Band
when the power of Funk consumes you, it's like being possessed. you can't help but give in and move
Absolute truth!! 🤙🏻
I roller-skated (metal wheels and all) to this back in the day.
I remember this from are roller rink.😀🇨🇦
Skating rink for sure!! ✨
Wow. I had the rubber wheels…🤣
@@kanteannightmare Officially, they were polyurethane. I had a pair of blue suede Nike high tops bolted to a skate frame and was all over the rink when Brick House came on.
I think of about a 3/4s of a decade of truly great roller skating music during that era. 75 through about 82.
Check out the B-52s .. Love Shack... you'll dig it:)
Rock Lobster...
Another vote for Love Shack by the B52s
Gotta add another vote for Love Shack by the B-52s...
Yes, add my vote for Love Shack too!
"Strawberry Letter #22", by The Brothers Johnson.
Also Stomp
Or Stomp!!
Yes.
Even better, I'll be good to you.
Truth here
Lionel Richie got his start with this band playing Piano, Sax and of course singing. This is one the best songs ever.
Suggestions
Chicago - 25 or 6 to 4 and/or Make me smile. Terry Kath IMHO 2nd best guitarist ever.
Yes - Roundabout i promise you its like nothing you have ever heard and your head will explode.
Jethro Tull - Locomotive Breath again something you never heard anything like it.
YES to all of the above
The Gap Band! Party Train,You Dropped a Bomb on Me, Oops Upside your Head, Burn Rubber on Me
"That lady's stacked and that's a fact"
"Who's that Lady" by the Isley Brothers
Gotta Do Easy Like Sunday Morning From The Lionel Era Of The Commodores
Another vote for Easy Like Sunday Morning by Lionel Richie
My favorite song of all the is Easy
“LOVE ROLLERCOASTER”
The Ohio Players-
Calling my shot on this one.
A Brick House is a voluptuous woman with the body measurements of
36 inches in the Breast 24 waist and 36 inches in the hips. Listen to how he describes her. Hot body!
Fun fact- my kids used to think she was saying: she’s at rick’s house. 🤷🏽♀️😂🤘🏼 much love!
That made me laugh so hard that I may sing it that way from now on. 😆
@@sarasmile11 I think I will too! 😆
This reminds me of how my whole childhood I thought the song, "doin' the butt" was "do it in the butt". I remember marveling at how the song was played in the mainstream and even at my prom with all of the old lady teachers dancing to it and I felt like I was in a parallel dimension where all taboos have ceased.
Hahahahaha!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Rick Astley's? He's never gonna give her up!
Yes, you are correct. If you like try the song "Easy"
YES! YES! This Song Is AWESOME....Great Choice!!! My fave Commodores tune :-)
This song just puts a smile on your face and want to start dancing!!
The Commodores three best songs, hands down: Fancy Dancer, Slippery When Wet and Too Hot To Trot! Alabama Funk at its nastiest!
They came from right down the road from my town. Tuskegee is10-15 miles South.
I love your reactions! You are so right...I remember dancing the New Year in to this in a loop at the club and it kept going for another hour! I lost my fucking shoes somewhere between midnight and 1:00 am 1976!! BAM!
Brick House is a body so tight and stacked just right you can't even bulldoze your way past it! Indestructable fineness
This is such an ICONIC tune...this is fire! 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 What a great treat to see you listen to this for the first time. I know what it did to me the first time...I just wanted to jump! 😂
"She's a brick...... House!
Yeah, Brick House is one of those songs that you hear one time and it's in your head for the rest of your life. It come on the radio and you go, "Brick House!!!"
"Nightshift" Commodores, also "Easy"
Rick James... super freak!!!!!! Ohhh yeah!!!
Car Wash by Rose Royce
Another vote for Car Wash a nice disco tune
"Why do I feel like this?" - love this
Brick house.....she’s built and got it going on and she knows it. 👍
This gem has the equivalent of three all-star lyrical riffs with 'Brick... HOUSE', 'she's mighty mighteh' and shakitdown shakitdownnow'. Stuff that stands the test of time.
Alright! Yesss! The Legendary Commodores! This was the jam back in the day. #70sforever ❤
Commodores always got something for any mood. You loved this so you would definitely enjoy "Lady (You Bring Me Up)." There's also "Nightshift", which is a tribute song, but the best tribute song you'll ever hear in your life. Just fantastic and celebratory.
You absolutely had it right on what he was saying. Lionel Richie is an unbelievable writer and artist.. He wrote Lady that he had Kenny Roger's record and blow the charts up.
One of my bosses retired, but his name was Dr. Brickhouse and you know the hook through my head all the time with "she's a" replaced by "doctor"
I would be the patient who sang that to him every time I saw him. He’d hate me. 😂
She's built 36-24-36 like a brick house. She's got the right shape. Perfect
Haven't heard this tune in decades, loved it. She's Mighty Mighty.
Thanks, James! Isn’t this fantastic? Lionel Ritchie!!!! They all met as freshmen at the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. This was the hottest dance record of the year in ‘77? Even figure skater Kurt Browning killed it to this in the Olympics! It’s on YT!
I think you’d funk out to some Ohio Players, too- Skin Tight is a good one.
That's Tuskegee ALABAMA.
@@kenperk9854 thanks!
I saw kurt browning skate to this live. It was amazing.
@@tiana2 that was a moment!
I saw their concert in 1978. We danced non-stop.
"Still" by the Commodores. Another one that will make you cry. :)
"Sail On" by the Commodores is beautiful/sad. It will make you cry.
Oh man!!!!! Thank you for playing this!!!! One of my absolute favs of The Commodores. They were awesome!!! In the 70's this was major dancing music. Watch Soul Train for some dancing moves for this one.
You best believe we old-schoolers were tearing it up on the dance floor back in the day to Brick House. Heh,heh.
Having listened to this hundreds of times since it released in 1977, I can tell you, it feels that way every time. Legendary and necessary.
We burnt up the disco floors with this one back in the day! Lordy...such great memories!
Heard this song in '82 but this was first time watching the video. Never could play this without the entire neighborhood listening along
I love it how you change from being cerebral and wordy to ultimate joy!!!!!!!!!!!! 🧱 🧱 🧱 🏠 🏡 🏠
bringing smiles to the face of this old 57 ford. thank you
Grew up on the Commodores, Motown and 70’s rock. I was born end of 1968 and my parents were still teenagers and loved to play music and dance so I heard this a lot as a kid!
Back in the late 1970's to early 80's, this was the #1 most listened to song among all soul brothers. A very popular song for anyone at that time.
Great reaction! LoL This is where Linol Ritchie kicked off his fame and fortune.
Lionel Ritchie with or without the commodores is so talented. First time i heard this song i was at magic mountain. 1977, i was 18 years old. I already loved the commodores.....
What a great reaction. Ty.
1977 was a great year in dance funk. I remember skating to this at the roller rink AND dancing to this in HS in the very early 80s. It was played at every dance until I graduated in '83.
A brick house is a perfectly built woman! If you loved Disco, you were dancing to every song they played.
My absolutely favorite song by this band ❤ 💕 💗 💖 💗
In order to really appreciate this you’ll need some platform shoes, baggies, and a paisley shirt. Maybe a big Afro or some Gerry- curls. These dudes were funky
Guaranteed to get everyone on the dance floor!
I saw Lionel 2 years ago. He wore the red "Hello" bomber jacket, and it was a massive sing-along. The guy's an entertainer.
Commodores - one of the first concerts I went to in 1981. So so good!!!!
U know we were jamin to that back n the day!😂❤❤❤ Lionel can write ! & they can play! Built like an Amazon.
Check "Slippery When Wet" by the Commodores. Their earlier funk.
Also Too Hot Ta Trot
Yep ❤️
Such a great, fun song.
Nothing better than some Commodores! 💕💕
Any song that gets ya moving like that, can't be bad. Brick House only means she's solid.
A brick house is a lady whose built, solid. This is a definite party song.
It’s my Junior High School dance all over again.... great memories!
I would hit the dance floor for this even today.
Lionel Ritchie and Commodores were a great band and this is a great dancing song.......
Extreme - More than words
Yeah, we did dance to this, but it was 1977, the disco and funk era; tons of hits were well danceable. I mean, imagine this song played after the funk group Brick's 1977 hit "Dusic" and followed by disco-funk group Heatwave's 1976 hit "Boogie Nights" and you'll get some idea of what it was like back then. Hell, yeah, we were dancing.
There were a number of years, probably 20 of them, that I couldn't go to a picnic, a company party, or a wedding reception, in which this wasn't played! Believe me, everyone dances to this one. You hit the nail on the head. If she was built like a brick (shit) house, she had everything!
Cracks me up how young folk are just discovering this kinda music😂This was everyday groove for the now older folks.
Lionel Richie - Love will find away, You are, Truly
Sail On and Zoom by them please.
Sail On is my fav. Great break up song
Love this album, played it LOUD at my dorm house.
I joined in on the chair dancing with you on that one! Brick House = Excellent Body (Amazon)
Everyone 🕺 girls ,dates or you just joined in you would turn around and dance with that person . No one expected anything but a good night dancing. Play Carwash 🔥
I can see a fine looking girl in college everytime I here this song. In a disco, she had a killer red dress. It was full length, but the right side came past her knee. Bottom edge was lightly ruffled. Deep v-cut to about an inch above her belly bottom, no sleeves. Man, she could dance! Man did I drool while dancing with her!!!
A brick house is a dime piece.
The Commodores are a great group. Lionel Richie was one of the leaders of the group. They had many hits. Night shift is a tribute song to both Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson who both were great musicians. Marvin is my favorite of all time
The artist I do not see getting ANYWHERE near the level of respect and reviews she deserves is
DONNA SUMMER-
Undisputed Queen of 70’s Disco.
Toss up between
“I Feel Love” the extended mix huge disco hit
And
“On The Radio” more of a pop ballad,
for a first listen
Anything from Donna Summer is fantastic 70’s vibe.
One of my absolute favorite songs. Lionel Ritchie did a duet wit Rob Zombie, on his cover of this, too.
#1 Dance song, you can play it 3 times in one night and the ladies will flood the floor.
Before indoor plumbing, (toilets, by the way, invented by Thomas Crapper) for centuries you had to shit in an "out house" Usually a pit with some minor covering for some privacy.
Hence, if you had a "brick out house" you were considered wealthy. "She's a Brick House"
The Commodores - "Easy"!!!!!!
Commodores easy, nightshift. You are right about what a brick house is.I saw them in concert minus Lionel and he really wasn't missed. A great show
There was an expression, back in the day, so they made a song out of it.
Urban Dictionary Definition: Brick House- Full-figured female. Really built.
"That chick is a brick house."
From an old phrase "built like a brick shithouse". Way back when, you wouldn't build an outhouse out of brick because it was just overkill. The phrase evolved to be used to describe a woman who was "built" amazingly. Or has a fantastic body.
