I have this camera plus the z6 and Z7. I think all these cameras are fantastic. I’ve shot Nikon dslrs for ten years and don’t miss a thing. Even the JPEGs from the z50 are fantastic. Even though there’s no image stabilization in body, these stabilized lenses are great. In fact the 50-250mm is producing better images than my 70-200mm f mount. These cameras get a lot of flack that isn’t warranted in my humble opinion.
I'm new to mirrorless, I've been shooting with my trusty D7200 and I just picked up a Z 50 & 16-50 lens. I'm loving this camera! I had a D750 on my wishlist, that has now changed to a Z 6.
Agree about Nikon. So many reviewers are in a spec war between systems and Nikon continues to get the short end of all of them. They are making solid and impressive systems, and interestingly, everyone that has a Z camera loves it.
Thanks, I have a question... I bought one nice and mint Z50 used on eBay and I agree with you. It is a nice little mirrorless camera. I love my Canon, but this Nikon has an easy menu, which I love. I cannot invest at this moment in lenses, so I bought a manual lens, the Z mount Meike 50mm 1.7. I am not used to manual focus, but focus peaking helps a lot. What about the Z mount FX lenses for this DX sensor? Do they work fine? I am thinking about a 50mm 1.8S for Z mount for the price, but also a 7artisans 60mm f2.8 macro, which comes for the Z mount and it is really cheap. I guess I would love macro photography with the Z50.
Hi Jaime, thanks for watching. I would recommend f Mount lenses if you want to save some cash, 50 1.8 is a fantastic lens as well. You have options, but don’t get caught up trying to save money on lenses and end up spending more if you know what I mean.
I’ve been really thinking about buying the Z 50 have watched almost every video I could find, and yours by far is my favourite video of them all. Thank you. I loved the explanations, the stories and the sample photographs. All in all a great review.
My honest opinion is that they're not doing all that much worse than the rest of the camera manufacturers, it's just that they aren't as diversified as all the rest. Panasonic and Sony are big tech and entertainment companies, Canon is big in office and business applications with its products, Fujifilm is a presence in medical etc. No, it seems to me that oldest of the Japanese camera manufacturers is also the one that is fundamentally tied to its core imaging business more than any other and so as the camera business goes so does Nikon. That's not to say they haven't been involved in other industries and I actually am far more bullish on their survival than obviously Olympus or say Pentax. I imagine that they will continue to make great cameras but as the interchangeable lens camera market contracts they will as well. But it is fascinating how much folks have piled on a such a storied company which continues on delivering beautifully made and well engineered products. But they're far from dead as well. Remember that with a fraction of the capital and overall size of their company when compared to any of their competitors they have managed to hold on to the number 2 position (after losing number 1 to canon with the introduction of the EF mount) worldwide in camera brands this whole time _ including moving from film to digital _ and this in spite of recently slipping into 3rd place in the U.S. market(their biggest). I truly believe as long as Nikon puts out a high quality camera there will always be enough people in the world to support their business even in if the overall market of ilc is shifting back towards what it was in the 1970s. But it sure would be nice to see them begin to get a fairer shake. Thanks for the content Cheers
I actually prefer the flip down screen. It better for vlogging, I hate the flip out and flip up displays, its hard to look directly into the lens and off to the side or top at the same time and its very noticeable.
Buying this, which Z-mount lenses to buy for r photoshoot- fashion photography and adapter? Also, can you do detailed 4k video review? This would be my second camera. Thank you for your honest review.
Hi another thing I was thinking about is what you said about cropping. I thought quite a lot before buying the Z50 rather than the Z6. I tend to use longer lenses most of the time so I thought if I took 2 photos of something with my 200-500 lens, one with the the Z6 and one with the Z50 from the same position I would need to crop the Z6 photo in post to get the same picture. Even though the Z6 has a higher resolution of around 24 megapixel after the crop I believe it would be around 15 megapixel which is less than the same photo from the Z50 so in an odd way the Z50 has a higher resolution than the Z6. Having bought the Z50 I have not regretted that decision. Obviously for landscape or general photography this doesn't count and I am sure a Z6 will replace my D7100 as soon as I have the funds but for telephoto photography it's like putting a teleconverter on your lens.
Hi Steve, you are right that the Z50 will give you that extra reach and why a number of photographers choose APS-C over full frame sometimes. Glad you are enjoying the camera!
Use your small rig plate that you already mentioned to move the tripod to the side and still use the flip down screen. Good review and I agree with your assessment of Nikon. Colors are my favorite!
@@TECH360TV Ahh! Makes sense. I've been using it here and it works well and the only good way to use the flip down screen. Always enjoy your presentation. Thanks
After your review of the tamron 35mm 1.4 and other positive reviews, i went out and bought it. That lens is everything claimed about it. Simply a great lens.
I upgraded from a D300 to the Z50, and the Z50 has not disappointed me at all. Just waiting for my FTZ adapter so I can use some of my older F Glass as well. The kit lenses went beyond my expectations.
Great review as always. I use the Olympus micro four thirds for travel, but I always smile when I go back to my Nikon f mount full frame when I can handle the weight - colours and image quality is amazing. Right now a bit too invested into Olympus lenses already to jump ship back to the Z system, but I would have definitely gone Z mount if it was around when I bought micro four thirds. Also no one can beat the ease and flexibility of the flash system of Nikon.
Thanks Kevin. Haven’t reviewed Olympus cameras yet. Planning to in the future though. Z Mount is really growing and impressed with each of their lenses.
You mentioned that full frame large aperture lenses bring this camera alive. Is that referring to adapted lens such as the Nikon FX 50mm 1.8 and Tamron 50mm VC and/or just Z lenses?
