Your review is awesome and stands out because of two things:
    1. You're the first person to mention the ability to shoot 30 fps by reducing the picture size. Not heard that in ANY other review
    2. You're the first person to mention the button on the left side above the screen
I watched all kinds of videos about this camera and wanna buy it with the two kit lenses. I've not heard much bad about the Z50 except the screen flipping down but i'm not a vlogger so, yeah.
Thank you for your awesome review!

@@TechGearTalk So I really did buy it yesterday and I'm blown away by the quality and functionality. I have to say though, I now upgraded from a Nikon D60 (yeah, no joke) so no matter what, a new camera would be a huge upgrade. But I like to think that it isn't the camera that makes good pictures, it's the person pressing the shutter button. Having lots of features helps getting the pic you want though. In a selfish way, I'd like you to make a video on using the Z 50 especially in video-mode and how to get different results in different situations. So maybe somdeday you'll do a "real world" review of this, in my opinion, awesome camera.

@@FuzzyDarkness hows it been so far? I may buy that same exact 2 lens kit tomorrow

    • @FuzzyDarkness
      @FuzzyDarkness 4 года назад +5

@@4partmedia I can only say positive things. This camera has sparked my love for photography so much. It's a joy to use. I'm happy I bought the two lenses as I prefer to use the 50-250 much more. Didn't thought this would be the case beforehand. But both lenses are awesome and the picture quality is amazing for kit lenses. I'm really happy with this kit and I tend to use it for a very long time before thinking about buying a prime lens. In my opinion you can't go wrong with this camera.

Some other nice things on the Z50 are the following.
You can set the f5 menu to on, that way you just press once the FN1/FN2 buttons and then use the front/rear dials to make the change, and press again to set them.
You can use the focus ring on the Nikon Z lenses for other purposes, i set it to change the ISO.
The camera default in "View settings in Live view" is set to on, that way you can view your exposure and that is a good thing, most of the times. But let's say you're in a studio enviroment and you want to shoot using speedlights at f/8 ISO 100 1/200". In that case with the default setting your screen will be black. There are 3 ways to correct this, the first is to dive into the menus and find it and turn it off ,that way the camera will ignore your settings and show you the view. The second is to assign the setting into the i menu for quick access, but the third is by far the best. If you either pop up the flash, attach an external flash, or attach a flash controller, the Z50 will set the "View settings in live view" to off , when you remove the flash it will set it back on automatically.
Picture profiles, noise reduction , even active D-lighting options are somehow "baked" not only in jpeg but in RAW also. You can still edit them out if you like in the RAW file, but i find it very convinient from the Z50 to match perfect the jpeg and RAW outputs.

The most thorough reviewI have seen on RUclips for this camera. I have other Nikon DSLR’s that I use for portrait and action sports shots but this looks perfect for an every day camera and in particular travel camera to take on vacations. You sold me on it. I ordered it today with the 17-50 kit lens and the FTZ adapter which will allow me to use all my other Nikon glass. Thanks for giving such a well thought out and complete review.

Bought the z50 specifically for its light weight and popup flash.
Even the 50-250 is super lightweight.
So for street I have the z6 with 40 f2. For portraits I have the z6 with viltrox 85mm.
For longer ranges I have the z50 with 50-250.
And for in house I have the z50 with 16-50 with flash.

Same here, still using my D5000 that I bought when I was in art school. I love it, it has traveled the world, but the autofocus and video is from the last century and so is the size for street photography, travel, candid portraits. APS-C sensors still produce phenomenal results printing to 13x19 and more, but I’m looking at moving from DX glass into investing in Z S-line glass. I hope Nikon sees the feedback from this and invest more thought into the Z line.

I own a D7500 with a Sigma 18-35 Art lens. I got this Z50 while still not sure if it was worth it. After a week with it, I can say that it has better low light performance than my D7500 and also thanks to the improved auto focus I am getting sharper images at night. I can truly say this upgrade was well worth it for me. I will still keep my D7500 because I sometimes shoot when its rainy out and its nice to have a backup as well.

    • @pakko7416
      @pakko7416 Год назад

The D7500 is a srtipped down D500 which was the best DX professional camera - many professional photographers working with full frame cameras owned a D500 too, praising it for its sports and wild life capabilities. The D7500 has the same sensor and Expeed 5 processor that the D500 had. What it doesn't have is the supped up focusing system and buffer capacity of the D500. The D7500 is a very good camera by any standard. The mirorless Z50 has the same size sensor as the D500 but it has a much higher ISO apability. It must be a developed / improved sensor.

I also got the Z50 + FTZ adapter with the 18-35 Art lens and it's a fantastic combo. I came from a D5200 and have good DX specific glass and the Z50 was the cheap and correct move for me.

I am a little late to the Z50 party, got my Z6 ii first replacing my well worn out D750, now I am looking to replace my D500 and was glad there is a mirrorless Z option to move to. Your review really covered all the questions I have. It's weird that the buttons are all in different places on this model but won't be too strange once set up similar to my other body. Thanks for covering the lenses too. I have decided to go with a kit to grab the kit lenses. They will make it much lighter on days I do not need my older and much heavier glass and save my hands and wrists the arthritis agony haha! Thanks again.

Excellent video and information on the Nikon Z50... one of the best on RUclips. For the longest time, I also wondered why some settings I applied in the “i” menu in Movie Mode also applied to Photo Mode. After fiddling with the settings and searching the online manual, I came up with this. Go into the Movie Shooting Menu and make sure “Same as Photo Settings” is NOT selected for any/or all of the following options:
    Set Picture Control
    White Balance
    Active D-Lighting
    and Vibration Reduction.
If “Same as Photo Settings” is selected for the above options, a “small camera icon with circular arrows” will appear at the top left corner of the “i” menu, indicating that the options selected for these settings in photo mode also apply in movie mode, and vice versa. Hope this helps.
Many thanks for taking the time to create this amazing video and sharing it with us. P.S. I love my Z50!

Enjoyed your talk on the Nikon Z50 as with the screen not being able to flip down because it’s on a tripod. You can now buy a rig for 20 bucks or 20GBP Called SmallRig Vlogging Mounting Plate LCN2525 that fits on the bottom of the camera using the tripod screw mount giving you 9 mounting screw holes for different positions on a tripod and also 2 more on the end giving you an option for portraits. You also get a magnetic key for screwing to your mounts that fit in a recess at the bottom of the plate. Job done!👍

This is a great review! I've watch lots of your Canon M50 videos, and after holding both cameras, the Z50 is definitely the ergonomic choice. In 2022 are there any drawbacks to this camera compared to what else has come out? As well, the Canon R10 was just released, and though it's a little higher price point it is very enticing. Is the extra cost worth it? This is buying my first camera but am pretty serious into photography, and want good video options too. Thanks!

The rolling shutter issue on the sony a6600 is so horrible it will ruin your videos. check youtube about this if you don't believe me. so many sony a6600 and a6400 users are angry about this flaw. Also. 4k on the a6600 is cropped heavily while in the Z50, the whole sensor is used for 4K recording.

@Coo Koo I'd say buy the same Z50 and pair it with a nice lens... that'll be dependant on what you'll be shooting. But the 35mm 1.8 is a good all rounder

Yes ! in this price bracket, this is the best and great value for money camera available in the market today. I always love to shoot on a Nikon Camera. Actually, the one you are reviewing, the Z 50. But since I did not had too much money to invest in it, I bought it used in eBay and bought a Meike 50mm f1.7 manual lens for the Z-Mount in Amazon. Now I am practicing with a new camera in manual mode, but having fun learning about it. Thanks for asking!! I like primes, so I am saving for the Nikkor Z 35mm 1.8 S, but it is high in price...

@@TechGearTalk Hi, that's for the reply. If you are holding, selfie style, it's a little unbalanced but very manageable. If you placing on a table the tripod needs to of quality so 8t can take the additional stress of being unbalanced. They also make a more expensive frame that allows for mounting of a microphone, etc.

HI Randy, I too, want to ask your main uses of the camera, as I have been a Fujifilm X-System user for 8 years, and in fact, may be considering selling my excellent X-T3 kit and moving to FF, only because I print very large posters, for which the larger sensor may be an advantage. Even though this review is 11 months along it still has value. I am looking at replacing my D3100 (new in 2013) which has over 80,000 shutter count. I want to keep my glass 50, 18~105, 18~55, 55~200 and I mainly shoot dancers so a low light system is a must for me. I have been looking at the Z50 and this video is very helpful. Thanks.

Thanks for the well balanced review, I was considering this as my prime option for a new camera and, while I am no Yusuf Karsh, and was primarily looking for something that I can take family photos with, I do have an early DSLR and enjoyed what it can do. I liked this camera for its size and how it feels in the hand, but I can also see that it allows me to do a lot of things I would not have thought of doing and have not had the ability to do before. You have made my purchasing decision so much easier.
