I don't know why adobe never have built in a shortcut for brush rotation. I use brushes a lot and it is very annoying to set the right angle in the brush panel all the time. It's very time consuming to do it this way. I use brushes in combination with canvas rotation a while now, and it works way better then going back to the brush panel every time. I'm glad you made a video about this Glyn. A lot of people probably didn't know this yet.
Hi Glyn, I think there's something interesting (although not perfect in all situations) we can do to rotate the brush. Go to the Brush Presets, check Shape Dynamics. Then in Angle Jitter change the dropdown control from Off to Direction. Click and drag on your image, now the hairs follow the angles and curves of your brush strokes. Interesting when coupled to other brush settings. Sorry for my English, hope you understand me ! And thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge !
NOTE: In Latest Photoshop its there now. Brush Rotation Shortcut 1) Left or Right Arrow. ( For incremental rotation ) 2) Shift + Left & Right Arrow. ( For rotation +- 15 degree ) Hope this will help !
You should mention that the click one uses with the control/alt to change the brush size is a right click. I was using a left click and I had to look it up.
Thank you. As silly as it is to rotate the entire canvas instead of just the brush, Adobe hasn't found out that the mouse wheel would be the perfect way to rotate the brush yet. This will save me a bunch of back and forth into menus.
Thanks, so much, for this. In my previous version of photo shop my canvas would suddenly rotate to an odd angle and I couldn't get it straight again, other than closing and reopening the document. This hasn't happened with cc 2017 (yet), but now I have an idea what's going on.

Hi Glyn I would like to apologize if I may have offended you with my poorly worded comment, this was not my intention I have used rotating the canvas method a lot in the past and you referred it to having a cheap Wacom Cintig, I mentioned the Wacom art pen as a point of reference, I know it is not a workaround or a keyboard shortcut which was the point of showing your subscribers an alternative way to rotate brushes which I and other subscribers appreciate.
so basically...there is no rotate brush option...just rotate canvas...like every other title that says "rotate brush"....but actually doesn't. still...in 2019....even after AI and miraculous strides in technology...you still cant rotate the fucking brush with a simple shortcut. Im actually amazed

You can create a shortcut to flip the canvas horizontal as well, then the brush will effectively paint in the opposite direction.

Unfortunately this rotation trick seems not to work on CS4. By rotating the canvas it rotates the brush in the same way :-(
