Bruce Lee taught not to parrot and copy his words in quotes but to objectively discover the truth about combat, philosophy, martial arts and acting and customize it to honestly express ourselves with Jeet Kune Do.
Good talk. I never had a coach for rapier so I read the treatises and watched RUclips videos. The only way to determine if a technique was good was to pressure test it. However, only a few people in my group had even a passing interest in drilling and focussed sparring. Mostly people wanted to be taught/learn passively and not have to think about it.
Amazing and wise advice in this video. Funny comment section. I'm guilty myself of having difficulty to affirm my own view of things that are taughted to me. Nowadays I usually keep silent when I see something that does not work, make mental notes to not use it in real situations and try to learn what is useful or simply stop attending the dojo since most teachers consider asking simple and fundamental questions an inexcuseble offense. My trajectory remembers me a bit of that protagonist at that Akira Kurozawas movie: 'After the Rain'. But maybe I'm idealizing my delusions with most of my former teachers. In despite of that, even with imperfect teachers we may learn something, even if it is what not to do. Perhaps is coming the day when I will start teaching and making my own mistakes in the proccess. But this video taught me (remembered) me of something very important: the teacher is not an idol, it is a trainer, a coach, someone more experienced to guide and aid the student to find his own style and ways to fulfill his own goals, missions and destiny.
Your timing is amazing, I wanted to go to my Kung fu school for training and contacted them recently and was told things I've said to other students that makes the masters uncomfortable. I'm not welcome . It's was this: their holders of great skill but be your own person, also don't sleep with or date students or other customers of this business of martial arts
Very interesting to hear this topic come up now I don’t know you but with all your content I consider you one of my sources for fencing and I have many I no longer have a teacher since I live on an island and there are no hema schools but I must say when u say books I believe your referring to the German and Italian longsword teachings? I’ve heard you speak on this before now I practice longsword and I came to your channel for smallsword but it seems you may yourself feel that there is only one way with all do respect
I don’t have this problem with Bruce Lee who I look at as my teacher, however I believe he looked at himself as a reincarnation of a person from the past a dragon type character a warrior hero… and I believe he was blessed from his Jewish side, and he was born at the right time at the right hour like Alexander the Great ( Nectanebo II had Olympias give birth to Alexander at an exact time in order for Alexander to be a conqueror. I think Bruce Lee was a truly great man and person and that he is a true master martial artist. I also like Miyamoto Musashi. I don’t think they’re as great as the Jewish warriors like Moses Joshua Benaiah Shamgar because God was for them, and the rest but they are still people who dedicated their whole lives to one thing. I also think Cus D’Amato is a great person and that these three teachers have been elevated to immortal status but they are great teachers.
Lots of good advice, thank you!
I'd certainly watch a video about the Four Fallacies of the Apocalypse.

That surely was the most comment I have ever read.
