The air suspension on the defender makes it look like it’s on “pogo sticks”. The lack of suspension articulation in the defender doesn’t inspire confidence over uneven terrain. The bronco with a small lift and 37’s would be even more impressive.

That's what everyone wants to see... a Jeep on 39's is really the pinnacle of vehicle capability and a Defender represents all the fancy off-road tech that MFG's are now creating. Super impressed with the Bronco and cant wait to see what the aftermarket crowd does, or even Ford with the upcoming Bronco R/Warthog! And the "pooh" comment almost made me spit out my coffee lol. Good job!
The Bronco did great and is in stock configuration. The others are lifted and the wrangler has a big v8 and larger tires. Go Ford. Great job on that Bronco right out of the box.
The 392 has absolutely no bearing here. A Rubicon with the Extreme Recon package and 3.6L (still less money) would be an equal comparison vehicle to the Bronco with the Squatch. They’d still be fairly equal in capability with the Rubicon having the advantage when it comes to tight space maneuverability.
Sad it must be a surprise the Defender is a capable off-roader. It sure rocks in this configutation tho. But most impressed I was by the effortlessness of the Bronco, actually - what a crowler! Would have liked to see that in comparsion to an equal (susp./tires) Wrangler.
The defender (like many other LRs) is a good offroad vehicle. The problem is when "car says no" - you will get a failed sensor in suspension and it will deprive you of lockers or low range because they overcomplicate everything. When that christmas tree lights up, you're on your own.
Great test Tommy, the defender did great and I love the way it looks both inside and out. The Bronco was spectacular for stock. I can only imagine what it's full potential will be once you put a 5 star tune and 37's on her with a 4 inch lift. The Bronco is NO JOKE... The jeep made it all look so easy... I love and welcome them all: The Bronco, Defender and the Jeep are all amazingly capable off road vehicles! This was such a good adventure to watch. The Defender looked like it was gaining the traction it needed to make the V Notch climb but could have used some more weight on the front to keep it balanced. A little downward force on the front on the vehicle would have stabilized it enough to make it up. I have seen people holding or strapping down vehicles in extreme situations to keep them from rolling or flipping, especially 2 door jeeps on a steep rock drop off descent. The Jeep is a tried and true offroad champion, the Bronco is an amazing new offroader of equal capability, and the new Defender is rig that can hang with the best off road while still providing on road performance and refinement. Out of curiosity I wonder how the Mercedes G550 4x4 Squared with the right tires would do on this trail. Having a diversity of vehicles keeps things fun and interesting.
@@arnoldikedichiokpani4305 First time i watched it i was like "hmm, it seems to flex at least and didn't lift", but looking at it again, holy shit, it does flex a lot more than i had thought for a stock vehicle. That's really good for IFS.
The Bronco DOES have more articulation. Between the solid rear axle, and the fact that it's not driving around on its tippy-toes all time, which is effectively what the lift on the Defenders doing.
This trail is in my back yard.. you cannot understand how difficult these obstacles are and how impressive these trucks did until you see these in person. I've seen many many modified Toyota on 37s, jeeps, izusus, Nissan all fails these. That first hole is a killer. When the tire is inside, it has to climb a vertical climb of about 24" to get out. But wait, if you pick the line like the jeep does, if you miss the ridge, the entire rig will slide sideways. His extreme wide stance and 39" tires helped tremendously. I've often considered taking my 10 Nissan titan up just to see what itll do, but 1 mis step and I won't have a 10 Nissan titan anymore lol
Agreed. We couldn’t get the drivers side on the ridge at the base in the Defender as the passenger rear wouldn’t be able to get up and out of the hole. Had to straddle both to attempt to get up. If it were dry, truly believe it would have walked right up…
@@cotrails8356 the problem is I've never seen it dry lol. That whole area stays pretty damp and any low lying area seems to collect water. So right out the gate you're at a disadvantage. Enjoyed seeing these conquer a really cool trail!
That Bronco is truly impressive rock crawling even with the compromises. That rear control arm causing problems was definitely done like that for high speed stability when desert running. It's clear Ford wanted it to be able to do everything and considering that, it's impressive how well it holds up to the jeep. It's pretty clear it will never be better than a Jeep in a pure rock crawling scenario because of the IFS compromises but it's certainly not far off and I'm sure plenty of people will be willing to make that same compromise for the better on road handling.
In order for it to never be better than a Jeep rock crawling would mean the Jeep can go places a Bronco can’t. I’ve never seen a Jeep go anywhere a Bronco couldn’t. And I’m talking about stock vehicles. However, the Bronco can do something the Wrangler cannot, high speed desert running.
@@khakiswag - exactly, these Jeep fanboys get caught up in rock crawling which is a tiny percentage of off roading and I still have yet to see a scenario where the Bronco can’t go where the heep cant. Put them both on some sand dunes and that little poor jeep will never catch up
It's like that for cost savings. They could have mounted that bracket up between the frame rails and further forward on the vehicle, then used a longer control arm. Same geometry, better offroad, more clearance, more cost.
Ford definitely has a winner, it’s packed with enough capability off the showroom floor to tackle some serious trails without the “will it get me home anxiety”. You shouldn’t have to make drastic changes to defeat that anxiety.

The Bronco appears pretty impressive, the Wangler is what it is and did nothing I wouldn't expect it to. The Landrover is interesting though. From what I've seen the main issue with it is the lack of room for bigger tyres and smaller wheels for "proper" off roading. The Defender was never designed to rock crawl. Its target market was people who want to pull a horsebox, boat or large caravan/trailer. The reason you can't fit 16 inch wheels on one is because the brakes are too big. It's brakes are that big because it has twice the towing and payload capacity of the Bronco. They are just meant for different roles. They are all "lifestyle" vehicles but there are many different lifestyles.

That was incredible that the Bronco could keep up with such heavily modified setups. Even though the Defender is so capable when properly modified, I still don't think it would be something I could trust when on such a trail. With the Wrangler, its hardcore old school while the Defender needs so much in the way of trick electronics to do what it does. As it wears, all of that stuff will also require a mortgage to start fixing as well.
Keep in mind that both the Jeep and RR cost well over $100k with modifications! That freaking Bronco can be purchased in that configuration for less than half that price!
And this, kids, is why flex is so important for a true offroad vehicle, and no amount of "tech" can make up for excessive wheel lifting and turn over dangers plus traction lack it causes
Except the Jeep on monster truck tires couldn't make it either. This video proved being a good driver and picking proper lines can make up for a lot of spec sheet shortcomings.
Considering the Defender is more of an overlander or trail runner than a rock crawler, it did fairly well. Simply buy the vehicle that works for what you consider off-roading and be happy.
Another great video. That Defender looks like it has very little wheel travel. That Bronco does so well for being completely stock. Does as well as highly modded Wranglers.
Super fun video! Love the passion of the Jeep/Land Rover owner and his willingness to use his trucks on the trail. End of the day, as much as I love Jeep’s, the Bronco is an amazing stock truck.
The Defender is still bad. The Jeep is now in its own category and isn't really a fair comparison anymore with the massive tires and extensive other mods. The Bronco is impressing me more and more.

The Defender is huge and heavy, it is not surprising. The Jeep is a toy by comparison. By the way, I am not sure where the Defender struggled or had to work hard, and the Bronco didn't? The Jeep has a solid front axle, but the Bronco not, and my impression was that it was #3 in this test.
The fact that the bronco is completely stock is super impressive to be keeping up with the other two vehicles that are heavily modified

Considering the Defender wasn't designed for rock crawling and this example is heavily modified, it did very well.
The defender (like many other LRs) is a good offroad vehicle. The problem is when "car says no" - you will get a failed sensor in suspension and it will deprive you of lockers or low range because they overcomplicate everything. When that christmas tree lights up, you're on your own.

The Bronco DOES have more articulation. Between the solid rear axle, and the fact that it's not driving around on its tippy-toes all time, which is effectively what the lift on the Defenders doing.
It does have more articulation than the defender- 4" of lift doesn't mean it gained 4" more wheel travel.

Defender with max-height air suspension has absolutely zero flex xD
Yeah it’s sooo damn bad ! Like watching a breeze block on a skateboard!!! Horrendous
It’s designed that way
And this, kids, is why flex is so important for a true offroad vehicle, and no amount of "tech" can make up for excessive wheel lifting and turn over dangers plus traction lack it causes
Except the Jeep on monster truck tires couldn't make it either. This video proved being a good driver and picking proper lines can make up for a lot of spec sheet shortcomings.

And the fact that no army, humanitarian organization, or government have ever used wranglers says which is a toy and which is a tool.

Tommy, I hope that Ford sees this Video and how well you Made this Bronco shine. You are by far the best Driver on the Channel.
I'm glad you are promoting RMDH. I visited there house in Gothenburg, Sweden, years ago when my sister in-law's family was there as their son was going through treament. I was very impressed by this charity.
This series was the best for sure! and the app that you created is amazing and really helpful! Thank you!
All the Bronco needs is a 2-inch lift and 37s
🤣
@@mikesters3532 Why you are so hurt kid did DogShît fiat didn't give you proper salary ? How much Bronco Hurt you ?
any one know of a 2 inch lift. all i have seen are spacer lots so far
@@trailboss7504 Dude put a laughing emoji. You're clearly the one hurt. Also Wranglers are more capable offroad anyway we all know that. We know that bronco is better on road, since thats all its owners are going to be doing. And maybe occasional dirt driveways for insta photo ops. But if youre going to call jeeps "fiat" you better call them maseratti with the same energy because it would make sense with that logic.
@@SanctumOfDreams no one said that Fiat shîtrangler is capable off-road than Bronco , stop living in your strawberry dreams
I can't wait for the Bronco Raptor, it should be an absolute beast for a stock vehicle, especially in 2 door configuration if they make that an option...
Must a be wheel base thing. I have a 2 dr JKR that was on 35's at that time get up that tough section. Took a couple tries but went right up without issue. That v notch section to the right of tough section was throwing 2dr's left front wheel high in the air but the 4 doors seemed to have an easier time with the v notch. We will tackle Wheeler Lake again before it snows.
It’s much more dug out this year, guessing from the rain and heavy COVID use… dry I think both Bronco and Defender walk right up the left side line.
Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it but I think you guys are top blokes for promoting a charity as part of the precious promo segment.
