      BADKALOS Many thanks for your kind comment!
      I really wanted to feel and know how it was to fly the mighty F-16 because a very good simulation existed. I couldn't find much information either so I started studying documentation from different sources. I'm glad it helped you! Thanks for letting me know.

    The F-16 has one of the most beautifully designed cockpits of any aircraft in the world. I got a chance to sit in one as a child, a completely active bird too. Just not powered up or anything. My uncle was an F-16 mechanic in the early 90s and of course had a good relationship with the squadron pilots. I don't know the exact story but I guess he pulled some kind of strings and I was able to get a chance to sit in one, under supervision of course. I was allowed to grab the stick but that's pretty much it...so I just got to look around and be in awe of where I was.
    That experience led me to being fascinated with this plane. One of these days I really have to spend the money on getting a good HOTAS setup and then get serious about learning a sim like Falcon BMS. I'm not gonna get to fly this bird in the real world so that's the next closest thing for a civilian like me. But anyway, this cockpit is so intuitively designed. Everything is easy to reach, the reclined ejection seat to help the pilot handle high Gs. Completely unrestricted view through the bubble canopy. The MFDs and RWR are positioned in the perfect positions. You really feel like you're a part of the machine while sitting in this jet due to how it's laid out.
    What a great machine.

      Thank you for your story! I have never seen an F-16 from close, but always found it a mighty airplane. When I was around 12 years, the Belgian office from General Dynamics wasn't very far from where I lived. I got some official brochures and documentation. I still have it. In 1998, I bought the Falcon 4.0 simulation software and loved it. At that time, I wasn't that good at it though. In the mean time, I was able to fly it more correctly with a full startup and procedures. I was hoping to make a video for it, but don't have the time for the moment. Thanks.

    I bought this game with the F-16 add on thinking this will take me months to figure out. Cold/dark setup, navigation, coms, and flying. After watching your tutorial like 12 or so times I can successfully say I completed my first flight which was Buckely AFB (Aurora, Colorado) to Cheyenne Municipal Airport (Cheyenne, Wyoming) without the guide and I learned all of this in less than 24 hours. This tutorial is awesome and I strongly recommend this video if your trying to learn how to properly fly an F-16 in FSX. Thank you for making this video! I still can't believe how easy it was to learn everything in such a short amount of time.. ^___^

    Just transferred to the F16 and wanted to say - ubber danka baby! Outstanding work and in one day I managed to watch/look/listen/learn/commit to memory and safely expedite A to Z.

      You certainly made me laugh with your comment. Glad it could help you.
      That was always what I had in mind when making these videos. I learned an airplane using the official documentation combined with what I had learned from other airplanes, sources and comments from viewers. Then I made a step by step summary. This way I can help other people and also myself if I want to fly it again after a long time without having to spend days/weeks to study it again.
      With the F-16 I wanted to go further with the Falcon BMS simulator, but I couldn’t find the time to finish it.
      Thanks for the comment and support!

Mijn pc specs: i7 3770 3,4 ghz, 16 gb ram, nvidia GTX 660. Thanks again!

      Ja, het werkt in Prepar3D (ik heb nu versie 2.5 academic). Vermits je het nog moet aanschaffen, versie 3 heeft vele optimalisaties. Ik wacht nog wat om het opnieuw aan te schaffen tot alle ontwikkelaars compatibele versies uitbrengen en ik de moed heb om alles terug te installeren :-)
      Zelf heb ik GTX 770, 8GB, i7-4770 @ 3.4 dat iets hoger is dan jouw configuratie. Als ik op Internet kijk naar je configuratie zou je zeggen dat het geen probleem mag zijn. Mits natuurlijk de settings van de simulator aan te passen volgens wat haalbaar is. Als het in FSX goed werkt denk ik niet dat het in P3D veel slechter zal zijn.

      +Gunther Willems Ik heb inmiddels door hoe je genavigeerd hebt naar de bestemming, middels de NAV instellingen en je eerst naar de VOR vliegt, en daarna een linkerbocht maakt naar de runway. Duidelijk. Is er ook een manier om met de GPS naar je doel te vliegen?

    • @aboesimbel
      @aboesimbel 8 лет назад

      +Gunther Willems P.s: is het ook mogelijk om de missiles en tanks wel of niet onder je vleugel te hangen? Ik kies altijd een kaal toestel uit, maar zal voor een lange vlucht tanks nodig hebben....

    • @GuntherWillems
      @GuntherWillems  8 лет назад

      +aboesimbel
      Ja, je kunt via GPS naar je doel vliegen. In de video gebruik ik het voordat ik naar de VOR vlieg. Er moet een vluchtplan actief zijn om de te volgen lijnen te zien. Dit kan je doen in de simulator (zie 13:15 in de video). Nu gebruik ik meestal Plan-G om het vluchtplan aan te maken omdat je dan gemakkelijk custom waypoints kunt instellen. Op het rechter MFD scherm (map) kan je ook informatie zien zoals luchthavens, VOR, ILS, terrein, verkeer, ...
      Ik heb 2 video's gemaakt waarin ik Plan-G gebruik moest je het niet kennen. Het is gratis.

      Gunther Willems Are you a pilot on real life?

    • @GuntherWillems
      @GuntherWillems  7 лет назад +1

      No, I’m not. In 2001 I followed the lessons in MS Flight simulator and passed the private pilot and instrument rating checkrides. But even with this, you miss a lot of important information. I read a lot of documentation. In 2015, I followed paid online lessons about aviation, VFR, IFR, complex dual engine. After that I subscribed for a paid online course for the Boeing 737. And the comments from the people looking at my videos helped also. And I’m still learning :-)

      Maybe a pdf for the f16 and the f18?

    • @GuntherWillems
      @GuntherWillems  7 лет назад

      You can find the startup procedures and other documentation with the airplane: Manual_F16_Engl Aerosoft.pdf
      Learning to fly an airplane is always time consuming. The more buttons, the more systems, the more complex it will be. Sometimes starting an airplane from cold & dark to ready to fly takes around 30 minutes. It is normal for a video to be longer than 30 minutes. I always add subtitles to make it easier to skip to a point of interest.

    As always Mr. Willems very nice review and tutorial, thank you very much for postig this video...!! I was looking for a tutorial on the Aerosoft F-16 One question I was looking in the Aerosoft forum about the clicking sounds on the cockpit, but I couldn't find anything. I you kindly help me on this, because my clicks don't sound on my cockpit... Geeting from Venezuela.....!

    • @GuntherWillems
      @GuntherWillems  8 лет назад

      Thank you for the nice comment! I have no clue about the missing sounds in the cockpit. I searched the internet but cannot find a solution. In the past Aerosoft said in their forum: "We had the same with the F-16 where there was a sound issue for some users and not for others. We never found out what caused it." A post on their forum with the same question in December 2015 was never answered.
      Are you using FSX, FSX:SE or P3D? If it's P3D, did you install it with a migration tool? I used it in the past. If you're using P3D, I can install it without the migration tool and see if I have the same problem.

    I used to have Falcon 4.0 Allied Force, and I really knew the F-16. Then I eventually bought Falcon 4.0 from 1998 so I can download 4.33 BMS, and I love it. It's super realistic, and it only took 1 hour to download. I also bought FSX Steam Edition and the F-16, so I can fly group flights on my Virtual Airline. None of this would have happened if my X Plane 10 wouldn't have crashed constantly. I am sad to have lost pay ware on X Plane 10, but FSX, and P3D is better, and if you want a really good F-16 sim, get Falcon 4.33 BMS. The update is free, and you just have to download from the Benchmark Sims website forum.

      I bought Microprose Falcon 4.0 on 27/02/1999. I still have the original box with all the books and the cdrom in it. Such a long time ago :-) At that time I wasn't that good. But it was interesting and I could fly it. Some months ago, I used Falcon BMS 4.33. Great graphics and simulation. I don't have a DVD player in my computer anymore, so I bought it again on Steam for a little price. Glad you like it too.

    • @GuntherWillems
      @GuntherWillems  7 лет назад

      Thank you! In the video at 2 minutes I use shift+2 to get a menu to change to cold & dark or ready to fly. That is in the original version from Aerosoft F-16. I don't have P3Dv4 yet. It's the same version, but perhaps there are changes?
      Some airplanes have a keyboard combination, others have an external configuration program to set the default outside the simulator, others have nothing and the airplane is started in cold & dark or started by default and cannot be changed. Then you can set it like you want and save it like this in the airport you are at that moment. In the last case I shut it down first to start it then.

    One question, is this falcon from XPlane or Microsoft Flight Simulator X, where can I purchase an F-16 addon with as many features and details as the one in the video. Well, I already looked on Steam, and I couldn't find it for sale.

    • @GuntherWillems
      @GuntherWillems  7 месяцев назад +1

      You can find all the details in de description of the video. It was Prepar3D 2.4 (P3D). Most of the 3rd party airplane simulation developers don't develop for P3D anymore and transitioned to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. I think that the best F-16 simulation is Falcon BMS. It’s free. The graphics are a bit less, and you cannot fly in the whole world.
      The one used here is the Aerosoft F-16 in Prepar3D (P3D)

      @@GuntherWillems Thanks for the information, I'm studying to be a pilot, not a military one, but I really like military planes, and the F-16 is my favorite, I like the idea of activating it and following the procedures checklist, it's a feeling close to reality revealed in a simulator, this is the closest a civilian would have to contact with a procedure like this. This way, the simulation doesn't feel like a game, where you just move the joystick.

      Thanks again! This sound pack was intended for their F-16D (dual seat version by IRIS). I think it was never released. Apparently it is compatible with the Aerosoft F-16C. So also with FSX:SE that uses the same airplane configuration files. I cannot confirm it though. I don't have FSX:SE and the sound pack.

      No problem. I’m glad it could help you. It’s true, it was my best landing and I was luckily recording it for the video. It was a rather narrow runway. The HUD is a great help at landing. In later videos I set the seat a bit higher before landing (shift+enter).
      Thanks for your comments!

      You can use the automatic startup (2 minutes in the video you see the option). Or you could use a minimal part from the startup procedure by only keeping what is needed to start the engine and set the instruments.

      On the F-16 the flaps and leading edge flaps are automatic. It isn't the pilot that decides if and how much to put the flaps down it's a computer system. At that moment the computer set the flaps to 20°.

      It's a simulation of the F-16 (without weapons and some other systems). You need a compatible simulator to use it. (FSX, FSX SE (Steam Edition), Prepar3D).
      The advantage of FSX, FSX SE (Steam Edition) and Prepar3D is that you can fly any type of airplane (GA, WW2, military jets, airliners, ...) and always have the same environment. You can fly anywhere in world, learn navigation, fly in real weather, ... Most are paid add-ons.
      At the moment I'm testing another F-16 simulator: Falcon BMS 4.33. Here, almost everything is simulated. I will try to make a video for this one too. This (older updated) simulator has some military jets, a dynamic campaign and a lot of documentation ;-). It's considered the most realistic F-16 simulator.

      Tacpack can only be used with airplanes that are developed for it. The Aerosoft F-16 isn't. But, apparently someone made a mod that adds some tacpack functions to it. See forums.vrsimulations.com/forums/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=109&t=16892

      If on the keyboard you push Shift+2 and select Ready to fly, do you have the same problem? Is it FSX, FSX steam edition or P3D that you use as simulator? In the 2 FSX versions it is supposed to work without problems. P3D is trickier because it is not officially supported. In the past it was compatible with P3D 2.4 if installed with a migration tool.
      Also test with this option checked: Options / Settings / General / Show Opening Screen (P3D=show scenario startup screen). This way no other airplane is started before the F-16.

    • @GuntherWillems
      @GuntherWillems  7 лет назад +1

      I don't have the real documentation of the F-16 (probably classified). I looked it up in the documentation of the most realistic PC F-16 simulation: Falcon BMS 4. It has the same 2 buttons for the autopilot with: "ALT HOLD commands the aircraft to maintain a constant altitude." "The reference altitude is the altitude the aircraft was at when the A/P switch was engaged" "ALT HOLD - the autopilot will strive to maintain the altitude determined by the INS at the time the PITCH mode switch was set."

    • @robertd9031
      @robertd9031 7 лет назад +2

      Thanks for the quick response!
      I used to have this misconception about the autopilot's ALTITUDE HOLD feature--I thought "ALTITUDE HOLD" meant that the autopilot was supposed to HOLD the ALTITUDE, selected by the pilot. Little did I know that, in actuality, setting the ALT HOLD does NOT necessary mean the aircraft will remain at one constant altitude.
      (I learned this the HARD way in microsoft's flight simulators! Even with the ALT HOLD set, it didn't stop me from "porpoising!" LOL)

      You need at least a simulator (FSX, FSX SE (Steam Edition), Prepar3D) and a simulated airplane (here Aerosoft F-16). Always be sure that the 2 are compatible with each other. For example, I'm not sure if the Aerosoft F-16 is running on the new version of P3D v3. I cannot confirm this because I'm still using version 2.5 at the moment. Version 3 was released 2 months ago. Most developers are adapting their installers for it.
      Windows 7 is supported for the 3 simulator platforms.

      Yes, that is not possible with the current version. But it could be that they will update it in the (near?) future. Perhaps with tacpack support.

      All that was used is in the description of the video. The simulator was Prepar3D 2.4 at that time. Not sure that it works with the current generation of simulators (Prepar3D v5, msfs2020)

      I try to find out how to add ASMR to a description :-) Thanks for the tip.
      I'll see if the ASMR in the comments will make a difference :-)

    Can you give me the plane please?

    • @GuntherWillems
      @GuntherWillems  6 лет назад

      In P3D v4 it's an airplane that's automatically there. For other simulators, you will need to buy it.

    there is no autopilot in the f 16

    • @GuntherWillems
      @GuntherWillems  7 лет назад

      Aerosoft F-16 documentation page 29: "AUTO PILOT: The auto pilot systems in the F-16 are rather rudimentary with just pitch and roll controls."
      Page 11: "The FLCS is also equipped with an Autopilot (AP) function that can maintain attitude, altitude and heading based on the pilot’s choice."
      Still the most realistic F-16 simulator: Falcon BMS simulator, Original Falcon 4 manual page 16-3: "Autopilot: Select one of three Autopilot settings". Page 17-15 "Autopilot toggle switch ..."
      ...
      I used it in the video around 36:45 minutes.

      No problem. It was at the end of my answer: I used it in the video from 36:45 minutes.

    A tutorial for this plane seems silly. It's all eye candy and is as easy as any default FSX plane to operate. As to Aerosoft making a new version...this has NOT been confirmed and more than likely will not happen.

      Aerosoft has removed the discussion about the possible development of a new/updated version for the F-16. So indeed for the moment it is not very likely that they will start developing it.
      If you use the procedures, checklists and documentation with this F-16 simulation like I did in the video and later try to fly the F-16 in the Falcon BMS 4 simulator, you will have no problem flying and landing it. Falcon BMS 4 still considered one of the best F-16 simulations. I didn't like the 4.32 version that much. I didn't like the graphics and had some problems configuring my flightstick. I see a new version exists (BMS 4.33) in the mean time with a lot of improvements. Perhaps I will test it.
      Flying the Aerosoft F-16 was no lost time for me though.

      @GuntherWillems  7 лет назад

      Indeed! I bought my version on 27/02/1999. That's a long time ago :-) At that time I wasn't that good. But it was interesting and I could fly it.
      The last years I didn't like the graphics. But with version BMS 4.33 I'm flying it again. The graphics are great. The best version ever. I really like it and hope to make a video.

      And btw you can start the engine on BAT power only and you can also start the engine directly on Start 2 you can skip Start 1.

    • @GuntherWillems
      @GuntherWillems  8 лет назад

      I love the simulator Falcon BMS 4. Yes, it has higher fps, but the graphics in P3D are better and you can take off at any airport. But the graphics in Falcon BMS 4.33 are not bad at all. The past weeks I"m flying the F-16 in it. Hope I can find the time for a summary video. :-) Thanks for the comment!

      C'est une vidéo qui vise à expliquer le démarrage et les systèmes de cet avion complexe.
      À 26: 52 je regarde bien autour de l’avion s’il n’y a pas de danger pour rouler sur la piste du décollage. Il y a régulièrement des vues extérieures pour voir l’avion et le paysage.
      C'est une vidéo technique pour aider à maîtriser rapidement cet avion sans devoir lire les documentations énormes.
