@auroraron Yep, batteries, inverters, solar and wind. You'd only really need your genset for large consumption items such as washing machines, dryers, vacuum cleaners, etc.

After Hurricane Sandy there was 4 hour lineups for gas. No waiting for diesel. LP Gas still can't be delivered either. Diesel you can keep for over two years. We also have 100 gallon tanks for these. Don't quite understand why you feel this way.
They have no clue. Diesel is the BEST for back up generators.

@CainmosniMirrored 10,000 hour service life is normal. Can you drive your car 10,000 hours at 1800 RPM 60 miles an hour? That's 600,000 miles of driving. Not bad for a 3 cylinder diesel. Many who live off grid don't run generators 24/7 They charge batteries or use solar in the day time however we do have customers using them full time 24/7 with thousands of hours on them. :-)

I'm building a one bedroom house where I can't get electric too. What generator would I need and would it run a washing machine and stuff like tat. I need help. Someone
If your going to be with out power , a diesel gen set will last 10 to 30,000 hours depending on brand. I have a Perkins diesel with 8 big batteries that supply power at night from 9 at night to nine in the morning. They are trojen brand and run thru an inverter supplying 30 amps 220 volts. May not be the best but the system will operate in this configuration for almost 10 years. Oil changes every 500 hours or about every three weeks. The unit holds 8 quarts of oil

The bad thing with a diesel generator is you need to change the diesel fuel at least once a year. Diesel fuel will cause agile to grow if left alone.
There are actually different types of diesel algae, aka diesel bacteria. The most common species happily nest right in the space between water and the diesel fuel in your diesel tank. It is not advisable to have water in your diesel tank. However, a lot of boaters encounter water in their tank at some point in their boating careers. Water can enter your tank in different ways and when it does, you run the risk of diesel tank algae wandering in and doing their thing. Diesel algae reproduce by multiplying themselves, so they can rapidly grow in number.
If you have natural gas or propane this is the best fuel for a stationary generator.
Kinda depends on conditions. But my friends old kabota tractor had been siting for at least 5 years and in 2 days of using it ran fine. We filled it up before parking her again.
That is so not true Hansel. Buddy in St. Thomas back up gen for entire restaurant. 2,000 diesel tank sat 8 years then ran fine. 400 gallons diesel in my boat. Usually only fuel up every 3 years. No problems. Lowes & Publix have HUGE back up diesels with 1,000 gallon tanks. Spoke to store mgrs. no problems. Secret may be just add some diesel algaecide when fueling up.
It’s a beautiful, well built generator, but 10kw isn’t enough for my home, and 24 hours run time is insufficient. I have a 22kw Generac that runs off natural gas, so I have unlimited run time.
That's an older generator Aurora made. Aurora has many different sizes and all powered by Perkins Engine. Unfortunately Natural Gas is the least efficient fuel source for power generation you can get. Just like LP, it cost an incredible amount of money to fuel them. Because the fuel contains a lot less power, the engines run at high speeds, 3600 RPM, speeds your car does not even do on the highway. The higher speeds and air cooled gas engines don't last more than 1000 hours. Diesel 20,000 hours plus and cost a lot less to operate. Generac looks good sitting in the store. That's where it should stay. Read the reviews !

Perhaps you missed it, this is a DIESEL not a stupid gas generator.
Made in China! Nope not for me. I can see finding parts being a problem. Looks good though.
