Big thank you to Helena, Eysteinn, Alexandra Líf, Aría Rún, Ísbjört Eva and Saga for this wonderful Icelandic Christmas themed box! Hope you all enjoy watching ❤️🎄
You wear wondering about the daylight in the winter time. From middle of august it starts to get darker every day. Our darkest day is the 21th of December and on that day we get about 4 hours of daylight. But in July we will have 24/7 of daylight :)
@@ThisWithThem In the winter time you will go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. Depression is quite high during winter. But this is what we are used to. On the darkest day the daylight does not come until around noon and it will start to get dark between 3-4pm. But after the darkest day the daylight starts slowly become more and more. Like in April it will get dark between 10-11pm and the daylight starts between 7-9am. So it is a big circle between the dark and the light that we are so used to. I´m a turist bus driver an we drive all year around. In the winter time on evenings we drive out with people to see the Northern Lights and that you can only see in the dark. So for me dark og light it does not matter :)
I love hearing little extras about each country or place of origin. Not only are your videos fun, but also educational. Keep watching, kids. You just might learn something. 😀
You guys absolutely kill it with the not-so-natural close ups during the crisp and popcorn scene from 7:06 min hahahaha! And yet you had only had a "few sips of beer" when doing that. Potent stuff I guess! Love such sneaky húmor!
I'm happy that you're expanding & being known in other corners of the world. I hope the year 2021 will be the year where you reach 1 million subscribers. Happy Holidays to you & to the lovely fam ❤️
Oh my gosh! What an amazing box! So cool seeing what a country like Iceland has to offer! Can’t wait for part 2!! Hoping you’re all having an amazing week! Sending you all our love, always. ❤️❤️
It was really awesome getting to see what Iceland has to offer 😀 hope you love part 2 next week 😀 thank you Somer. Hope you’re having a wonderful week too. Lots of love ♥️♥️
I'm not usually one for chocolates but the description and your score for the orange and caramel chocolate bar just sounds absolutely amazing. Looking forward to part two. Fun fact last year this week I was on vacation in London and loved every minute of it.
So I'm from Iceland and if you go there around Christmas time I HIGHLY recommend The yule house or in Icelandic Jólahúsiđ it is located in Akureyri and its open also in spring, summer and fall. You can get traditional food. All kinds of Caramel, and explore the stories of the 13 yule lads (jólasveinarnir). Yeah There are 13 of them and kids get little gifts from each one of them counting down to Christmas from the 12th to 24th because we celebrate on the 24th and open gifts in the evening. But you can also visit Árbæjarsafn which is in Reykjavík around the holidays and experience the way we celebrated in like the year 1300 and its awesome. BTW there is also a little Xmas shop downtown and also many many Christmas Markets which I recommend going ALL of these places if you visit during the Holidays to get that impressive holiday spirit. You can ALSO visit Dimmuborgir in Mýrardalssveit from the 1st to 24th and meet the yule lads from the series Jólasveinarnir í Dimmuborgum you can watch the Some episodes if you search up Jólasveinarnir í Dimmuborgum.
From Iceland here, I love England. Listening to you trying to pronounce Icelandic words is very entertaining. We actually celebrate Christmas on the 24th and open presents after dinner. We have 13 Father Christmases, all different.
Wow what a haul! Loved the box they sent all of the goodies in, so festive! You guys had your work cut out for you trying to pronounce all of the names! Awesome video guys!
Kate your pronunciation is terrific for a non Icelander. If you haven’t finished the Filakarmellur (the white chocolate covered caramels) you should try spreading popcorn on a baking sheet, mix those in and heat for 30 minutes. While that is in the oven melt a chocolate bar of your choosing and spread it over the warm popcorn and then stir it all a little bit together. It is madness, such an amazing treat! 🤤🤤
Really!!!! 😀😀Yaaaay!! Thank you!! So awesome to hear I did okay!! OH WOW!!! I think we do have some left, I will have to give that a go because that sounds amazing. Thank you 😀
That was so funny when the woman in this video said the word BEER! Her accent went completely away. Then after she said the word BEER! Her accent returned. Lol that was so funny.
I bet your mums been to Iceland 😀. Who knew about snacks from Iceland? They’ve all been really lovely and different from what we get here - can’t wait for part 2.
I love your sweater kate awesome Christmas light necklace these candy videos are fun to watch everything looks delicious in these videos have a wonderful Christmas kate and alax
That Mexican Cheese looks yummy. I'll have to do some web searching for it. I must say though, I noticed Alex buttered the cracker first. I never heard of that, now that's an easy thing to try! Fantastic box and video, can't wait for part 2!
It was really delicious!! No way!! You have to try it with butter first! It is so delicious. Yes not necessarily needed but so much better haha. Hope you enjoy!
The trick for most sodas made from Egill's (the malt extract orange soda can) is that they still use cane sugar instead of syrup in their sodas. So yes, it is still highly sugary, but it is much more refreshing than anything else made with syrups (Coke, Pepsi, Fanta, etc). Drink in moderation though.
I love that you guys put butter on your crackers. People always look at me funny when I put butter on my crackers. I love doing buttered crackers and hot chicken noodle soup. Or in a cup of tea
There is now a list of treats I need to try and so many of these will be added. I’m so sad we don’t have things like this in the UK but I definitely live vicariously through you both! I’ve asked for an American snacks hamper for Christmas! That’s acceptable at 25 right 🙈
Hehe love that you’ve got a list! 😀 it’s so funny how different food can be from country to country! No way, that sounds amazing. Yes of course it is!! Enjoy that 🍫🍬
Nice video. It was nice to see you try all this Icelandic food. I am an Austrian girl living in Iceland and also not the biggest fan of liquorice (can't stand the salted one) but I really like the Bingo and Kúlur. Like you said its a nice combo between chocolate and the liqurice
I went to a vacation (holiday) to Iceland, a few summers ago. My brother and sister-in-law were living in England (Harrogate, North Yorkshire) when my brother got transferred there for work for 3 years. Me and my parents made a trip to England to visit them and stopped in Iceland on the way home. It is just a beautiful and breathtaking there as it looks in photos (actually even more beautiful and breathtaking). I highly recommend going there if you haven’t yet done so.
Hii Kate and Alex the last video you guys did I couldn't stop watching it 😂😂 the way you used them little hands so hilarious that my friends found it funny too thats one is my favourite challenges you guys have done 🙌😂💞💞
We can't wait for travel to be in full swing again this year so everyone can experience the variety of (sometimes strange) candy and foods we have here
When I eventually get to travel to the Philippines again I’m gonna buy you guys a load of goodies to try! I absolutely love Filipino food and I think you guys will too. Anyways, how interesting was all this stuff!! Great vid, keep it up guys 👍🏾
As an American that grew up getting candies from Denmark from my grandmother, I say, if you grow up eating licorice it’s not a mature flavor just yummy and nostalgic.
I saw euro vision. It wasn’t bad. This box was amazingly interesting. So many things I’d never seen or had before. I’d love ❤️ to see Iceland 🇮🇸 one day. Great video 👍💕🎄
Norway, Iceland and Finland have an deep rooted and acquired taste for liquorice. In Iceland’s case it’s because Denmark mostly sent us non perishables and leftover products of whatever they had when they ruled over us. We were their industrial garbage can. The only sweet they ever sent was liquorice.
Just saw this video, I'm Icelandic but living in the UK for the past 4 years. I've typically gone home to Iceland for Christmas but obviously, with Covid going on that wasn't a possibility for Christmas 2020 so I started looking around for what I could replace food vice. My mum did send me most of what I needed to make the traditional Icelandic holiday feast but she didn't send the Malt and orange soda drink. So I asked other Icelanders on Facebook that live in the UK and many of them said that you can buy Malt here and mix it with Tango, and it gives it a very similar taste! I tried that and I can confirm that it does :) So if you liked Malt&Appelsin you can get a similar taste by mixing Malt and Tango :)

They filmed the movie in my town, Húsavík ☺️ i can't say i was a fan, kinda made us seem simple, but whatever! I love your videos & it was fun to see an Icelandic box ✔️
2:44 YOLE OR YULE means CHRISTMAS in Scandinavian Nations. Icelandic's candy and treats look really good. I don't like beer, but enjoyed the decorative cans. Both of you have the best jobs. Tasting snacks from around the world. Where can I sign up?🤫🤭
That was a good box and interesting as well. I love licorice so I think I would enjoy those candies. I'm not sure about peanut butter beer, but I would try it. You never know until you've tried things. That's what life us all about- variety. Have a good week.
You’d definitely enjoy these then as you love Licorice. Yeah I wasn’t sure either but Alex enjoyed it! Exactly, you never know. I wasn’t sure about the malt drink either when I heard of it but really enjoyed it!! Hope you have a great week too 🥰
You can use the cheese to make sauces for like pasta dishes or on chicken :) we absolutely love our cheeses in iceland, I'm sat here watching in envy as i cant get any til my parents come over in March as i live in UK :)
Just a quick note, that clip at the beginning where you were "singing", I actually had to turn away. I have both epilepsy & migraines, both photosensitive, and they are often easily triggered by flashing lights and/or that type of camera motion
At 2:50 - Iceland has a small population but is still bigger than Ireland - Well and Scotland, Holland, Portugal, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland.... etc ;)
It's funny how some people got offended on our behalf because of the Eurovision movie, Meanwhile in Iceland: "wow, looks like they did their research". I don't know anybody here in Iceland that didn't like it. And it felt like there were a bunch of winks and nods that made us feel like we were in on the joke, really well done. And especially Amy Adams, even though 99.9999...% people in the world wouldn't notice it she obviously put in the work and time to get that character right, and I love her for that.
16:39 Laufabrauð. They had to do it on The Great British bake off at one point, it didn't go so well with everybody but better than expected, it aired last year I think.
@@ThisWithThem and, here’s an odd thing. Licorice can be something you actually crave if you are iron deficient. This happened to me. I couldn’t eat enough black licorice. It was bizarre. Once I was stabilized, the craving went away. I still like the taste of it but don’t eat it much anymore as I watch my sugar intake.
Bingó kúlur is the best candy of them all, it's my favourite.. and I don't even like licorise. But you shouldn't pop it in and break it to eat, you have to let it stay in your mouth to soften it up before you chew it. It's a candy that lasts and it's the absolute best. Please try eating it that way and you will love it.
For some reason here, malt og Appelsín is always getting promoted and sold on December, but on summer times it's barely on store shelves. Btw I am tired of think about things and I physically laughed when I heard the icelandic on the movie. (Edit: if you do a vpn I highly recommend you watching Ari Eldjárn: pardon my icelandic on netflix
the eurovision movie is amazing the fire saga and this is the most popular christmas snacks and candy and drinks in Iceland and Gleðileg Jól :D also most of my favorites and malt and appelsín is amazing drink and you can also buy the orange soda on its own

Hi Kate and Alex

Hey helena 😀😀
16:39 Laufabrauð. They had to do it on The Great British bake off at one point, it didn't go so well with everybody but better than expected, it aired last year I think.
Can’t wait to get my boxes! I will do reaction videos on TikTok!
The Eurovision movie is actually a sort of dilemma in Iceland, you either love it or hate it no in between. I personally hated it...😂
Great video that was some box. There bit like the Dutch love their licorice or Drop as they call it over here .
Yeah you should see how much Licorice we have in the next box!!
11:20
Her: I think I’m saying that right
Him: Yeah
Me: laughing in Icelandic
But it’s kinda similar when I listen to it more
I ate a lot of licorice growing up. I love it.
I do think if you have it growing up you are more used to the flavour!!
Omg we icelanderd LOVE LOVE LOVE our liqurice haha esp. Coated in chocolate or just straight up brand new and soft and black as black can be 😉
i love how you bought the 2nd most bought jóla terta not the most bought the green one
So excited watch a Christmas 🎄 candies ❤️Alex Kate. Tomorrow my Birthday🥳turning 38 years old
Happy birthday for tomorrow 🥳 hope you have a wonderful day celebrating 🎉♥️♥️
❤️Alex Kate thank you so much
Bingó kúlur is the best candy of them all, it's my favourite.. and I don't even like licorise.
