    That is a nice old ls98!!! They were used for yarding and loading with. That boom is called a heal boom. Originally designed for loading logs onto lock trucks.

    That engine I believe was actually a 8v71 Detroit in it.

    Pretty interesting. I'm kind of surprised that size of machine only has a 4 cylinder engine. I guess maybe with cable system it doesn't require a lot of power. It's not like it's digging and needs a lot of horsepower for hydraulics.

    That's a 4/53 or a 4/73 detroit diesel ,AKA screamin jimmy AKA green leaker, Up on north Vancouver Island there were lots of them. they for light duty ,or poormans yarder as opposed to a midill tower .They are far easier to move and set up then a midill. they were tuff as a pigs nose .the harder it us worked the better it performed.
