How does wrench not spin with engine?
The coupling is designed to kick out the hand crank tool when the engine starts!
@AntiqueCarsandStuff thanks ! My starter getting weak on 48 8n so why i wanted to watch you because never understood how it kicked out .
Happy new year to you and the family
Happy New Year to you as well.
That's a cool lil doohickie mabobber. Happy New Year to you And yours. I'm rootin fer ya!
Thats kinda neat. Reminds me of the old engine analyzers but can go on anything
Happy New Years.
Gott nytt år 🎉🎉
You need to loosen those front wheel bearings. The wheel should turn by itself with the weight of the valve stem. A little loose is better than too tight. Once those bearings get warm, they will put a lot of friction on the bearing. Great video otherwise!
Thanks!
I see you have that hand crank coil tester to keep that fleet of Model T’s going. I may have to get one of those hit a miss engines to go with my 14 runabout. Enjoyed the video!
They are neat engines!
Maybe use stubby screwdriver?
I was little when the farmer next door would bale his hay. He pulled the baler with a John Deer. I don't know how the baling machine was powered. Some times the tractor would blow smoke rings.
I have a 1962 Ford 4000 with a big loader on the front..I have never seen another hydraulic system like it has..it has the "Stinger" hydraulic pump mounted low in the front and the high pressure and suction lines come off of it..the control box has 2 levers for boom up / down and bucket up /down..I was picking up a big part of a tree trunk that I cut up and when I was lifting it up with the loader one of the seals on a control lever blew and was spraying hydraulic fluid everywhere...I un-chained the big tree trunk section and started the tractor back up and the loader on its own when straight up and held fully extended.. so I drove the tractor back to the parking area while still blasting out the hydraulic fluid everywhere..and when I shut the tractor off the loader came down and bucket rested on the ground. so I finally found a new seal at a bearing supply shop and replaced it..added fresh hydraulic fluid and started the tractor...now the loader will not raise up off the ground even if I rev the rpms up...the fluid level is fine and we bled all the lines and the loader will only go up a few inches if I move the bucket down which raises the loader up. I don't know what to do..heck I just put a brand new hydraulic pump on the frontend and it was working fine.....any suggestions from anybody would be greatly appreciated ! I live in the boonies and there's no help or repair shops within 75 miles out from where I live.
You will need to straighten the choke wire to make it run smoothly, I love being entertained by looking at videos of old Briggs motors ,I like to see them rebuilt especially the real old ones,I'm from Geelong Victoria Australia which is down south on the eastern side of the country, you did a great job with it,see ya.
Thanks! I’ll try that.
Awesome video man, love old ford tractors
Thanks! Me too.
I feel your frustration, discovering an oil leak in a newly rebuilt engine. Hopefully it will turn out to be a relatively simple fix. I thought your solution for the floor mat was genius. What was the material that you melted onto the mat and where did you source it? Thanks. And Merry Christmas to you and your family!
I bought a plastic “welding” kit, the kind with a gun and little metal joints. Well, it came with lots of sticks of different types of plastic. That one was polypropylene. It worked well. I would do that again.
@@AntiqueCarsandStuff Thanks!
Merry Christmas 2024 from Venezuela! I watched your video very carefully, I was very impressed when I saw an original Willys package engine, later when I saw your truck, I remembered the 1957 Willys Station Wagon that I inherited from my grandfather in 1988 when he died. My grandfather bought it new in Venezuela, it was the luxury version, with lots of chrome and a powerful 6-cylinder 226 Super Hurricane engine, with dynamo and 6-volt electrical system, it was 100% the same as when it left the dealership in 1957, the I really enjoyed it and I traveled half the country with it, it never left me stopped because I was always able to repair small breakdowns. I hope you can enjoy your Jeep with that beautiful new engine, my sincere congratulations! Carlos Valero, Venezuela América del Sur.
Thank you Carlos. Merry Christmas to you too!
Great Job!
Does the water temp probe go where you installed the heater hose?
No, the water temp sending unit goes on top of the head toward the back.
@ interesting. I’ve got a 42 GPW (no heat) and a 49 Jeepster with heat, both water temp probes on the side. I’ll check into that closer after watching your video. Thinking it through, it really shouldn’t matter as the water circulates. You’ve got a beautiful truck! Enjoy it!
Thermostat insures engine at proper temperature also
Yes sir.
Vintage Jeepers has thermostats. They are supposed to have 160 thermostat. Simple fix with some time involved. New oil seal, timing seal, crank to pully seal. You'll have to drop the oil pan.
Very good. Thank you.
Great job on everything buddy😊
Thank you!
Wonderful to watch. A real old school engineer. Thank you.
Thank you very much.
Top job Erik, shame about the oil leak, that would really get to me after all that installation work. Still at least it's hopefully doable in situ 🤞🤞
Thanks Howard. Frustrating for sure, but we’ll get it figured out.
I really appreciate your attention to details! It makes a difference.
Thanks!
you can change that seal with the engine in the truck...you have to pull the timing cover off...when reinstalling the timing cover slip the pulley on before you tighten the timing cover bolts...this will center the timing cover and seal relative to the pulley and lessen the chance of it being off center and leaking again....metalshaper did a quick video on this ruclips.net/video/x7UqaYkWIEE/видео.html ..and it really is a nice tip that lots of us overlook.
Excellent. Thank you.
nice to see these old willys trucks back on the road...i always wanted one...a couple of tricks i learned with my Cj3B...i moved the coil to the firewall and it helps keep it from soaking engine heat and keeps it a bit cooler...that exhaust insulation is a good idea..i insulated all the way back past the brake master cylinder...this stopped it from boiling the fluid when idling a long time in summer...it also helps mitigate vapor lock at the fuel pump..which is a problem with these F and L head engines with modern fuels when the engine gets hot..
I like that coil idea. Thanks.
The engine sounds smooth. Good job.
Merry Christmas buddy.
Cruising Emmett!!!
What color green is that in the engine compartment
I don’t know but I like that deeper green color.
UGH , Great job and good luck . Merry Christmas to you and your family
Thank you, and Merry Christmas to you and your family as well!
On the oil leak, check the sealing surface on the crank shaft, it may have a groove worn in it and the seal can't squeeze tight enough. You would need to install a speedi-sleave on the crank. A 160 deg. thermostat would have been original equipment back then. On all the Jeeps I had, keeping them warm here in New York was harder than keeping them cool.
Thanks for the information. That’s good to know 160 was originally used.
the sealing surface is on the land on the back of the pulley..otherwise, yes there could be a groove...if there is you need to replace the pulley.
Excellent content. That oil leak after all the engine install would have aggravated me.
Yes!
This is wonderful. The long awaited reunion. Again your thoroughness pays off. Can't wait for the final declaration. I'm rootin fer ya.
Thanks! Merry Christmas and happy holidays!
@AntiqueCarsandStuff Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Great video, just the one I’ve been waiting for the Engine rebuild and fitment. The Engine looks superb and is a credit to the builder and then yourself for all the work you’ve done on the ancillaries. I so feel your pain with the oil leak, with a vehicle of this age the oil seal could be a rope one and as such they are a swine to get right first time. Just take your time with the repair and having seen the quality of your previous work I’m confident that you will be successful. Looking forward to seeing the conclusion and then further work gently upgrading/restoring the Willys.
I appreciate the nice words and support as always. Thank you!
only the rear main seal is rope on these engines...they have a 'modern' rubber replacement but from what i have been reading it is inferior..i installed a rope seal on my F-134 CJ3B
Nice fix on the floor mat, it looks great.
Thank you!
Great editing as usual.
I know it’s a year later, it static converters are no good. No, they’re not really adequate. For a drill press, it could be. But you lose one phase with those and one third of the power from the motor. 1/2 horse is already on the just barely enough list. I’m not saying it won’t work, but if you plan to do anything serious with this, you will be disappointed.
Yes, I agree. It should be fine for my light duty stuff.
That tractor feels so happy to be going and mowing again. Thanks for this excellent series of videos. I have two of these tractors, one with a sickle, which after years of sitting around, I now have time to restore. The sheer number of problems you had to overcome means I have much more information I can use.
Yes, she had a lot of issues but came together nicely in the end. Thanks for watching. I’m glad the videos might be of some help!
Jonathan W would be proud of that rig.
What is the part number for that front seal that keeps oil out of the clutch housing compartment?
From djstractorparts.com, part # 70224687.
Have fun and enjoy your trip.
Cool stuff. Enjoy your time at the cabin.
Thank you.
Happy hunting!
Thanks!
That whole log loader is powered by that little Honda. The truck didn't have a PTO.
Thanks.
Used to have a few at old paper mill I worked at
Enjoy your time in the mountains!!
Thank you!
What part of Idaho you in
The gap was to hold oil
That’s great, what are you use to check the RPM? I need to put some headlights on my A like you have. I’ve always wondered what RPM I’m running on my 46 A. These Johnny poppers rev so low compared to my other tractors. It’s like my Ram’s Cummins 😊 compared to a gas truck.
I used a modern timing light that also reads voltage and rpm.
engine sounds good.i have 2 model 92,s would like a twin
Not sure what fast idle is for your tractor, probably around 1275 no load. Spring makes a difference!!😊
