    You are talking about my favorite pen! I’m sort of a newbie with fountain pens but since I discovered Pilots I don’t need to buy any more fountain pens. I have a Pilot Custom 845 and I also have an 823, but the 743 is my favorite. I too hated to pay US prices instead of turning to Japan but I was lucky to find one at less than retail and I was overjoyed to buy it. I am so happy with it! It writes like butter on glass, just to die for. And, like you, I love the color. I don’t really want to use the blue ink that came with it and I am still trying to decide which ink to use. I did buy a bottle of green ink by Pilot, the same one you bought, but I haven’t tried it yet.
    I have to smile at your pleasure when you discovered how wonderfully it writes because I felt the same way. It is the perfect pen! And with a fabulous color too!

    I recently purchased a 743 in black. I chose it over the 823 for ease of cleansing / changing colors and I don’t want to bother with venting the vac on the 823 while writing and remembering to close it back up. This one just seems to be a practical day to day. My pen has a soft medium nib, which had turned out to be a perfect choice for my needs. Also, no complaints. Writes smooth and consistent. It’s one of my best writers. It’s an inspiring pen. Black is fine with me because I appreciate it’s less is more sleek sophisticated and elegant look.

      I wonder how much of a difference there is between the soft medium versus the regular medium. I find Pilot nibs to be soft-leaning already, so I am curious. I love that you love your pen! This model really is one of the best and I can definitely see what you mean by the sophisticated look.

    I just got the Pilot Custom 743 in black with a fine-medium nib. Like you, I had dreamed of the Customr 823, but I really prefer cartridge converter pens over piston fill pens. When I learned the 743 is the same #15 nib with a converter, I was very interested. I knew there were more nib options in Japan, and I wished I could have the nib size between fine and medium; I use 5 mm dot grid notebooks but like to see the ink color. They just released more nib sizes to the U.S. in the black 743 only, so I ordered black . It's the most I've ever spent on one pen. I inked it up hours ago, so nervous I might not like it, and I feel the same way you do: it's perfect! It's ideal! I feel so grateful!!! I really enjoyed your video, thank you.

    It's so much fun to watch your video. I'm a Pilothead because I love how the nib feels on paper. I have small handwriting, so my comfort zone is EF to MF. I only own one M nib which is a tad too juicy for me as a lefty and a Chinese calligraphy custom grind based on a stock B nib in a Decimo. The 743 is plenty long uncapped in my experience. Many happy writing experiences!
    ETA: Pilot is quite tolerant of high writing angles. I see you hold your pen at a similar angle as I do.

    • @StationeryDumpling
      @StationeryDumpling  5 месяцев назад

      Oh, I haven't given much thought to my writing angle! That is interesting. I really like Pilots because they seem to be the most consistent with quality and nib on paper experience.

      @@StationeryDumpling I notice this sensitivity to writing angle most when I bring out my Platinum 3776 SF. That pen needs to rest in the web of my hand to perform decently.

    • @StationeryDumpling
      @StationeryDumpling  5 месяцев назад

      Very interesting. I tend to have to turn my sailor nibs to a certain angle every time to write smoothly. So intriguing how unique the writing experience is for each individual.

    I am glad to see young people get so excited about fountain pens.
    I just got my own grail pen that I have been coveting since the middle '80s so I get your excitement.
    I won't say which one but I'll give a hint: It starts with M and ends with ontblanc 149 :-))
    Congratulations on your treat!
    Enjoy it in good health.

    Don't you remove the size sticker from your fountain pens ?

    • @StationeryDumpling
      @StationeryDumpling  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you!! Lol, I actually have contemplated that when I got my custom 742. My thinking was that if I get another one, then I won't know what the nib is unless I uncap it. But how likely am I to get another pen of the same color? Pretty low chance haha... For now, the stickers don't bother me, but maybe they will one day when I find I don't need them 😅

    Have you thought about strengthening your hands ? Never heard of a pen being too heavy?

    • @snakkomsex
      @snakkomsex 6 месяцев назад +3

      It's a preference thing. She can obviously use and lift an average pen, but some people like lighter and some heavier pens. There is no "right" pen for everyone, but we all have pen qualities that we like or dislike.
      Also: Some people might have loss of strength in their hands because of a disability like rheumatism. In that case strengthening the muscles might be unattainable.

      I nearly gave up on my Pelikan M800 because I was used to lighter pens. And the leap from M2xx/M4xx/M6xx is very noticeable since the first three use plastic piston rods whereas the M8xx and M1xxxx use brass guts. I put my M800 aside for a while. When I picked it up again, it started to grow on me. And now I'm so glad I didn't sell it.
