Thank you for all of your research and for celebrating the genius of Jim Steinman. He must be kept alive in the world's consciousness and introduced to a new generation. It's not totally surprising that a person born 20(?) years after the release of "Bat Out of Hell" would appreciate his music, but it does give me hope for the future. I came here today via RxCKSTxR, who sang some of "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" in one of his voiceover videos. I've been a fan since I was a kid in the '80s-Queen and "Bat" were the only things the entire family could agree upon on many a car ride-but hearing that song in an unexpected context made me thirsty for -blood- more knowledge on Jim Steinman.
Was astounded at story Meat Loaf shared when asked to talk about his relationship with Steinman. Paraphrasing: Steinman called Meat at home late one night in 1975 and said "You gotta come down here and catch this late show." Meat said he wasn't going anywhere this late at night. "You gotta see this guy! He does what we do! His name's Bruce Springsteen." Skipping ahead, that's how Roy Bittan and Max Weinberg came to play on "Bat Out of Hell" and Bittan aided in production other stuff later.
I loved 'Bad for good' such an under rated album, definitely some of his career highlights on there, My dad bought the album on vinyl in '82 when I was 11, I grew up with it as part of my musical journey through life... What a great start My dad loved it so much that all the neighbours were also very familiar with the album... Whether they liked it or not! I still have it now (along with all the Meatloaf on vinyl) and give it a spin a couple of times a year for old times sake, Thanks for the tunes Jim, always a pleasure to hear your work ❤️
Little fact, Jim Steinman got the title ‘ I would do anything for love but I won’t do that ‘ from the Bonnie Tyler song ‘getting so excited’ he added it in as a spoken word to the cover version she was doing and he was producing, obviously loved the line and wanted to turn it into a song 10 years later Pandora’s Box is an amazing album, songs like Original Sin, Safe Sex, My Little Red Book, It’s All Coming Back To Me Now and The Future Just Ain’t What It Use To Be are brilliant and later covered by other artists like Celine Dion, Taylor Dayne and Meatloaf. Pandora’s Box version is the best on all those songs
Awesome! I had heard Getting So Excited and had always been curious about his usage of that line. I really have to get around to listening to that Pandora's Box album, it sounds great!
You said Bat Out of Hell sold around 40 million copies. But the latest figure I heard was 50 million. Note that after 4 decades it still sells about 200 thousand copies every year!
I used to do some occasional work for E.M.I. Records and some conversations with the staff have put some credit into the rumour that re-releases of 'Dark side of the moon' has gone a good way to keeping them going since the 90's, I think its probably a simalar story here, one album re-released 10 times can keep a company afloat for a rather long time! About 1 year after the conversations about 'D.S.O.M' at E.M.I Records they folded and were absorbed into U.M.G and Sony (2012 I think?) I think they must have run out of new, improved bit rates and formats for release or something!
I bet you say that to all the boys. I texted my good friend who I always talk to about music. And I brought up Jim steinman to which he said * he's an insane genius_. It also made me realize that besides writing music for meatloaf I don't know much about him so I hope to learn more by watching this is That breaks my heart seeing your records fall like that. Man that makes me nervous now I'm sitting here wondering if my records are okay lol
Just an update for you, luckily almost all of my records are 100 percent fine, a couple of them have a couple of new scratches on the outer sleeves though. Ever since this happened my new record shelf is bolted to the wall and the records now have protective outer sleeves so I suppose this was a learning opportunity :p
Depending from which source u get the info BOOH has sold between 45000 and 65000 copies It has been in the top 5 of best selling albums of all time for at least the last ten years, Total Eclipse has been a hit single for 5 different artists, Bad for good Did go platinum and Rock an Rol dreams was a top thirty hit in UK along with a few other European countries. So not to much of a flop But then a lot of America only judge on what happens in America. Deadringer a flop No, outside US it went multi platinum everywhere. Anyway enjoyed your tribute Keep on checking him out
Awesome info, thanks for sharing! It's so hard to find accurate sales data from an age when so many sales were under the table. Thanks for sharing this info and thanks for watching!
I don't think you mentioned the bat out of hell musical, which seems was the dream project of his life. I was so glad he saw that project come to be. I have a double CD of the musical which i love so much. I was going to see it live in 2020, and lockdown caused the US tour to be cancelled a couple of weeks before the show. I know it has been back in Vegas and I'm the UK this year.
If you're looking to listen to the cast recordings of "Whistle Down The Wind" I'd recommend doing it around christmas since it's kinda tied to the theme of the story. That's what I did last christmas, it was a fun and cute 3 hours experience. Some of the songs from that play ended up in the "Best Of Meat Loaf" Album, the one with the epic artwork done by Michael Whelan, the same artist who did the artwork of Bat II. It was a fun discovery to see where those songs originated. The whole thing is available on Spotify.
Thanks for that video over the two best epic stars in the world (for me). Do you know any privat things about Jim? Was he married? Does he had children?
Always nice to hear career highlights BUT what about his life? Did Jim have a wife ? Partner? Children ? The stuff that makes us Identify 🫤( or in my case- not identify with Him at all- no biggie, just didnt relate to all his images, and music fantasy “neverland” I will swear that JS was incredibly handsome ,talented, gifted and historically musically worthwhile. Living in now in New England I always catch that “ attitude of frankness, sometimes unkind” in his interviews- ( wonder if he was raised in Connecticut? ) so can somebody tell me who IS ( was ) Jim Steinman … with his leather gloves off 🦇❤️🔥
If you love over the top anthemic piano driven rock and roll power pop, then I'd assume you already know about Andrew W.K. and if not I think you'd love it.
Very in-depth piece. So easy to listen to this guy (Graham Strang.) Written before losing Meat Loaf to Covid.
Why thank you! Yes I did make this before Meat passed, so sad to lose both within the year. :(
Great history and tribute to Jim. He was an incredible talent and will be missed.
Thank you! He absolutely was
I can't believe it he passed away... My god heroe!

Nice dedication piece to Jim, well done young man!
Thanks for watching!
I just found this. Glad to see he wasn't going unnoticed. Musical Genius. Not everyone can do orchestral, rock, opera etc.

Thanks so much! I appreciate it :)
What's it gonna take to get Meat Loaf and/or Steinman in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?
I don't know but you're absolutely right, they deserve it
Tanz der Vampire was my introduction to Jim. Remains my favorite but opened up the endless rabbit hole of all his discography :)
You said Bat Out of Hell sold around 40 million copies. But the latest figure I heard was 50 million. Note that after 4 decades it still sells about 200 thousand copies every year!
Amazing! Such a perennial seller and for good reason! Very high up in the running for greatest album ever made. A masterpiece. Thanks for watching!

Yes Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf should be in the Rock N Roll hall of fame?!
Totally agreed!

I do not understand why Jim Steinman never got an Oscar nomination
I always liked Tonight Is What It Means To Be Young from Streets Of Fire
Wow, I didn't realize he never got nominated, that's just not right! Thanks for watching!
Hey dude enjoyed this dive into steinman, I would recommend listening to Mark Free - long way from love album if your into this kinda stuff! Peace

For sure! Great upbeat party jams
Add a diagonal brace to your shelf.
Good Idea! I should do that
