  • The cross court half smash or stick smash in badminton is a super useful shot to have in your offensive arsenal.
The use of the half smash forces your opponent to move their defensive center forward, which then will give you space for your full smash.
Using these shots as variations will make it extremely difficult for your opponent to get the right defensive position.
In the video, we will take you through how to play the half smash both from the forehand and backhand corner.

You make great content.. it is nice and crisp which makes it easier to learn. Stick smash is one of my favourite shots because you have a lot of control once you master it. I use it a lot when playing in the nationla tournaments and it helps too. Love your videos! Thanks❤😃

the 'stick smash' is enjoying a certain popularity but it is pointless and no one should ever do it. it's pointless because there is no situation where it would not be at least equally effective to half smash either from chinese jump or lcw-style. and the half smash is usually more effective because it allows you to impart forward or reverse slice, which is often very effective at enhancing a slower smash
the reason no one should ever do it is because you are using your rotator cuff as the fulcrum of a braking action to stop the energy of the swing, and your arm and racket have a lot of leverage on the rotator cuff. you can only do that so many times before you stress and begin to tear your rotator cuff, which will never really heal once you've done that. on the other hand, i can full (or half) smash a hundred times in a training session without harming my rotator cuff because i am not using it as a brake. my arm comes to rest against my body and my whole torso is the brake, which causes no injury
you have great training videos and tips on your channel and i encourage anyone who wants to improve their badminton to study your channel. but many people in the sport are uncritically going along with this 'stick' smash idea, and someone has to say something about it

Have you seen many tear their rotator cuff by doing this?🫣😮
Personally never heard of it caused by this shot
Always thank you for being so engagement in our content ☺️

@@Basicfeather the rotator cuff does not usually tear from a single incident in badminton. the usual pattern is a habit that stresses the RC repeatedly until it begins to tear. this is more common in players below the advanced level but you do see it at all levels including among elite players. what i have observed is players who frequently put extreme stress on the RC like the stick smash does, also frequently have shoulder problems. and the biomechanics of the stick smash are brutal on the RC. i also cant say i've never used the stick smash, i have, but only rarely as an instinctive reaction in a desperate situation, like a very good flick serve that has almost gotten away from you. so i am overstaing it a little when i say 'never use it'. what i mean is even if it works it is not pretty, not comfortable or healthy, and for me, i would not practice it or teach it
