First part: I would also like to let you scream longer, unfortunately we have little time left. Of course, we want to spend it with music. I think most of you will know what comes next. It was already legendary here (in Wacken) one or the other time. I have the feeling that you will "put the crown on" this time. (german phrase for: it will be even better). Let`s sing: the bards song!
Second: You are fucking crazy.... Wacken! I dare not say it: You are even more awesome than usual! We had a great time up here. We always liked to come to Wacken. At some point it's time to move on. The time has come now. See you somewhere!
At the end of "Valhalla": Looks cool. Sounds cool. I think Marcus (Marcus Siepen, Guitar) have done enough work. We can bring Frederik (Frederik Ehmke, Drums) into the picture. You'll have to sing a little louder for that. "sing louder" "mega" "the last three" "sing us off the stage"

Thanks for the translation. As a Dutchman I understand German a bit, but as fast as Hansi is talking, I never really got everything. The funny thing: reading you translation in English, I understood/recognized what was being said in German as well.

As you said, this is a display of Blind Guardian and their ability to control the crowd. They know how to end the Valhalla song. In German, he even says as the crowd is singing "last 3 times... from now on." That's why I always recommend Valhalla from the "Imaginations through the looking glass" tour. Blind Guardian lost control of the crowd. It's in their earlier days.... Hansi has long hair... and when you think Blind Guardian ends Valhalla like in Wacken... Hansi sings slower to end the song, cheers, applause and then through the cheers and applause you hear that some in the crowd bring the song back... it spreads, and the crowd takes over control... Hansis surprised look... That moment... Well, legend says that the crowd is still singing to this day.

I think this is akin to a religious experience. Far more genuine than most religious experiences.
The band doesn't ask anything of you, they don't push anything down anyone's throat, they don't manipulate, they neither promise nor threaten, they just make space for you to create together a moment in time that you'll always remember.
The first time I saw this it almost brought me to tears, because as a musician and composer/lyricist myself, I know what it's like when a crowd (no, I never played in front of tens of thousands, but even a few dozen will do it trust me) will sing back to you something which came out of you some time ago in a lonely moment in your room.
Of course, in order for this level of miracle to happen, you have to have a song that 40000 people will want to sing with you.

BLIND GUARDIAN, Power and Speed Metal Titans from Germany 🤘😎🤘!!!
Formed in 1984 in Krefeld, West Germany as "Lucifer's Heritage" by Kürsch (then also bassist). They are often credited as one of the seminal and most influential bands in the power metal and speed metal subgenres.
"The Bard's Song" is basically unofficial Wacken anthem.
And "Valhalla" has such a Crazy energy boost and it has great lyrics that will stuck you instantly !!!
Plus, Hansi has one of those voices that you will recognize instantly.
Superb Reaction my good sir (Again) !!!!!
    NWSU.

Again greetings and love from Germany. Small correction. There were just over 40,000 people. About 80,000. A few will probably not have sung along. Since Wacken is a festival with over 100 bands of different genres, not everyone is that familiar with Blind Guardian. Music has an unearthly power, doesn't it? PEACE ✌ & stay safe, buddy..

Dude, thanks for this reaction! I first heard this song in the early 90 while listening to their music on a walkman in a school bus! Blind Guardian are legend! They created the genre of "Power Metal" in the 80s! Most of their early works are heavily influenced by JRR Tolkien, just like "The Bards Song". They are nothing but Legend!

I have never seen a musical genre that brings different people together as well as metal. Sure, there are gatekeepers but apart from them...At Sweden Rock, a festival with roughly 35000 people, there are seldom any fights and you have everything from lawyers to bikers, all arm in arm singing along. It's a testament to the uniting power of music.

If you don’t know the Bard’s Song by heart, you’re not allowed on the Holy Ground of Wacken 😜 Last year, at the Summer Breeze festival in Germany, the crowd continued to sing Valhalla until the next band came on stage. Germans are crazy. Got to love the german festivals.

Blind Guardian is a unique live experience. Every person in the crowd is there singing along to absolutely everything. The energy is unparalleled amongst anything I've ever seen. I highly recommend everyone here see them if they haven't. It's an experience far bigger than any single songs. The first time I saw them in a small club in Mid-Atlantic USA was the most incredible crowd-band experience of my life. I had no idea what I was getting into, and *no one* has compared before or since.

It’s so epic. Blind guardian are so very special in how they frame their music. Each album is like a tale of its own. Listen to nightfall in middle earth if you get the chance ;) I had the privilege to see them multiple times here in Germany and it’s a sing along every damn time. Like a dream.
Edit: I think it was 80 or 82k people there. And if you listen really close on the festival grounds, you can hear them still singing Valhalla.

I also suggested it before, but I thought you will never do it. Hansi and Sabaton are two artists who can get the crowd doing the whole song. Being in South Africa, I sincerely wished we could get Blind Guardian and Sabaton inter alia here in Mnanzi.

I was there that night in 2016. So here are some (hopefully interesting) random facts:
It was a really cold night in August, around 40° F, I had to get myself a hot coffee after Valhalla ended. That was a first for me in 15 years of attending that festival - usually, I'll get a cold beer at this time. 😅
The Wacken Open Air had about 85000 (paying) visitors (everybody in the surrounding villages gets free tickets, + there are, of course, guest lists). I think 50000 - 55000 attended this show.
As someone else already wrote: the crowd was singing 'Valhalla' until the next band started playing 15 minutes later on the left main stage.
I am not really sure if you got this right: "The Bard's Song (In The Forrest)" and "Valhalla" are two different songs, they don't belong together and are not always played in that order. They belong, however, usually to every live set, just as "Mirror, Mirror" and "Imaginations From The Other Side."
"The Bard's Song" is always at least 50% sung by the audience. I've been to concerts where Hansi only sang 3 or 4 lines.
You can switch off Hansi's microphone anytime during any of their shows, and the crowd will sing along. In fact, at the "Nuclear Blast Festival" in 2007 his microphone didn't work for the first three or four songs they played, but that was no problem for the crowd at all and we were singing so loud that he later said he's wondering if he's needed at live shows after all. 😂
May I suggest another great band and song to react to: "Keeper Of The Seven Keys" (United Alive 2017) by German power metal band "Helloween" (yes, Helloween with an "e"!)
Played live in Madrid, Spain 2017:
    ruclips.net/video/1CqaLqNyFDI/видео.html
(This version features their first vocalist and guitarist Kai Hansen on the red guitar, their second and most famous vocalist, Michael Kiske (bald) and their third vocalist Andi Deris.)

    • @dimitarmitev7176
      @dimitarmitev7176 9 месяцев назад

      I concur. 🤫 😁👍
It was proposed under the other BG video too. He can of course listen to Avantasia's parts where M.Kiske, Kai Hansen and Hansi sing together, or to BG' songs wih Hansen, but there are all only studio recordings w/ adequate quality, so the HELLOWEEN '88 classic from the Pumpkins United Alive tour/album is the best way to show the way the power metal took after Maiden and is still keepengup till today. Because of what Helloween did recently with this reunion, I think they'll soon become the biggest on the whole rock/metal scene...
