Very VERY helpful, I've been trying to find the cone ratio information for awhile now but I couldn't. Thanks again for your time and hard work making these videos!
This is the best video I have came across in a long time I am so glad you put this out I am trying to understand these fish finders. I am a kayaker and I'm going to put one on mine. I know nothing about this stuff. But I am so glad you put this video out I wish there was a place I could find more information about how these fish finders work. And how to operate them. Thank you so much.
I attempted to use a fish finder a few times last summer and without a proper tutorial I was definitely limited to what features and functions I could use. I loved the depth perception. I will be trying to better understand this year. Thanks Jessi!!
Denise Fiorilla ...And hers surgery comment I never saw, or was notified about. Sorry my friend. Girl, I went for years not knowing what I was looking at, where the object was under the boat, how fast I should be moving, what any of the settings meant, but I still had a fish finder in all my boats and kayaks. I finally one day sat down and started watching RUclips videos. I got a pretty good understanding after a couple hundred vids, but I needed it explained to me like I was a little kid and I couldn't find that. Lol
5:31 You mentioned you didnt know what the "COLOR BAR" was. The color bar starts at the top going to the bottom explaining from the Hardest to Softest return. It's the template to tell you the most solid return being the top of the pallet tot the weakest being the bottom return. Also the Jewel of the Nile is the RTS Window that you turn off. If you vertical fish that is worth the full price of the sonar. Drop a jig down beside your transducer and watch it in the RTS (Real Time Sonar) to find the exact depth your jig is at in relation to the fish activity. Happy fishing. Tye in Dallas 👍🏻
Side imaging is my favorite thing so far maybe because i haven't had it to long , I've had down scan and 2d but heck I learn stuff about them all the time , , I like these videos I'm always ready to learn something
Fishin N Stuff ...Sorry I'm just now seeing this comment. I'm having to go through all my vids and comments to reply because I'm not getting notified. Yes, side imaging is also my favorite. It's not as difficult to get a good pic on si as it is on di.
Hey bro that really was a great video I just watched it again you can use sonars for years and still learn stuff because they pack so much on those things
Mike Hallmark ......I heard Lowrance was suppose to come out with something new and improved. I heard that a few weeks ago but haven't heard or seen anything yet(?).
Man I don't know who's hitting the dislike button but keep going with these videos cause I'll be using them when I get my mega one day!!..So don't even look at that dislike button chingao!!!!.. You keep doin what you're doin Carnale!!!
Fishing with Fredo .....HA!! Just a couple days ago on a live feed, we were talking about those that hit the dislike button, but yet don't leave a comment explaining why they didn't like the video. Lol. It seems most RUclips's now expect a few dislike hits. If we don't get them, then we almost feel we didn't do something right to attract the trolls.
Great video, Have my lowrance now for about 2 months (HOOK series with 5 inch display) Like my screen not to be cluttered either! Takes a little fiddling around with to get them dialed in! P.S. your intro and outro are pretty cool!
Temperature graph helps you find a thermocline, color graph helps you determine what type of bottom you have. The more red is a harder bottom, the more bright is a softer bottom.
Thank you for this tutorial. Just bought my first Humminbird Piranha Max DI. Will upgrade one day. Newbie here, tryin’ to learn this sonar/down imaging to locate/catch more fish.
Congrats on the new unit!!! Just don't get discouraged with that DI. It's tricky to get those perfect images on DI. In a couple months I'll more than likely be asking you for some tips and tricks on it. Thanks for taking the time to comment. We really appreciate it.
Enjoy your videos, so helpful. I connected my Helix 7 up to power for inside the house and entered the settings you described. When I went back to it a short while later, I noticed it didn’t retain my settings, any thoughts are what I may have done? God bless.
If I'm thinking right, I think the color Bar tell's you the hardness of things. The top color is the hardest and the bottom color is the softest. I think this changes depending on what color palette you have selected.. Help's you find hard bottom..Not sure if I'm right but thats just what I always thought it was. Maybe someone can confirm this for all of us. Great video thanks..
I'm about to buy a new humminbird unit. I currently have gen 1 helix 9. Please advise on what's best for crappie hunting and price and where to buy. Thanks
You're very welcome. For some reason, I'm getting notified of comments, but when I go to see them in the comments in the video, they aren't showing up. I see that you've left 3 comments, but this is the only one I can see and comment on. So know that I know you've commented and I would comment on each one if I could. Crazy RUclips. Thank you for the comments and for taking the time to watch.
Nice. You know, I never understood that dang color bar either. I’m gonna turn that off. Of course, my new(er) boat has a Lowrance I’m gonna relocate to the bow, and put my Helix at the helm. So I’m gonna have to learn that Lowrance now. Anyway good info here. Thanks!
EatnLunch Fishing I don't understand that bar either lol I figured you did Mark looks like one of those ice fishing graphs and I really don't know how to read those things lol
Fishin N Stuff there is also a real-time vertical flasher bar on some views, which I do understand and use in some situations, but I don’t get the color bar. Unless I’m missing something, it’s wasted space just like he says in the video. Of course, I could be missing something.
EatnLunch Fishing I've seen videos where ppl use it to find fish at 20mph I think that's what is for but I dont understand it lol it would be helpful catfishing though lol
thewoodpost ...I would think it should be. Surface Clutter and jig mode see the only things I didn't mention in this video. I keep my surface clutter between 2-3. But if you're having double echo problems asking with wing depth readings, I find an article that explains how to fix that. If you are having that problem, let me know and I'll try to find that fix for you. And jig mode I keep it off. Thanks for watching and the support if you have subscribed.
You have different color schemes available. I like mine with yellow as the hardest. The color bar will tell you which color scheme you have set up. I like mine on. Some don't.
Khz does not determine area coverage of 1 to 3 or 1 to 1. Cone angle does and can vary from manufacturer or models from the same manufacturer. Radius is the measurement of ratio not circumference.
First of all thank you but other people say the stronger frequency such 200 k is used for less deeper water and the 83 or 70 is for deep water because the cone shape is decreased by depth thus we use less frequency for sharper immage
First, thank you for taking the time to watch my videos and for taking the time to comment. Lower frequency does not give you a shaper image. My way of thinking is, in 2D there really isn't a reason to get a sharp image because you will not be able to distinguish between fish and limbs in the middle of a brush pile. You can if the limbs are far apart, but it's easier and better to use DI for that, not 2D. For me, using 2D makes it easier to stay on target and place my jig where I need it, not by watching my jig on the screen, but by knowing where exactly my target is by using the higher frequency (3 to 1). By using the lower 1 to 1 frequency, especially in deeper depth, then the field of view would be to wide making it harder to know exactly where I'm placing my jig. Hopefully I said that so it makes sense. Lol In one of my other videos I explain frequency and why a higher frequency gives a shaper image, but why a lower frequency is better to use at times when searching for BP with SI. In this 2D video I simply attempt to explain the depth to ratio between the higher and lower frequencies, not which gives a shaper image.
I have to add, 200kh is a low frequency. It's higher that 83kh, but still compared to the 1200kh in DI and SI, it's a very low frequency. But like a said, there are times you would want to use a lower frequency rather than I higher frequency especially when going deeper or farther away. The lower frequency travels further this giving you a better return when looking at or searching for something that's further away.
The screen overlay with boxes is helpful if you take a lot of screenshots. You have the time of day (date is in the properties of the picture) and you have the gps information which can be punched into google maps to see your location at the time of the screenshot. Helpful if you have favorite screenshots or if you use screenshots to help plan your favorite spots. You also have temp, speed etc. The most useless thing ever is the humminbird temp graph. I used to think that it was showing a thermocline. It does not. It is just showing you two temp lines with the actual temperature as the average between the two. Pretty stupid.
hi i always throught 2d 200khz cone beam 20° 3 to 1 ratio was meased by diameter and not circumference . I would like to know which is correct. I enjoy these videos and have learnt from these. Michael
@@CrappieCraze hi. hi how are you ?.thats fine i was confident it was diameter. throught it might confuse others more. i would like a dollar for every mistake i have made. i have learnt quite a bit about helix setup. recently from your videos. i have a helix for 19months and only had 4 fishing trips using it. im really looking forward to my next trip now that i know how to use it better. thankyou Michael
Thank you for watching my friend. Is there a link I can share with my viewers where you can explain in better detail? I haven't had the chance to do much fishing because of medical issues and I've had many questions on finding structure, what structure looks like. What I look for and so on. I'm hoping to get back out as soon as possible to at least do some fishing and also try to answer some of the many asked questions. Along with taking more of my viewers out on the water for a fishing adventure. I do appreciate you taking the time out to point out me using the wrong terminology. It could very easily confuse someone. So thank you. And if I mislead in any of my other vids and you see something that's not right, don't be shy or think I'll get butt hurt if you or anyone correct me. I'll appreciate it. I do this to help people not for popularity or money. I'm just trying to pay it forward. So thank you.
I couldn't watch the whole video because of all the beeping ever time your press a button. If would greatly improve your videos if you could turn that off.
That beeping is music to my ears. Just like the aroma of a 2 cycle boat motor when you first crank it up. There are sounds and aromas that lift one's spirits, and these are two that do it for me. But thank you for your input.
The post is "understanding sonar" yet you don't know what some of the settings are for. How are you supposed to teach me if you don't know what it does? And you didn't really teach me anything. Just went through some of your units settings.
Lol. There's one in every bunch. Lol If you've made a video and uploaded it to RUclips that explains 2D and it will help my viewers, please feel free to put the link to your video in the comment section of this video. I really don't mind. I try to dummy down my explanations so that I would have understood them when I was first starting out using sonar units, so if your still having trouble understanding after watching my videos, then I suggest you take up tennis or golf. Besides, I say many times throughout my videos that I'm not an expert. I'm simply just trying to help those that I can. And I explained a lot more than just a few settings. Blessings to you sir.
If I had I wouldn’t be searching for videos to help me understand what I’m seeing on my unit. I.E. what a school of panfish look like compared to shad. Brush piles. Stuff like that. Not just the settings in your particular unit, which is different than mine. That all I’m saying.
This thing is a champ. Practical and easy to use.
Thank you for doing these videos.and keep them coming. This has been the best one and very helpful in setting up my helix 7.

200khz is 2:1
14° tan x depth x 2
Not all cone angles are the same for 200khz
FYI, it's a "diameter" of 3 feet, not circumference.
Yes, it's been mentioned a couple times. Thank you
