      No special program. The pics are on the xd card. Just remove the card from your unit and place in a card reader and your computer will recognize the pics as jpegs. Video is a different story. Computer will not recognize a recorded video off a unit. There is a way to download a video, but I quit trying to do it. Now I just record straight from the unit screen with a camcorder if I need to show a video I've recorded out on the water.

  • @SK_CrappieCatching
    @SK_CrappieCatching 6 лет назад

    Yes sir, good footage and info...I see you don't use your sharpness but I use mine to help those fish pop... it's not good if I'm lookn for purdy pichers but it really brings those fish out in brush piles.... totally agree there's no set settings for the sensitivity and contrasts....👍👍👍

    • @CrappieCraze
      @CrappieCraze  6 лет назад +1

      I've tried using that sharpness and there's entirely to much going on with it even set on low. I myself do better with it off. Now fishing clear deeper water it might help to have on, but I normally don't fish more than 22' deep. Do you use it in shallow water? Or when do you turn the sharpness on?

    • @SK_CrappieCatching
      @SK_CrappieCatching 6 лет назад

      Crappie Craze I almost always have it in low but do have to run the sensitivity lower than with the sharpness off....I am running tree core birds so that may be the reason it's workn for me....I usually don't fish in over 15' of water...

    • @CrappieCraze
      @CrappieCraze  6 лет назад

      SK's CRAPPIE Catchn Adventures ....Oh, ok! Yes, when I had my core birds I too ran the sharpness in low. I'm running 2 Helix Megas now and there's just WAY to much sensitivity if you try to run the sharpness.

    • @SK_CrappieCatching
      @SK_CrappieCatching 6 лет назад

      Crappie Craze Yes sir....I just haven't found a reason to update just yet....I have a few recordings of my units running that I might post soon.... I've played with a few helix units and there were only a couple color palette's that gave good readings with the sharpness in low.... if Minnkota ever fix their shaft to accept the cord from an external transducer I might upgrade all my electronics then.....

    • @CrappieCraze
      @CrappieCraze  6 лет назад

      SK's CRAPPIE Catchn Adventures ....Yes sir, the transducer cable can be a pain. But there are brackets you can buy that take care of that problem. But they have to be put on just right or the cable can still get pinched when stowing.

I always thought the new mega cheap unit's should be run at the highest frequency. But if that was right then why would you need different frequency at all? Hay thanks I can't tell you how much you have been helping me out the all this graph stuff. Im an older guy and bought a new mega last year and have been struggling with it ever since. Thanks for all the help. Im here to learn. Thanks Again Jess.

    • @CrappieCraze
      @CrappieCraze  6 лет назад

      elmo wanafish ...because sometimes there's to much information on the screen. It can be like having 2D Switchfire on or having the the sharpness on high. But in my side imagining video, which will be next, I will explain the frequencies and why using the 400kHz is better than any of the upper ones in a certain situation, and it has nothing to do with silt or algae. Hint, you can find brush piles easier using the 400 kHz. Great question!

  • @barryd.9426
    @barryd.9426 4 года назад

    Ok - I know this question has been asked several times. When do you throw your marker buoy? I read your response and I get it with one exception. I assume the transducer is on the back of the boat. So when a brush pile comes into view, wouldn't the back of the boat be either on top of what you just saw or just passed over it? Therefore, you would need to throw the marker behind the boat. Correct? Sorry if I'm asking a dumb question. FYI- I run a front steering boat. So I'm sitting 15+ feet in front of my back transducer.. I did learn some things from this video. I just purchased the Helix 7 with GPS and mega down imaging. I'm learning it still. Your video helped that learning. Thank you.

    • @CrappieCraze
      @CrappieCraze  4 года назад

      You are correct. A few variables depend on where you throw the buoy. Speed, size of BP, and in your case, where you're placement is in the boat.
      If the full pile can be seen on the screen, you have gone past it and you need to toss the marker behind the boat. How far back depends on your speed and how far from the edge of the screen the pile is. What I mean by the full pile showing is, as you're looking at the screen and the pile starts coming into view and it comes completely into view, in other words, you can see black between the edge of the pile and the edge of the screen, then that black gap will let you know how far behind you the pile is. (I sure hope I'm not confusing you)
      You, steering from the front will always throw the buoy behind you. How far back depends on the first two variables I mentioned.
      99% of the time, the first buoy I toss is just for reference. I always use my trolling motor transducer to find the exact location of the BP to place a buoy about 5 feet in front of it with my boat facing into the wind. I never place the buoy directly on the BP. Always place it a few feet in front so you can fish all around the edges of the pile as well as directly in it.
      Thank you for asking. And I thank you for letting me know my video has helped a little.

    • @barryd.9426
      @barryd.9426 4 года назад +1

      Crappie Craze - thanks for the reply. No confusion here. Great job explaining it. I’m up a little higher on the learning curve because of your explanation. Thanks for that. Take care.

    I know my lake and I know where the fish are. I know where the creek is and where the structure is. I haven't used sonar in 10 years and I don't have a need for them. Frankly I find them complicated to understand.

    • @CrappieCraze
      @CrappieCraze  4 года назад +1

      Like you, I fished for years without sonar. I also caught fish. Then I decided to buy my first unit. I was clueless and had no idea what to do with it. Id turn it on and look at it, but had no idea what I was looking at. I didn't know how to set it up. Nothing. When I bought this boat and got a 798hd unit, I started watching vids trying to learn. Problem is, I usually walked away more confused than I was before I watched the vid. I just kept plugging away at it and started figuring it out. So with my vids I try to break it down so that I would have understood when I was first starting out. Now I will say, sonar will help you learn your lake faster and better. Without sonar, you are missing tons of structure that would yield you more fish. And if you ever decided to add a little spice to your life and venture out to new waters, sonar would make those experiences a lot more memorable by putting you on fish a lot faster. It just takes a little want too, to learn sonar. But if you'd rather not use it, thats up to you.

    • @midgebarker4022
      @midgebarker4022 4 года назад +1

      @@CrappieCraze thank you for your tips and share of your wisdom. I am open to learn. I will be in the market for a new boat soon. I can't imagine not buying electronics with a new boat. I catch lots of crappie on my lake without electronics. But if I was to venture off my lake, I would be at a tremendous disadvantage.

    • @CrappieCraze
      @CrappieCraze  4 года назад +1

      Yes, as soon as you see the structure appear on the edge of your screen, drop your marker. If you're going 1-2 or even 3 mph, drop it right next to where you're sitting, but any faster, up to 5 mph, toss it right to the back of the boat. Over 5mph toss it well behind the boat, but at that speed, getting a good buoy mark will be very difficult.

    • @CrappieCraze

      On a smaller screen, all you have to do is speed the scroll on your screen up faster than the boat speed. That stretches the pic out so you can see the structure and fish better. • @CrappieCraze
      @CrappieCraze  4 года назад +1

      I say no, it doesn't have to be perfectly level because it will never be perfectly level. You do want to get it as level as possible, but out on the water, it will never be perfectly level. You set it up on land to be level, but that's on land. Once you get your boat on the water, the weight distribution is always changing because you add water to 1 or 2 live wells, you change position while you're in the boat, you go by yourself or take someone with you, and each person you take weighs differently than the last person, the speed you are traveling. All these things and others will change the way the boat sits in the water which will change the angle of the transducer.

    • @CrappieCraze
      @CrappieCraze  4 года назад +3

      If the brush pile is just coming into view on the edge of your screen, then simply drop the buoy next to you. If the full pile can be seen already but is still at the edge of the screen, then toss the buoy directly behind the boat. The further the pile is away from the edge of the screen, the further you'll need to toss the buoy behind the boat. The ideal speed for me when marking a pile with a buoy is 3mph or less. 5mph or faster, then 99 percent of the time you'll need to toss it behind the boat unless it's a huge pile. I hope I haven't confused you and you asked a great question. I know i had a lot of trouble figuring this out myself. Just remember, keep your speed slow and if the full pile isn't seen on the screen, then simply drop the buoy next to you. If you can see the whole pile on screen, then toss the buoy behind the boat. Also, if possible, always have the nose of the boat into the wind. It's so much easier staying on your pile with the wind in your face.
