      Thank you so much for all the kind words. Unfortunately my health took a turn for the worse and I recently had my 5th spinal surgery because of a condition called Ankylosing Spondylitis. They've been trying to find the right combo of meds to slow the progression of the disease down and after 4 years, it seems we've gotten lucky and found the right combo of meds to slow it down. So hopefully in the near future I'll be able to get back out on the water. We do miss fishing so very much.

      Thank you. I just try to make it so I can understand it. When I first started off I was so lost, especially trying to watch videos on RUclips. I would be more confused after watching videos than I was before watching them. Folks making videos forget that most that are starting out don't know the lingo and they take for granted that what they consider common knowledge is not common knowledge to dinnertime who has never messed with this technology. It's like someone who has never seen fire. It's common knowledge to you and I not to stick our hand in the fire, but not to someone who has never dealt with fire. But I'm so very glad I've managed to help you and a few others out with my vids. Thank you for the feedback.

      Well, that's a good question. If you're wanting that perfect detailed image and plan on taking the time out of fishing to get that perfect image, then the Mega is what you want. But if you want to find fish and structure and do more fishing than playing with the unit, then the 12 inch screen would be perfect. My opinion only.

      Fishing with Fredo ...I was talking to Mark last night and I mentioned I had a lag in my Ulterra. He told me to check my batteries, cause he didn't have a lag and I might have a bad battery. He was correct. One of my trolling motor batteries is dead. I didn't think about it cause one battery is a not even a year old and the other is not quite two years old. The two year old battery is the one that's bad. I'm not gonna buy another interstate battery again. Lol....I'm glad I could help ya brother. As much help as I've had, all I'm trying to do is pay it forward. And I'm trying not to complicate it. That was my problem when watching videos on understanding sonar units and reading them, they either didn't tell ya enough, or they complicated it so bad, that at the end, I was sitting there scratching my head more confused than when I started watching the vid. I pray I'm not confusing folks. I'm trying to keep it simple so that I would understand it.

    Very good info....Since I got my Mega last year I have pretty much had the imaging set to mega frequency and usually got it set out 60 ft.I'm gonna try the 455 and 800 frequency and mess with my range now and see how that works.I got a Helix 9 and with my boat going 1 to say 2 mph what would you recommend for my chart speed for imaging,right now I got it set at 2.Thanks for making these videos,they're helping!

    • @CrappieCraze
      @CrappieCraze  6 лет назад

      If you're wanting that Mega detailed image, then match the chart and boat speed. That's for looking at something close up, within 25'-30'. But if you're out looking for structure, then go ahead and crank the chart speed up a couple clicks to stretch the screen out a bit. At 60' you're not going to get a very detailed image. that far out put it at 800kHz or 455kHz. Then when you want to get that detailed image, get close to the structure, set the range to 20'-30', run the mega, slow down and be amazed at the detail. Thank you commenting

    Great job. Just got my 10 Mega and just getting to the install part. But really picking up some good info from you. One question, do you think there is a difference in mounting the SI transducer on the jack plate and or the bottom of the boat. • @CrappieCraze
      @CrappieCraze  6 лет назад

      Protecting that transducer is the key along with getting that great image. As long as nothing is obstructing the sonar, then you have to consider which location will best protect the ducer from damage.

    I'm thinking about getting a Helix 7 Mega SI but if you have a 10" screen I think your unit has twice the output power of what I will have. Does that mean my Mega imaging will have an even shorter range than yours? 25' max already seems pretty limited to be very useful. I'm not sure I should even get Mega if I will have an even shorter range.

    • @CrappieCraze
      @CrappieCraze  2 года назад +1

      No sir. The only difference will be the screen size and how good your eyesight is. The detail will be there, but just a little harder to see on the smaller screen. The 25' distance only refers to the great picture mega gives regardless of screen size. You can still see things way out if you use a lower frequency on a ten" or 7" screen. Even in mega settings you will be able to see further than 25', but it will not be as clear as if you are to use a lower frequency like 800 megahertz or even lower the further out you want to see. It just won't give that precise detail the further out you go.

    • @MrWhiltetail
      @MrWhiltetail 2 года назад

      @@CrappieCraze Thanks for answering my question! Also, it sounds like you are saying an image will be clearer at say 45' with 800 kilohertz than with Mega. Correct?................ And thanks for the GREAT video!

    • @CrappieCraze
      @CrappieCraze  2 года назад +1

      @@MrWhiltetail ... Yes sir. Mega is really only for detailed up close. The further away you want to look, the lower frequency you want to use for the best detail. But up close the highest frequency (mega) will give you the best image with detail. It's just that the high frequency waves are very thin but very rapid and so up close they give you very detailed images. But they lose strength at any distance (they fade out) so the return is not as good as it is with a lower frequency where the lower frequency waves are thicker with more return to show a better image at distance. I hope that's not confusing you(?).

      Bill Dunston ...The "check mark" button is the short cut to change frequencies. I talk about in this video....

      Bill Dunston ...In this video I give all my settings for the mega. They are not written in stone, but it's hire I have mine setup. It also explains how to set the frequencies. Each frequency can be manually set to chirp between frequencies in each level....

    Great video. Thanks. Question not exactly relating to this video, but just got a Solix Mega on the console. Do you know if I put another Solix Mega on the front, could I mount the transducer for the front on the trolling motor? Thinking about running ethernet cable between the two. I'm up front most of the time. Thanks so much. Lots to learn about the Mega and your videos are great. Thanks again.

      William Haberstroh ..... Yes you can put the transducer on the trolling motor. I would definitely get a shield to protect it though.

      One more question ... do you use the Solix or Helix? Do you have trouble with voltage with the Solix? We get low voltage alarms constantly. As soon as you turn something else on (live well or other unit), or even running by itself we get a low voltage alarm, even though it's fully charged (directly to starting battery). New battery, new battery charger. It's a pain.

      William Haberstroh ... Both my units are Helix and yes they will give you low battery alarms. I wouldn't recommend turning the alarm off, but it's set to high. Just lower the settings a bit so it won't be going off all the time on you. But not so low that the alarm doesn't warn you that you're about to drain your battery so low it won't crank your motor.

      I am learning more about SI daily. The more i listen to you, the more sense its making. I have yet to get on the water with the unit yet. Waiting on my mounts to come in.

      Peter Long ...I've had many request to make a video on what structure looks like in different situations on SI. What I look for. How to mark structure once found. Get over the mark and drop a bouy marker and fish it. So I plan on doing vids on add much of all that as I can in the very near future.

    How do u have your transducer installed/set up & leveled?
    Also are u on Facebook

    • @CrappieCraze

      Bill Dunston ...m.facebook.com/jessie.lopez.900
      Transducer is on my transom. Nothing fancy. I just installed it on spring loaded bracket for protection. I leveled it by eye and just adjusted it after being out in the water. On the water I eyed it by going past bridge pillars. Once you go by them and they're pointing straight at the boat, then you have the tilt level right. Took me 3 adjustments to get it the way I wanted it. The side to side level I just leveled to the bottom off the boat and the line left from my old transducer.
      The one on my trolling motor I just leveled it by eye. Not much you can do with it on the trolling motor because the motor well tilt as you give it power and it levels off. I do have a transducer shield on that one though.

    You right sometimes.
    But inside 60 foot you dead wrong.

      Instead of just dropping that l'm wrong, how about you elaborate a bit and explain how/why I'm wrong. I might just agree with you. I don't claim to be an expert and it could also be we are both right. There not just a single way to do any of this. Meaning there's more than one way to be right

    • @CrappieCraze
      @CrappieCraze  4 года назад

      Again, please explain why I'm wrong. I do these videos to help folks and I explain the best way I can. I don't mind anyone contradicting anything in my videos as long a they can explain. Like I always say, my way is not the only way and it may not be the best way for everyone, but it works for me and I'm only trying to help others. Many have left great tips in the comments explaining their way of doing things or pointing out where I misspoke, but they explained instead of just dropping the comment "You're wrong" without any explanation.
