Never heard this, but I LOVE IT! ❤❤❤
Another of my favorites...well hell, I guess they all are! This album was full of great songs. I almost requested "If The Phone Doesn't Ring, It's Me." Love those steel drums - puts you right smack dab in the middle of the islands. I guess that was just one of the many facets of Jimmy's songs that I loved; you'd be dreading Monday (or any day ending in Y, really), working and doing the weekday or weekend grind and you could come home, put on some Buffett and be "spirited away" (literally and figuratively!) to your favorite real or fantasy beach.
This was the song that actually brought me to Buffett. The first Album (Riddles In The Sand) of his I had. Still my favorite.
"It was a pleasure, and a hell of an evening."
Is what the note said.
"African Friend" is where that line originated. That song is definitely worth a reaction.
Yes, one of his best I think. And It's My Job.
The meaning is that the power of the laid back beach vibe had them turn into different people while they were on vacation, away from home. So much so that they were unrecognizable to each other, but there attraction was still strong. They fell in love again, its actually quite on point and touching. This is a huge thread throughout a bunch of his songs. Getting away for a while resets your perspective. Strong message, corny video.
Hi Don,
I'm a new subscriber who wanted to introduce myself.
I'm thrilled to have found your channel as I believe I'm among kindred spirits.
I've watched quite a few reaction/ vocal coach type videos and vloggers.
Your channel is unique. I love your analyzation of the songs.
Being from New York myself, I've dealt with majority of people who don't understand and have stigmatized a genre due to lack of knowledge.
With that being said, I've complied a list of a few songs you may be interested in reviewing/reacting to.
( I know you have many suggestions ) but perhaps you'd enjoy some of these ( if you haven't heard them yet)
I binge watched/listened to your videos yesterday from about 8 am to 8 pm ( no exaggeration. Of course, I stopped to eat , etc.)
You have incredible insight into the genre ( especially for one relatively new to it ) .
Country music and the history of it has been a passion of mine for 20 plus years now.
Here are a few:
Rodney Crowell "California Earthquake"
Randy Travis " I can almost hear her wings"
" He walked on water"
George Strait " Three nails and a cross" ( this is one he cowrote )
Jamey Johnson " Dinosaur"
Trent Tomlinson " One wing in the fire"
Americana
Ray La Montagne " Winter Birds"
the entire Monovision album (vocals, acoustic & electric guitars, harmonica, bass, drums, percussion, keyboards, engineering, production. all by him alone while he was isolating during the pandemic)
Gretchen Peters " On a bus to Saint Cloud"
"The Aviator's song"
(check out her entire catalog)
Ok, I'll stop here and I don't expect you to create videos for any of them but I believe we have similar taste in music and you'll enjoy these .
I promise I won't hog the comment section again. :) 😄
@Tara4Truth291 Welcome to Don's channel, Tara. We are all friendly and kind here. We love to see new faces/names in the comments. You'll see a lot of posts from those of us who check in several times a day for new artists/songs or to remanence about good music from Traditional Country singers/songwriters. Don is a sincere, thoughtful person who manages to hear somethings new in a song some of us grew up on. Again, welcome and I hope you enjoy your journey with us.
@@carolinasbeauty thank you for the welcome ……
I’ve heard your “ name “ mentioned several times in quite a few of the videos .
I’m loving this channel and can feel the love here ..
@@Tara4Truth291 I'm just Phyllis (we have a running joke about some of us having an alias - or a.k.a.) Don gets a kick out of it, like we're under-cover for whatever reason. And the screen name "carolinasbeauty" references the beauty of my home state of NC. I believe you'll fit right in with us here. I can't wait for your first request! Don is super quick about getting his gift requests done - usually by the next day. He will react to Traditional Country, Red Dirt, Bluegrass, Folk, '90's Country and more, with some Bluesy or Country Rock thrown in, too. He's been giving a platform to great Country artists that don't get (enough or any) radio play, which is awesome. Most of the songs requested he's never heard and we usually benefit from his fresh perspective. So happy you're here! Best wishes, Phyllis (a.k.a. carolinasbeauty) 😎
@@carolinasbeauty hi Phyllis , I figured your channel name referred to North Carolina’s beauty . I’m happy to be here and am looking forward to conversing with like minded people .
Hope you have a lovely day !
I think his best song title is "The Weather Is Here, I Wish You Were Beautiful". The title alone shows how good a writer he is.😂
Great Heart is a fun song..
Banana Republics is really good Buffett song!!
Jimmy was a writer first and added music to his short stories.
You missed the point of the song. It's about a couple on vacation and they both hooked up with strangers. And neither one wants to admit it. Until they see the movie and start asking questions
Many of JB's "feel good" songs really AREN'T feel good songs. Margaritaville especially. if you think of it as celebrating drunken revelry, you really haven't listened to it closely.
