His daughter Delaney did a series of videos with him called Songs You Don't Know By Heart, in it Jimmy tells the back story of many of his lesser known songs, this being one, go check it out

  • @ginamarandino6451

Bob Dylan actually came out and said that Jimmy Buffett is one of his favourite song writers

  • @dathorndike4908

"west nashville grand ballroom gown" - gotta cover that classic!

  • @BOOMNERD51

I was there from the beginning, lyrics vastly imp ortant to me. ❤

  • @janetottomeyer9444

This was beautiful. It is all good if Jimmy wrote it, but I think the early ones are more beautiful .

  • @rebeccas79

People who are just discovering the phenomena that is Jimmy Buffet owe themselves to sit down and listen to an entire album that contains the "lesser known" music. I particularly love Beach House on the Moon. But pretty much any of them will educate you quickly. Enjoy his music - that's what he would want. Thanks again for the great reactions to his music. And to your subscribers who are gifting us with these selections.

This came out in 1973 on the White Sport album. Jimmy write it about Kenneth Patchen who had recently passed and Richard Farina.

He Went To Paris, Something So Feminine About A Mandolin, Dallas, Nautical Wheelers, My Head Hurts, and Music for Money are awesome less known ones.

  • @richardyoung6944

False echos is another good one

  • @andywebb7351

He went to Paris. Captain and the kid. False echoes. Lovely Cruse,

  • @ginamarandino6451

Two other storytelling songs of his that I particularly loved are he went to Paris and last mango in paris

  • @sonofabeach71

    Great reaction!

  • @janetottomeyer9444

PLEASE do my favorite of his as a special birthday gift for my 80th birthday coming up this month = The Captain and The Kid. Love your channel.

    Kenneth Patchen

  • @cliffordbarnes1631

Great song about Kenneth Patchen. I read an interview Jimmy did and Ken and one other name that escapes me were the reason for the song.

IN 1894, Mark Twain took a trip around the world on a steam ship, collecting stories and tales of adventure that he later published in his classic work, "Following The Equator". Twain had a real knack in the way that he described his traveling companions and other people he met in a way that was easy to read, using sensory language that allowed me, the reader, to be able to imagine what he saw, heard and experienced during his travels.

It is a fictitious poet. There were 1 or 2 real poets that triggered the idea for the song, but that actual poet in the song is not a real person. Kenneth Patchen was one of them. Richard Farina was the other one. I don't know anything about those 2 poets other than their names. While he was writing the song, Jimmy also was thinking of his early experiences being rejected for his songs and a song he had already written about a guy that leaves his money to his dog.
