- I'm not yet sure what I want to say here. But Jimmy was a profound influence on my life. I wanted to create a tribute and this seemed a fitting song - perhaps one that some fans haven't even heard.
Jimmy Buffett came into my life while on vacation at a beach house in Folly Beach near Charleston, SC in 1985. With the backdrop of the ocean and over a few drinks, we were searching for music to capture the mood. My sister's boyfriend ran out to his car to get a cassette tape from his stereo. It was a mix tape of his favorite JB songs and his latest album, recorded off a friends record albums. We were immediately hooked. He gave me the tape on the condition that I spread Jimmy's music back home. This moment would profoundly influence my lifestyle, my wardrobe, my appreciation of music, my travel destinations... my life, for decades!
A great wave of Jimmy Buffett music propelled me to Key West, countless concerts, amazing Parrothead parties, to be involved with Parrothead Clubs and charities. Jimmy's songs made me pick up a guitar and form a cover band, Migration, in the 90's. His music has been background music for my family gatherings for nearly 40 years. And I still love picking up a guitar and playing his songs.
Cheers to those that are here remembering Jimmy Buffett after his death on 9/1/2023. Best wishes to his family.
If anyone is interested in the original 1985 "mix tape" that turned me on to Buffett, I recreated it as 2 Spotify playlists! And I list the songs below. Now, who could NOT be turned onto his music from this?? Thanks, Roger.

I told Patti about you rocking the Folly Beach bar! That was so much fun!
No worries, Patti. And yes, Folly Beach - my first live performance! And Roger, I'm pretty sure it was you who got me up on stage that night too. I know I didn't volunteer, lol!
