Hi. I did a value analysis the other day and between the coverage (which if you convert to gallon) which is around 650 sq ft and that the finish can last up to 15 years, ECO looked cheaper than standard paints. NOW, my experience is/was that I painted the exterior of a building 8 years ago here in So. Calif. with their oil based Hollandlac (no longer available in CA) and ECO. Hollandlac high gloss and ECO semi gloss. Colors are very lively. I used a very dark brown for trim, a very lively orange for doors and windows, and a taupe for siding. All of the colors have faded pretty much in 8 years but they still look good. Downside is you have to wash these surfaces ONCE a year due to a chalky buildup. When you wipe that dry there is a pigment color transfer to the towel. But then it does look good again. The satin looks like satin but I would say the gloss looks like satin. Protected areas hold up better. Horizontal weather exposed shows it more. I am 400 yards from the Pacific in Laguna Beach, CA.. On the value analysis I compared coverage and time period until a recoat was necessary. Fine Paints of Europe say up to 15 years. That's double standard paints. Coverage is over double standard paints. BUT, although my paint has not failed it does want a recoat after 8 years due to fade and sheen. That's not that much better than standard paints. It does clean up fairly well and maybe I can extend it without a recoat by simple annual washings (which is a lot of work but far less than repainting). Maybe hit heavily exposed areas every 5 years and leave the rest as long as it will go. I am right now preparing to paint my main house and first looked at standard paint (Sherwin Williams). It's $85 gal and covers 250-300 sqft. ECO (converted to gallon) is $243 gal and covers 637 sqft. I took in color sample boards (painted up from old cans of FPE colors which held up fine if they were full) and they were able to match the dark brown and taupe pretty well but warned the dark brown would fade quickly. They tried but could not get close on the orange that I like very much. The taupe is a custom color that I developed the formula on with many colors and paint syringes. I'm also very fond of it and SW came close but just not quite. So... I'm back to thinking I might well use the ECO because of the colors and all things considered it may NOT be more expensive. Sherwin Williams store is 10 minutes away and Fine Paints of Europe retailer is 1 hour 35 minutes away which is a consideration. FPE does ship so maybe that makes sense. On workability I did struggle a bit with ECO. They warn not to apply at temperatures above 80 degrees and not above 80 percent humidity. That can be a fine window. I did have trouble when I finished a wall around 3pm and the dew point was hit that night and the paint ran off in streaks like it had rained. You also have to figure out how to work in manageable sections (probably mostly because I am using Gloss and Satin). On horizontal siding I would run tape below the 3rd 6" row, paint and pull and repeat. Long response but a valuable real life case and view, AND I'm still trying to make my final decision so this helps me figure that out!
I remember the first time I inquired about brushing and rolling this paint. The paint store manager said most complained it wasn’t that good. It sprays great but most paints do. But you are right it’s pretty much bulletproof… unfortunately it’s $175 dollars a euro gallon that’s insane.
Hi Dave! Thanks for this video- I was thinking of trying a Fine Paints of Europe paint in the entryway side walls of a downtown Boston apartment - I wanted a very high gloss almost mirror like surface and thought id try this- what are your thoughts for this entryway wall application? Thanks so much :)
I just ordered water based eco fine paint of Europe on satin to spray my kitchen cabinets and I going to prime with renner 643 . Do you think that primer would work? Thank you
No, no no, I went down the checklist it wasn't the prep. From dust to the sandpaper used it want me, and I'm sure FPE's advice on warming it didn't help. It needed a retardant added butyl cellosolve, nobody told me. But thank you.
Wanna ruin that door cleaning it? Use spray nine. 😂 That stuff ruins everything. I just tried their door kit with the hollandlac. Mixed results. Definitely was hesitant on using the supplied brush but, wanted to play by their rules. It's going in the garbage can! I should have trusted my instincts. China bristle brushes are overrated garbage. Anyway. Good presentation on the latex version. I may push it on someone. Have you used it on walls with any kind of roller application?
Yes, I have rolled all of the products on walls. It is great paint to work with but the old can run 10-15 minutes after its been applied so you have to keep your eye on it.

Thank you for sharing, as I’m a huge fan of Fine Paints of Europe.
You're very welcome! Me too.

Great content!
Do you still have to prime even if the surface has been painted before?

the best practice is to use Fine Paints of Europe primer. They sell paint systems not just paint.
I used it and had huge problems with solvent pop.
thats on you in your prep. Its not the product.

It sets up fast here in Pa.
Yes, lower humidity I guess?
How long does Eco Brilliant paint have to dry on a cabinet door before it should be used and/or hardware reinstalled?
Wait 24 hours to install hardware, but wait 14 days before trying to clean.
