    I love your videos. It is nice to hear so much enthusiasm about cycling and the beautiful landscapes we can ride through. BTW, I ride with a baseball cap and have been doing so for thirty years!

    Ok. That was well presented. No nonsense or BS. I see you like the helmet, it fits good, looks good, and you don’t sweat up in it. That’ll do for me. Thank you.

    It's an awesome helmet and I love your review. My issue with it is personal, it just doesn't fit my huge square head. I need to try the POC you mentioned. Thank you for the review!

      Hi Valiant, I'm not sure what head shape would fit a POC, but for a large head, the Kask Vertigo looks great. I know the Protone looks a little small on large heads, but if like the comfort, look into the Vertigo.

    I'm thinking of a new one too. I've been happy with my Mavic, but new year - new helmet. METs look OK to me. I really like the other Kask offering - Valegro. Something about that shape along the temple looks nice. I just have to find a place to try it on first.

      Hi Patrick, thanks for watching and leaving a comment. I've heard great things about the Mavic and MET's helmets, I looked at POC because of the well documented crash protection, and Kask because of the comfort of my Vertigo, the Protone just met all of my requirements, and it looks cool! The problem with the Protone is in NorCal, it is very popular.

    Looks good Kev. I ride the Giro Vanquish (Team BMC) in the Fall/Winter and the Specialized SWorks Evade II (Bora Hansgrohe) and Specialized Prevail for everyday riding. Best helmet is the Evade II by far. I want to know more about HJC helmets (Lotto Soudal) but you cant buy them in the US.

      xgalvan1 Wow, that is quite the helmet collection, are the colors the same or do you also match to your kit for extra style points? Any chance you'll make it to the Davis ride?

    • @xgalvan1
      @xgalvan1 5 лет назад

      @@RoadBikeCulture in the summer, its white helmets only. In the fall, I do the darker Vanquish since most of my kit is muted. As far as the Davis ride goes, I didn't get selected for Dirty Kanza so I have some more free time to do a cycling trip. I'll let you know as the day approaches. Definitely a bucket list ride for me.

    I have a POC Ventrail Raceday helmet the comfort & fit is fantastic & the three way strap profile under the ear is extremely comfortable, I crashed in one & binned a £275 POC Ventrail Raceday helmet but it saved my life I liked the helmet so much I bought a like for like replacement.

    • @RoadBikeCulture

      Hi Palmer, there is no doubt that the POC perhaps the safest helmet on the market, amazing engineering, but it looks terrible on me. What is the " like for like" replacement? Do they give you a discount after a crash? If so, that is amazing!

    • @palmer3977
      @palmer3977 5 лет назад

      @@RoadBikeCulture No i wish, I contacted POC they did give me a discount of 10% off their own website but I found the replacement a lot cheaper from an online retailer but it still cost me £205 to replace it though.

    You mentioned that you have a problem finding helmets that fits you due to your head shape (or something like that.) I can not find a helmet that fits me; even thought my head circumference is 56 sometimes not even a large helmet fits due to my heads is on the wide side. Do you know how wide is this Protone? is wide shape head your problem as well? Thanks!

    I wear prescription lenses like yourself I noticed you add on cycling glasses are they prescription? Do they make some kind of lenses I can put over my regulars glasses?

    • @RoadBikeCulture
      @RoadBikeCulture  5 лет назад

      Hi, thanks for watching and leaving a comment. I am new to wearing glasses, only about four years, I need them mostly for reading so I don't wear any prescription on my rides, but my friends who really need them tend to wear contacts on rides, I just can't imagine sticking my fingers in my eyes. If you're in the market for prescription cycling glasses I would talk to your optometrist, I know Oakley makes some sports glasses that can fit a prescription lens.

    Sweet helmet! Been thinking of buying the Protone. I noticed it does not come with MIPS. Do you think there's any real benefit to MIPS or just a gimmick?

    • @RoadBikeCulture
      @RoadBikeCulture  5 лет назад +2

      Isaac Lopez, I'm torn about MIPS, its intent seems on point, reduce rotational spin by having a slip plate, but it only works in one kind of impact. Helmets that have none-rounded angles are particularly dangerous in rotational spin, but more rounded helmets, like the Kask protone, naturally decrease rotational spin. I think makers of ”cool” helmets should make integrated rear lights, and like the new specialized helmet, have impact sensors that notify your emergency contacts.

    • @Grunge_Cycling
      @Grunge_Cycling 5 лет назад

      It's gimmick dude. Good helmets like Kask, with or without MIPS, are tested rigorously, and it will save your ass in a crash.

      A helmet period. My $40 Specialized helmet saved my ass for sure. Time for new helmet now.

    My head is small, it measures 54.5cm the size small helmet is 52 to 56 do you recommend I purchase Small or a Medium

    • @ako409
      @ako409 3 года назад

      It depends on your head shape also. If its oval small will be good, but If its more round I think medium is better. My head is 54.5 too but its more round and I think to order Medium size. Hope it helps

      @@RoadBikeCulture Thanks for the info and great review. I've had my eye on the Protone for a while. Currently have the Giro Synthe but with the Large size I need, it still seems a little "mushroom" like. The Protone does seem a bit smaller overall than most helmets. Thanks again!
