I was stuck at 5cm for 13hrs during my first successful vaginal delivery. We did consistent position changes, and my water was broken for the entire labor. My son was large (9lbs 6oz), and likely was not well positioned. I was informed that there was swelling on my cervix and my team and I decided to give IV Benadryl in addition to position changes. Within two hours of the IV Benadryl, I was at a 10 and pushing!

21 months post 35 wk c-section (attempted induction due to fetal pleural effusion, but too many decels and not enough cervical progression, so had to have a C/S). Currently 12 weeks pregnant and sooooo hoping for a VBAC!
So, two VBAC laboring questions for you:
    1) Is it better to labor without an epidural so that you can be more aware of sudden pain if a rupture begins?
    2) In early labor, is it safe to be at home? Should you go to the hospital sooner than if you haven't had a prior c-section?

So I know the focus of this channel is pregnancy, labor, birth, and post-natal, but I was wondering if something like peri-menopause can be discussed here. I just turned 42 and this is something I’m pretty interested in learning more about. I guess it can relate to pregnancy in your 40s if need be

Curious about breastfeeding while pregnant and tandem breastfeeding. Just all the things really. I am currently in the first trimester and still nursing my 15 month old. I have never had children this close together before. Most of my kids have nurses until about 2 and a half years.

Can you do a video on HELLP syndrome? I went into the hospital for an elective induction (after watching your alive trial video) I had no symptoms but had very high blood pressure when I arrived. Meds wouldn’t bring it down. They drew blood for labs when I got there but after 12 hrs or so they drew blood again and I was diagnosed with HELLP syndrome based on those results. Thank the lord I had followed through on an elective induction as I showed no symptoms the whole time (once in labor I showed symptoms like shaking, vomiting, etc but I think that’s normal just being in labor)
I would love to hear you explanation on HELLP and other info you know on have children after have a HELLP syndrome labor.

My baby is measuring 2nd percentile at 28 weeks. She’s doing ok by every other measure and test, so she seems to be healthy but I’m really hoping she grows and that I don’t need an early c section. In your experience, do SGA babies tend to be ok after they’re born? Do they need extra help? How do I mentally and physically prepare for a c section?

Sarah! I need your help! I’m 35+4 with a scheduled 37 week c section due to complete placenta previa. However, the placenta moved and is now a marginal previa! And I t’s posterior. I now have the option for vaginal, which is what I wanted, and I can go past 37 weeks as well. But I haven’t mentally prepared for vaginal at all! I’ve been mentally preparing for surgery! Do you have any tips for how to use the next few weeks to mentally and physically prepare for vaginal birth, just in case that’s an option? 🙏🏽 I wish I had started perineal massage earlier 😅

Absolutely love you and all of the awesome info you share ❤️ Apologies in advance, this is going to be long. I'm 39 weeks +1 day. Doc scheduled an induction for Sunday( I'll be 39+3) due to slightly low amniotic fluid as well as calcium on the placenta and large estimated fetal weight(9 lbs 4oz). Had my membranes swept yesterday to try and encourage labor to come on its own but my cervix is still considered "unfavorable" I'm worried I'll end up having a c-section which is a huge fear for me. I have a history of loss(6 previous pregnancy losses) and this is my first full term pregnancy. So I'm trying to flex and flow as you say, and only control what I can and hopefully end up with a healthy baby regardless of the process. So the real struggle is on top of all that my husband has come down with a cold. I have no alternative support option and am beyond scared of having to go through labor alone. Even if the hospital allows him to be there, how do I make the decision to potentially knowingly expose my newborn daughter to illness, even if it is just the common cold?

I understand that medically it is a contraindication to have a vertical or t scar on your uterus and try for a vbac BUT there is a community of women who have had vbacs with this. It is hard to find a provider (hard enough to find one for normal vbac) but it is possible. Not saying I would recommend it, i also dont have a special scar, but it has been done. Also I love your channel, signing up for vbac and coping with labor class for black friday 😁

Hi I am pregnant with my fourth baby. We have 3 girls and we are having a boy this final time. I had my first naturally and the last 2 have been csections due preeclampsia. Baby #2 was an emergency BP was crazy high and I started to have vision issues. She was born at 35 weeks. Baby #3 was at 37 weeks because of my BP. They said they are happy they did it because I had a window. It was so thin they could see all her hair through it. I am going to be monitored heavily this time around because it’s been less than 2 years but I have a lot anxiety about it. Have you seen many “windows” I have been trying to google and RUclips it but there is nothing really out there.

Do you have any videos about IUGR? I’m 28 weeks and baby is smaller than what she should be (baby #2, first baby was small too but never diagnosed) and now they think baby might be growth restricted. There’s not a ton of information out there on this!

Coffee and questions!!! (sorry is long I needed to give the whole story).
Hi Sarah!! I love your videos and I credit my mostly smooth (accept one complication I'm going to ask about here) fast, 98% unmedicated (started everything with cervidil then I started dilating and my water broke so my body took over), (and as my doula called it) controlled first labor and birth in Feb. of 22' at 41+1, to your work, thank you for all you do! I am currently 13 weeks pregnant with my second (due oct. 23') and I am concerned about hemorrhaging because I did the first time around 2 hours after my 6 hour labor was complete. The only thing my team accredited the problem to was "fast labor" is this true? I did tear and needed stitches but I don't how bad. I really want to be present after this baby is born and hopefully remember the first few hours and days of their life if its possible. Is there anything I can to to lower my chances of hemorrhaging again? I did receive the postpartum pitocin (started it in a drip bag but really wanted my IV's out of may arms because I had blown them out in both arms aka 3 pokes worth of nasty bruises so the nurse finished it off with a shot in my thigh and I hemorrhaged immediately after that happened which ended my with 2 more iv's and nasty bruises plus caused difficulty breastfeeding but saved my life so it was worth the 1.5 months of ugly arms and smelling/tasting saline randomly all the time. Side note I feel/felt bad for the poor nurse because she seems as shocked and traumatized as I was but she responded calmly like a pro and went and got help so props to her for that). I know they are automatically higher because of it happening previously and also because my children will be close in age (11 months almost to the day between my firsts birth and my seconds conception) I just want to do everything I can to protect myself from this scary experience happening again. Again sorry it was so long I like to give lots of info lol, thanks again!!

Edit: I was reading through the progress notes from my hospital stay at my labor actually started at 23:00 making it 5 hours long which at least one of my doctors did label as precipitous. I know some doctors say 4 hours and others say 5. I also discovered that my tear was a 2 degree wit 2 stitches which is significantly better than I was thinking, I think the tear was caused by 2 things the fact that I pushed my daughter out in 26 minutes and also because I was pushing on my back, I originally wanted to do a different position I ended up having the on call OB deliver her because everything happened so fast my midwife didn't have enough time to arrive and the OB preferred to deliver on the back and honestly I just didn't really care anymore at that point I was just like I feel like this baby is coming out right now I don't have the brain to discuss other options I just need to get her out haha, I didn't feel like i had the time to talk about that stuff.

Also, I did watch this video (twice now actually), but it was closer to when it came out and I didn't rewatch until after I commented, so I'm now realizing you do talk a little about precipitous birth, I would love a whole video on this sometime! Although my main question is on the Hemorrhaging, but both are relevant to me, I think.

Missed it by a couple of hours 😫 if by any chance you answer questions from this comment section in your next coffee and questions, I wanted to know more about an irritable uterus. I'm currently 30 weeks pregnant with my second baby (first one was a c-section, might have something to do with it?) and started having braxton hicks at 21 weeks, at 26 weeks I went in the hospital after having contractions every 2-3 minutes for more than an hour and my obgyn told me I had an irritable uterus and should abstain from having sex (it was what started these contractions) though my cervix hadn't changed at all. Since then, I'va been having contractions at least 10 times a day, whether I'm laying, sitting, walking doesn't matter, and they also are slightly painful. I'm scared of the risks especially concerning preterm or early labour, as I was planning on having another c-section...

    @phumlamadondo4523 Год назад

Hi Sarah, I'm so sad I missed this live 😢 hoping you can answer my question.
At 36 week my obgyn broke the news that I have an adroit pelvis and would probably end up with a c-section cause baby was sunnyside up. When I met up with my midwife the same week she advised me to get a doula who specializes in rebozo. We did all kinds of exercises to get baby to turn and to get my pelvis ready for a natural delivery. After 2 days of labour (@39 weeks) I was finally 9 cm and my water broke but baby had passed meconium and was not low enough for me to start pushing, so my OB rushes me in for a c-section. I was very disappointed (baby was healthy tho).
At my 6 week appointment I discussed with the OB what happened, and he said he would have allowed me to labour longer if baby had not passed meconium (that gave me some hope) but he didn't seem keen on a future vbac.
What would you advise a lady who wants a vbac with an android pelvis.

Midwife = NURSE who can actually be your primary OB provider in lieu of an actual MD (or DO).
Doula = Not a medical professional (necessarily -- though Sarah happens to be)... Just took a course.
