  • One of the BEST tips I can give all you pregnant people right now especially (during the Coronavirus pandemic) is to plan to labor at home. It can be super anxiety provoking and ALL the time we are sending (especially first time) mommas home because they go to the hospital too early. You might as well stay home where it’s comfortable and you feel safe and private until your body picks up and decides, “YES! This is labor!” Then, go to the hospital at the right time! You’ll decrease your stay, not risk exposing yourself to germs when you don’t need to, and lessen your chance of a c-section or other medical interventions. You got this!! When in doubt, wait it out! Trust your instincts - use common sense and learn the criteria for when to go to the hospital.
20 Tips for Laboring at Home
    1. Prepare for the Long Haul
    2. IGNORE Contractions till you Can’t Anymore
    3. Distract Yourself!
    4. Set the Mood
    5. Slow Everything Down
    6. Education
    7. Connect with Your Partner
    8. Apply Your TOOLS to Cope!
    9. Find Your Breath
    10. Trust Your Instinct
    11. Move Around
    12. Decrease Stress
    13. Know the Indications to GO to the Hospital
    14. Take Care of Her Basic Needs
    15. Eat & Drink
    16. Hire Virtual Support
    17. Let Go - Release Tension
    18. Be Honest with Yourself About What is Really Happening
    19. Be Patient
    20. Make it a FUN Memory!

First time mom here, I gave birth April 4! 😊 I remember my contractions began April 3 around 5am. I went about my day as normally as I could. I finally went to the hospital April 4 around 5:30am. When my husband and I got there I was already 7cm dilated! I gave birth to our little girl 8:23am with no epidural and a first degree tear. I would want to do the same thing if I end up pregnant again in the future haha. I wish all of the moms out there a safe labor and delivery ❤

He’s still in the hospital and is in and out of awareness. I pray for a miracle that by the time I have our 6th baby he’ll be aware enough for me to get wheeled into his room so he can see her.

First time mom here! I delivered my daughter on March 5th. I was checked at my 38 week appt on the 4th and I was 2cm dilated and 70% effaced.
I woke up with contractions at midnight on the 5th but since I was able to still function and my water didn't break, I went back to bed. I woke up at 2am with stronger contractions that were 5 minutes apart and lasted for a minute. I figured I'd stay awake and start getting everything finished around the house. Around 4am they were 4 minutes apart so I figured I'd take a shower to help relax me. At 530 my contractions were 3 minutes apart and I was starting to stop in my tracks so I figured it was time to wake up my husband and get going. Well we live 40 minutes from our hospital so during the car ride my contractions were close to 2 minutes apart. We were admitted at 7am and I was told i was 8cm dilated and 100% effaced. After a failed epidural and 30 minutes of pushing, our daughter was born vaginally at 11:59am.
Thanks to all of your videos I felt so prepared and relaxed. I'm so happy I labored at home as long as I did and I even re-watched some of your videos before going to the hospital to keep myself from wondering if I was doing something wrong!

I had my first in 2020 and naively didn’t educated myself because I thought… women do it all the time for millennia. Just some pain, right? SO WRONG. My husband freaked out and made me go long before I wanted. I stared out in a bad mood because he wasn’t listening to me. I quickly got tense and overwhelmed.. showed up 4 cm. Labored in tears for 12 hours. Finally got en epidural and labored another 10 hours. Pushed baby for 3 hours literally falling asleep in between pushes, I was so tired. They had to turn my epidural off so I could feel to finally get him out. It was rough. My husband just stood around not knowing what to do didn’t help.
This time!! I’m learning and I see in all these videos all the mistakes we made. Mental state is so important! I excited to try again and feel more in control and aware. Thanks for sharing and helping!

Two weeks ago I had my second child. I was so concerned about going to the hospital with all of this and your videos were very helpful. However, I planned on having an epidural, never even considered not having an epidural! Taking your advice about when to go in and not going in too early I labored at home for the whole day. My water never broke (he was born in the sac) and I wasn’t sure if the contractions were bad enough and at 8 and 6 minutes apart I didn’t think they were close enough to go in, so I never had a clear “time to go” moment. I finally decided it was worth it to go get checked and on the way my contractions sped up to every two minutes. By the time I got there I barely made it to a bed before giving birth and I did NOT get my epidural! All in all it was not as bad as I feared and we did get to leave the next day. Thank you for all of your help, your advice really helped me a lot, but I warn second time moms to be careful how long they wait at home!

    • @Minnazs
      @Minnazs 4 года назад +5

I agree with you completely of course laboring at home is a great idea instead of just running it at first contraction the way so many first time moms do but I think first time moms need ESPECIALLY to keep in mind, the pain is RIDICULOUS (for me I would say unbearable) and going at active labor or around 6-7 cm dilated almost guarantees you won’t get an epidural. That’s fine for some people, but for the ones that do want one, definitely DONT follow this protocol

    • @AmyThrash
      @AmyThrash 3 года назад +10

Similar situation happened to me, but I didn't want an epidural, I just wanted a fast delivery. It happened so fast that after we had the baby a nurse informed my husband that our car was still running at the ER entrance. Fun times 🏥 😅

I hemorrhaged after the birth so thankfully I made it. SOOO be careful of waiting too long. I was able to labour at home for 17 hours, when we went to the hospital I was 7cm. I was bummed when they sent me home when I first went in, knowing what I do know, I would have ended up with more pain relief than I would have wanted, and I was way more comfortable at home doing my own thing.
The midwife that delivered my baby was fantastic though!

Thank you for posting this ❤️ I'm 35 weeks with my second child (attempting a vbac) Tbh I've been terrified with everything going on and really want to have a good experience. I feel like last pregnancy I was so unaware of options and was induced and everything about this pregnancy is different. I'm grateful I found your channel, I want to be confident with my body.

I definitely wish I would have labored at home longer with my first. I went in as soon as my water broke at 10 pm, and I didn't even feel my contractions until the next morning. Definitely could have spent the night in the comfort of my own home. Currently pregnant with #2 and I'll definitely do things differently this time. :)

Hearing how long first time moms typically are in labor is crazy. My birth with my first was 5 hours start to her being born. My OB warned me to go to the hospital very quick with this one if I want any type of pain relief 😂

  • @poochero2292

I guess to wait wouldn't work for me especially at this times. I'm 37 wks pregnant and just came from my doctor. She said I should come to hospital earlier whenever I feel I'm about to give birth because before the hospital will accept me for admission they have to do series of check ups and interviews to make sure I'm not infected with the virus. So I have to comply with the measures the hospital needs before admission.
I'm hoping and praying for safe, fast, normal delivery and a little pain on my "D" day. My hopes and prayers also goes to all soon to be moms out there.

This doesn’t apply to everyone. I wasn’t sure I was in labor at all. I was having what felt like period cramps. My sister told me to go to the hospital. The hospital was 20 minutes away. Luckily I listened to her because I had my baby so fast that the nurse didn’t have time to put on her gloves and she caught my baby with a blanket. 😂 This time around I’m getting induced and will have the chance to enjoy an epidural.

This might sound crazy but I didn’t even know I was in active labor. I went to my 40 week appointment and I was at 7cm and my contractions were less than 2 minutes apart and the dr thought I was crazy! I walked the block to the birthing center like any other day. They kept offering to wheel me over but I felt just fine. The problem is now I’m pregnant with baby #2 and I am worried I won’t know I’m in labor until too late

With my first baby, I had a mild back ache for 2 days and woke up on the 3rd day, thought I peed myself (it was my water) and within 45min my contractions were 5min apart and 1min long...I had zero time to prep at home before going to the hospital. Also, being my first, I wanted to be at the hospital asap (glad i did as baby was having a hard time in there). Hoping baby #2 due in 5 weeks will give me some more warning to stay at home 😅

I’ve been binge watching your channel for the last few weeks! 😍love it.
I would ideally like to labor at home for as long as possible but with my last pregnancy my water broke and my dr told me to come into the hospital. She said there was no rush, I can shower if I wanted to but to come in.
My question is, do I have to go to the hospital if my water breaks/starts leaking?? Or can I stay at home and wait for contractions to come? When I went to the hospital (with the last baby) I still wasn’t having contractions so they induce me- something I want to avoid this round.

I wish I had this for my first. I had stalled labor for 4 days, having contractions every 3-5 minutes for 2 hours and then it stopped. They just kept telling me to take Tylenol. Finally admitted me after day 4 and after 3 hours of pushing, with no midwives checking on me, they found that baby’s head was turned incorrectly. Due in 7 weeks and hoping for a vbac.

Same thing happened to me except that I was induced and labored in bed with no movement for two days with epidural and finally was told to push and midwife and her team didn’t know that something was wrong that baby turned his head on a side and got swollen head. A consultant came in and immediately said that something is wrong and she put a little camera and they saw that. Had a c section. Hoping for a VBAC now due in 8 weeks.

"who feels comforting for you at home..." My cat. 32 wks right now. Because of the country I live in, I don't have a say in what type of labor I get to have. They wanna schedule me up for a C-section, and I don't really have a voice in the matter, which sucks and is just frustrating. Hubby works night shift so I'm kinda nervous I go in to labor before my c-section and nobody at night to help. Did I mention it's my first time. . .
