  • This mod for the TBS Tango 2 is based on the smooth throttle mod I came up with a few years ago for the FrSky Taranis X9D Plus. This modification uses PTFE Teflon tape to achieve a smoother contact between the throttle gimbal and its tensioner bar for those of you that like a tighter throttle stick. The cool thing about this is that you can get a tighter throttle without having to give up smoothness. The FPV radio in this video is a Team Blacksheep Tango 2 Pro. However, the mod of course also works on the standard Tango 2. In fact, it should work with all radios that use the same type of friction bar for the throttle axis.
    The original smooth throttle mod for the FrSky Taranis 9XD+ is here: • How to Make Your Throt...

      Great to hear! Thanks. This is Danny, from my other account. Yeah, mine's been perfect since. It hasn't changed or become sticky like my previous mod for the Taranis using silicone tubing and super lube.

    Dude, this is exactly what I am trying to get fir a feel out if my x9d. The throttle started to get sticky, and my only option was to loosen it up. Now its loose, and you have to be super light on the throttle. Harder to fly consistently low now. I think this is the perfect approch to my issue. Thanks man!

      I need the tempered glass protector. LaffinFPV was recommending the Honey Stick ends to me. I have to try then. But so far, I'm really liking these.

    So far I've been okay just using some clear silicone grease that came with a backpacking water filter. If it starts getting sticky again I might go this route, and maybe add a bit more tension.

    This is great man. I have actually been experimenting with my x9d hall throttle gimbals in a similar fashion. The stick-slip phenomena is the bane of low cost gimbals. The M9 and M9-r have ALL been sticky at the tension I like. I'm currently using a small strip of UHMW tape purchased from amazon. I actually adhere this to the gimbal lobe so it slides against the metal tension plate. The UHMW tape is a bit thicker but super smoooooth. The only downside of the UHMW tape is that you have to leave your throttle at 100% or 0% when storing. Leaving it in a single position for a prolonged period of time will leave a small divot in the UHMW tape. I feel the divot when picking it back up. It does go away after a minute of use but it's a bit annoying. I'm going to give the fiberglass/ptfe tape a go and see if it feels better.

      The silicon tube method with some oil is a great method as well... I use it on my DX9 and it's so smooth👍🏻

      You know? I was flying the stock M9 R Hall gimbal sticks for quite a while and really like them. They look very similar to the stock silver ones (I know. M4 vs M3), but they are actually way sharper and nicer. I never felt the need to change them. However, I did have to change them on the T16 and on this one.

    • @vizjournalist
      @vizjournalist 4 года назад +1

      @@PinchTune I definitely noticed a positive difference after installing the M9-r gimbals. They felt better across the board and I initially didn't need to mod them. The throttle started to stick about a week in unfortunately. I went down a serious rabbit hole looking for solutions... but that's FPV. :-) I'm looking forward to trying fiberglass/ptfe.

    How often you got sensor lost warning with tango2? I got often with it after fly about 600-1km.. Almost never having sensor lost warning with my micro crossfire. Should i just ignore it? Also i got my first telemetry lost when fly high at the mountain just about 800m from me and about 300m altitude..

    • @PinchTune
      @PinchTune  4 года назад

      I've never gotten it on this TX. Are you getting that with multiple quads? There was ONE receiver that used to always get me that warning, but that was flying with a Taranis + CRSF module. Eventually, I decided to replace the receiver since out of 12 or so quads, it was the only one doing that. The issue went away. With the Tango2 I've gotten low-signal warnings a few times when flying at 100mW and dynamic. No failsafes. I need to go back to the same spot and fly on fixed power to see if that's why. I think it might not be ramping up power faster than the sensor picks ups the low LQ. It hasn't been a problem at 250mW + dynamic.

    • @TERBANGFPV
      @TERBANGFPV 4 года назад

      Ill try switching my crsf nano. For doing mid range i always set 250mw and dyn power off because im afraid of the slight drop lq when switching..

    For anyone looking to do this, kapton tape on the plastic and the metal with a little lithium grease in between worked very well for me. Kapton tape made it smooth, but it was sticky until I added the grease. I didn't have silicone grease but that is probably a better option as it is not petroleum-based and will not degrade the plastics (unlike the lithium grease I used).

  • @sveisor2

    What mm pfte shrink tubing would you reccomend if not using the tape?

    • @PinchTune
      @PinchTune  3 года назад

      Hard to say exactly since I never actually ordered the PTFE shrink tubing. This tape method has been working great. But I would guess about 1/4" or 5mm or so, 2:1, would be my guess.

    • @sveisor2

      @@PinchTune Allright man, thanks. I ordered tape and shrink tubing. The throttle is so horrible on this t2, i hope i can get it the same way my x-lite is.

    Great tip, tighten up the edit a little next time, but good stuff keep it up.

    • @PinchTune
      @PinchTune  4 года назад +1

      Yeah, the editing is super sloppy. I haven't worked on a video in a few weeks and had to pump this one out in a hurry. The audio is crap, specially on the bench. The cuts are odd, and the flying I literally pulled out of my @## from some clips I had from the weekend. All in all, I think it turned out well given I edited this in like an hour or two. Haha.

      I'm sure that'll work. I do wonder if it will eventually wear the tape down and cause more friction. But time will tell.

      That's not a bad idea as long as the lanyards metal clip doesn't go dig into the screen.
