Jeff Gordon and Mark Martin did the majority of the wins and their effort was over HALF the schedule! Gordon's 13 wins were unprecedented and Mark's seven wins were his career high. But one victory that trumped them all was Dale Earnhardt's win in the Daytona 500 after 20 years of trying. Nascar's 50th anniversary threw itself a historical party.
The strange thing about Earnhardt's 1998 season is that despite him finally achieving a Daytona 500 victory, it seemed to hang over him for the rest of the year. By the end of the year, he fell to a distant 8th. In a way, it's a less extreme example of Michael Waltrip's 2001 season. Despite his first career win, at the Daytona 500, the rest of the year was abysmal, his stats being: 1 win, 3 top 5's, 3 top 10's and ending up 24th in the standings
I remember S1apSh0es said of this season "Mark Martin decides to have the best season of his career, the trouble is, someone else had exactly the same idea,"
Martin should have been the 1990 champion but Richard Childress' fat yap caused that not to happen. Also Mark flatout blew chunks on the superspeedways while Jeff was much more consistent.
@@badbooking3221 playing Devil's Advocate, based on what he said on his podcast, Mark Martin himself said that he doesn't feel that way, pointing out that there were a few opportunities that he and the team didn't or couldn't take to make up the 46 point loss, meaning that by the end, he lost by just 26 points to Earnhardt

This video is basically just Jeff Gordon and Mark Martin wins, how many times did they finish 1-2? And the races they didn't win one of them seems they finish 2nd

The 1998 Winston Cup season, AKA Jeff Gordon's reign of terror.

Exactly. Not to mention when I think about all the races that Jeff Gordon ALMOST won, including the Clash, All-Star race, Dover 1, and Richmond 2
