      @@juanchoresultay2704 There's absolutely no way it would beat Schindler's List (but I prefer The Joy Luck Club). It was robbed nominations though and would likely win SAG Ensemble if that award existed back then and if the movie was taken seriously. The one Oscar it possibly could have won is supporting actress for Tsai Chin, it's a joke that year how Anna Paquin won it.

      It's actually harder living with a woman who constantly whines that she is not good enough. It's not anyone's job to make you feel good about yourself. Take care of yourself first before starting to complain about everyone around you not cherishing you enough.

      To add to what you said, I interpreted this scene as her paying an ode and giving honor to the sacrifices made by the women before her. Thus, helping her fully realize her worth. That there was no need to diminish herself completely for her husband and his world but that who she was and her story gave her life incredible value. This was a beautiful scene indeed.

    • @merkitten953
      @merkitten953 Год назад +7

      He didnt think she had worth bc she was stoic, he thought she had worth bc she finally stood up for herself, loved and respected herself. Remember when they met? She was sassy. She was confident and held her own with him, and its probably partly why he fell for her. He came from old money and was attractive,, he most likely was used to women throwing themselves at him.
      Then they got married & somewhere along the way she lost herself. It can happen to the best of us. She lost her self worth & sense of who she was, always putting him first even when it hurt her. She didnt love herself anymore, and it showed, and it made HIM start falling out of love with her, hence their problems & his affair - and no the affair wasnt her fault, but it was in paet a consequence of her losing herself.
      Then she gets it back. She remembers who she is. And she TELLS him. She's herself again, and he sees that - the soul he fell in love with has come to the surface again instead of being pushed down deep inside.
      And he's interested, intrigued, touched. He's even a little in awe of her. And he says....
      "I'm listening".

      Its only annoying because you didn't understand the subtle but powerful nuances of what her character represented....
      That storyline in some ways was arguably the most powerful. Her grandmother was wrongfully treated, and grew up in an Era and society with no support to women, genetically this carried on through the lineage because it was never cleared. The daughter avenged her mother by recognizing her worth, but based on anger, pain and a vindication that was rightfully understood but did not heal the pain or liberate the ghost of her mother... it was implied the grandmother came back to "finish" her work of self worth through the granddaughter who resembed the same gentle temperament as her grand mother.
      No one has to force anyone, or even have a traumatic childhood to not understand self worth
      Something as simple as "self sacrifice" as a way of "showing love" can undermine one's self worth.
      So this scene was actually for me one of the most powerful....
