This double album is something special.
I've listened to Visions more times than I can count, even more than Another Light, and Afterthoughts sounds like it's gonna take up my headspace for the next few months. The songs expand on Visions so well, and the finale with "As Long As I Can Dream" felt intense, powerful, and earned.
The music videos are phenomenal, the best they've been for Red Vox. Stunningly psychedelic and visually impressive in every case. You can really feel the sharp boost of visual quality between this and Visions. I had multiple instances where I had to stop and say "wait, how the hell did they do that?" The moments where it shifts back to reality hit especially hard when spliced between a lot of vibrant, bombastic colors and imagery, and overall it's just such a visual treat that I think it's going to inspire me in future works.
Congrats to Vinny, Joe, Mike, and Bill, for creating this album. Same for Chuck Salamone, Jerroid K., and Joe R. for their contributions. And congrats to Eagleinyourmind, GreatZott, GreatSphynx, Red Hat Jessey, Vinny, Jennifer, Alex for pulling out all the stops for the videos.

It could be my bias towards this specific genre but I feel like this is literally their best album, even though Realign is their best work yet.
Something about the vibe of this album goes so hard, and The Sound You Make set it in stone. Phenomenal work from the group, they certainly did their best to deliver a new genre to their brand and it worked with flying colors (pun not intended)
Psychedelic visuals with distant instruments and a play on words and visuals, it’s like the videos and the music were having a battle on poetry

    0:00 Eminence
Eminence, when you think that you're ahead of it
And you needed more than you could get
There's a breakdown of the sentiment
And you feel you've had enough
Get out of the way, get out of your own way
Get out of the way, get out of the way, get out of your own way
Reverence, to the ones who make your life a mess
As you give up your inheritance
There's a shakedown on the precipice
Point the finger, pass the buck
Get out of the way, get out of your own way
Get out of the way, get out of the way, get out of your own way
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    3:43 Playing By The Rules
Well I’ve been playing by the rules, and I just can’t get out of bed
I’ve been saying more than you, but I don’t have any more left
Yeah I'm a sucker and a fool and I'm in way over my head
I’m on a different point of view, but I’m just so out of my depth
Well I can play it kinda cool but I'm just like anyone else
And I'm ok to play the fool If you don't think anything less
I’ve been deflated through and through but I can't have any regrets
Well I've been playing by the rules, but I don’t know who’s keeping check
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    6:37 Almost A Stranger
Is it alright to be myself again
Can I finally be myself again
    I don’t need a reason to find
I'm beginning to feel myself again
    I’m leaving the memory behind
So I can finally be myself again, auf wiedersehen, I’ll see you there some better day
Cards on the table vanity off to the side
Always been able to get myself back to a stride
Time’s an eraser and reverie speaks for itself
Sign your own waiver and you’ll never be somebody else
    You’ll never be somebody else
Is it alright to be myself again
Can I finally be myself again
    I don’t need a reason to find
I'm beginning to feel myself again
    I’m leaving the memory behind
So I can finally be myself again, auf wiedersehen, I’ll see you there some better day
Almost a stranger and even to those that I know
I'm the remainder of memories thrown to the cold
Life is too painful when honesty comes at a price
And lies aren’t fatal unless it's the four letter kind
Unless it's the four letter kind
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    9:53 Jumped The Gun
    Someone jumped the gun
    Someone knew it all along
    Someone jumped the gun
    Someone really fucked it up
Yeah, what a shame, gotta pay the petty tax
Yeah, just the same, you know you've really gotta laugh
    Someone jumped the gun
    Some things better left undone
    Someone jumped the gun
    Someone ruined all the fun
Yeah, who's to say, you never really could get back
Yeah, gotta break, I don't know, maybe I'll be back
    Someone jumped the gun
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    12:40 Traces
Really no time, living on borrowed time
Not until they see what you've been through
Never looked back, never went back
Such a waste of life, but who allowed you, unwound you, threw you to the ground
That now you'd choose to put them down
    (They’ll know who you are)
Never got time, never was given time
    (Why’d you go so far)
This is what becomes of those who break
    (They’ll know who you are)
Never know why, never know peace of mind
    (Why’d you go so far)
Traces of the ones you left around you, rounds used, lives you’ve run aground
The classroom, those who should be out of bounds
Confused, deep wounds, can they heal somehow
Our minds are broken and beat down
    (They’ll know who you are)
Nothing set right, everyone choose a side
    (Why’d you go so far)
The advertising's free, and since they found you, crowned you, said your name aloud
Profound fools will want the same thing now
    (Lives you’ve run aground)
    (Should be out of bounds)
    (Can they heal somehow)
    (Lives you’ve run aground)
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    15:47 Saturnine
How many days has it been now, hard to tell
The sand it stings and beats my brow, beats me down
The cool night wind betrays a sound, just a sound
Oh stars above don't leave me now, how about now
I hear you, I hear the sound
I see you, I see the ground
    I'm falling, I won't go down
    I'm leaving
    The fire's cold
    The days are slow
    The final crumb
    The setting sun
My visions blur the here and now, to be found
My final days, my first few sounds, here and now
    My father, my fallow ground
    The reasons, my mother found
I'm sorry, but not right now
    I'm leaving
    An only son
    The fire's gone
    What's done is done
    The setting sun
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    19:27 Keep It Together
It's time to be extra cautious
A sigh of relief, but don't get thoughtless
I'm getting old and you'll be older too
It’s time to see what you’ve created,
    Resigned to be, nauseated
Sit back for the show, they wanted the real you
It used to be less complicated
When you’re talking to me, is it real or traded
And now I suppose you’ll be going too
    Keep it together
    Gotta keep it together
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    23:10 Forgetter
The sun is up but the sky is gray
    The birds are flying away
They'll pick you up, they'll pull you away
They'll give you more than they take
    When it's too tough
    The time is up
    Forgetter
    Forgetter
Forget, it’ll make you feel better
The same old stuff on the same old day
The light that keeps you awake
And there's no doubt that your troubles will stay
If you don't turn them away
    They'll turn you on
    They'll turn you down
    Forgetter
    Forgetter
Forget, it’ll make you feel better
    It's all so small
    From far enough
    The siren's call
    Forgetter
    Forgetter
Forget, it’ll make you feel better
    How would I find myself
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    26:03 The Sound You Make
Inside you there's a sound that you could make
The right tune can clear a rainy day
It finds you like a dog that lost its way
Reminds you of the one that got away
It's time to look at what we celebrate
The trite fools who would throw it all away
The ones who give some meaning to their pain
Remind you everything will be ok
    Thinking about the rain
I’ve been thinking about the rain
The time you give to something you can't fake
Defines you and the feelings you relate
It grounds you to a world that you create
Without you, everything's a bit more gray
I’ve been thinking about the rain
I’ve been thinking about the rain
Without you there's a price that we all pay
    The sound you
    You make
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
29:52 As Long As I Can Dream
    In the morning air
    At the window, yeah
    In the morning
    At the window
These dreams, like a scene from your old life
Through a cold and distant light
    There's a place, but there's no time
These dreams, take apart your shallow mind
In a way you can't define
Like a bullet from the sky
I know, I know, I know you can never get it back
So don't be late and take another crack
I won't complain as long as I can dream
These dreams, when you live a double life
And the stakes are just too high
    Grenadine and shepherd's pie
These dreams, they can really change your life
Are you ready for the dive
Through the shallows and the cries
Of those who chose to put it on their back
The highs, the lows that make so many crack
And so it goes, as long as I can dream
As long as I can dream

    @ThePuffGD Год назад +3

Red Vox lyrics have always been vague and mysterious, and it's part of what draws me in. Lots of my favorite bands do it and they all do it really well, Red Vox being no exception. This album is the same. The lyrics are very abstract in that lovely Red Vox way, but something about this album just feels very... raw? Real. Personal. Even moreso than their past few big releases. There's a lot of emotion in these lyrics, and while it's not too clear what the songs are about exactly, something about the intention behind the words used stands out and makes the songs lyrics feel very genuine. And that's not even to mention the rest of the music, which compliments all of it through the use of beautifully melodic chord progressions and lead guitar lines, complimentary bass lines, unique synth sounds and melodies, some of Vinny's best vocals in his career, and carefully dynamic drums, all in front of heavy reverb and delays that craft a soundscape that draws you in and immerses you in the vibe. The combination of everything together is truly mesmerizing, and the sincerity in the lyrics this time around makes this their most beautifully emotional album yet.
This is it. This is this bands best songwriting to date, and by quite a bit. This is the Red Vox sound, and it's outstanding.
To anyone reading, this album is to be cherished. Keep it close to your heart, because that's where it should be.

For me, this album so far feels like a transition to uncertainty. Visions came out at a time where I felt like I was healing from some bad times, but this one came out right as things started feeling weird in my life.
I’m doing a lot of new stuff and I’m thinking a lot about my future. And I’m similarly unsure how to feel about this album still. It’s good, but I’m not sure how much I love the songs on here yet. And hey, I think that’ll make it more interesting cause many of their albums were like that.
For now, it’s just good to have more music to keep me company in this calm yet bumpy ride that is my life.

What a fantastic album. This feels like the culmination of all previous albums, different but with the DNA of each of them, I even got some "Kerosene" vibes (extremely underrated album imo). Vinny seems to explore new fascets of his vocal range with each new album and this is no different. I just loved this album, Red Vox has meant a lot to me since i got into it back in 2017 or so and I wish you guys nothing but the best. Thanks for the music!

The band has completely outdone themselves on this album. Stranded was my all time favorite out of anything Red Vox has released until now because Afterthoughts is just so good. Vinny, Mike, Joe, and Bill give yourselves pats on the back!! As well as Eagleinyourmind, Zott, Sphinx, Chuck, and Red hat Jesse!

One thing I'd say is I respect the amount of restraint you have with songwriting. Some of these songs I wish would go on for much longer, but that only adds to the experience. The visuals really amplify everything as well. Vin has such a distinct voice and it's weird having watched his videos for so long, I can't not hear the same dude playing weird games. Love the lush instrumentals, and how you can go from the snappy bright playing by the rules to something like traces with it's huge reverby soubd

The whole thing is great, this might be my favorite since Another Light, it offers a lot of different themes and emotions but they all blend together into one cohesive unit.
However, there is a standout, I LOVE Traces. Really excellent writing, it feels like a motion, chasing behind the traces that are left. Really love it.
Traces of the ones you left around you, rounds used, lives you’ve run aground.
The classroom, those who should be out of bounds.
Confused, deep wounds, can they heal somehow.
Our minds are broken and beat down.

Love this! One thing I've noticed is that the guitars in Saturnine seem to feel a lot like those in the soundtrack of Rimworld, which is an interesting resemblance! Guessing it's just a coincidence, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're tuned in the same way or something like that.
Edit: Might also be because some of the lyrics are slightly evocative of that same aesthetic Rimworld often has, though there's some other lyrics that remind me of other things (such as "The fire's gone")
